Hedgehogs have super-powers

So, I was playing '06 and asking myself why silver is able to do Chaos-control, which alwayse confused me, and I came up with this theory: The Hedgehog species seems to have a conection to Chaos energy. It would explain alot of things like how all hedgehogs seem to have super-powers(Sonic's super-speed, Silver's psychic powers, and Amy can summon hammers, as well as turn invisible in '06). It would also explain why Gerald decided to create Shadow in the image of a Hedgehog, and it explains how practicaly all hedgehogs can use Chaos Control, or go Super. If Sega were to use this idea it could lead to alot of different plots for games, like investigating the secrets of Sonic's past and species, or having Amy get a super form. So what do you all think?

Any Sonic character interactions that you would like to see?

So apparently the Sonic "fanbase" has been complaining about the large cast of Sonic characters for quite some time now. But what I believe a major problem with all these characters isn't necessarily their presence in the games but their lack of socializing with the rest of the cast. Look at Sonic Adventure 2, throughout that entire game we never actually see Tails, a character that's been a main character in the series since 1992, ever meet Shadow, the big new character. Then in Sonic Hereos we are given four teams to play as, however despite whichever team you choose to play as there is always one team that you do not cross paths with (besides the final story where everyone mommentarily bands together). And of course last but not least.....actually maybe I should say last and least, Sonic 2006. (Alright, I actually like Sonic 06 but that doesn't mean I don't like to make a joke about it every now and then ) We are given 3 main heroes to play as, and six <del class='bbc'>unnecessary</del> amigo characters to play as. Throughout the entire game, hardly any of the amigo characters even speak to any of the other characters in the game. And don't even get me started on Blaze, Sega handle her so horribly they could have called her Ms. Unsociable. Blaze did not speak to anyone in the game besides Silver, she was nothing but his side kick and was greatly brought down from her Sonic Rush counterpart. Maybe Sega didn't want her to socialize with anyone in order to show her shy characteristic, but still, I found Blaze's character to be really disappointing in that game. And please do not get me started on Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games. (Well that game had no story, so I guess I can't really complain there)

Now alot of you may think that Black Knight was a bad game(heck, even I do, and I enjoyed 06) but the one thing that I believe Black Knight did right was making Shadow, Blaze, and Knuckles a team and pitting them against Sonic(Even though they were just cosplaying as fairy tale characters). I thought it was so cool seeing them working as a team while trying to stop you from defeating the Black Knight, Shadow being the strongest of the three, Kuckles with his dual weapons to compliment the fact he's a fighter, and Blaze being the smartest out of the three. Personally, I believe that character interaction for any video game for that matter is far more important than the story. Whenever I play my other loved video game series, Kingdom Hearts, I am always frozen in amazment when I see silly Disney characters like Donald and Goofy, interacting with serious Final Fantasy characters like Leon and Sephiroth.

Well anyway, I just wanted to know if there are any character interactions yet to be seen that you would like in future games. Or any character interactions that have already been seen that you would like to see more of. Personally I would love to see a future Shadow, Blaze, Silver, and Omega team up together in the Sonic 06 Universe(but I doubt that will ever happen considerring how many people hated 06 ). I also like to see more conflicts between Eggman and Eggman Nega. Also I would love to see Big and Charmy annoy Shadow out of his mind. Well those are my thoughts, how about yours?

Sonic 2006 Next Gen or Sonic Unleashed

Okay. I deicded to officially get back into the downfall that is Sonic. YYYAAAAAAYYY! I have a PS3, PS2, Wii, and other systems that don't apply to this topic. I don't have a 360 though.

Well, let's flashback to 2007. I was playing Sonic 2006 Next Gen for my friend's 360, and thought it was a decent game despite it's horrible reviews. I only played it for a half hour to an hour though. The songs for it are awesome like "His World" the remix of "All Hail Shadow" and of course, "Dreams of an Absolution."

Then in 2009 came Sonic Unleashed. I loved the song "Endless Possiblities," and I downloaded it on my mp3 player (RIP my old mp3 player). I think I still have it on my music match jukebox program though. The whole warewolf concept seemed so cool, a pic of it was my desktop background for a while. Sadly, I NEVER played the game. Chip seems adorable I must add.

So here's the deal, if I buy Sonic Next Gen 2006, it'll be for the PS3 cause I don't own a 360. If I buy Sonic Unleashed, it'll be for the PS3. Why? Because I heard the Wii/PS2 version sucked (no offence Wii/PS2 lovers, this is just what I heard).

I seem to be a sucker for really bad games (in other words, I always end up LOVING them), so I will tend to like both no matter what I buy, but seriosuly, which one is better? Just getting reccomdations from the good people at SSMB.

For the record, I don't care if I get banned from this forum for this horrible post. I just really like badly made games. *shrug* I know this post isn't educated enough. That's why I made this post. Oh well.

EDIT: By the way, I won't be able to get back online until Monday, so I will check back on Monday for posts. Thanks for reading.

What order did you play/ get the classics in?

Well, I was discussing this with someone a few weeks ago, but after playing Classic Collection yesterday and today, I thought now as good a time as any to ask; what order did you actually play all the main classic games in? Not everyone here was even around when Sonic 1 came out, and even those of us who were didn't necessarily get into Sonic immediately.

Me, I became a Sonic fan in summer '94, and as such by then there were already quite a few games floating around. First one I ever played was Sonic 2 over at my cousins, which I then played quite a lot when over at friends. My best friend at the time then got Sonic & Knuckles, making that the second one I played. A year or so later, I played Sonic 1 at another friends' house, before borrowing it from them for a bit. I didn't actually get to play Sonic 3 until I actually got the game, in around '97.

In terms of the order I actually got them in (as opposed to just playing), I got my Mega Drive for my 10th birthday (had a Master System up to that point) along with Sonic & Knuckles. Then around a year later I picked up Sonic 3 second-hand. I didn't actually own my own copies of Sonics 1 and 2 until another year or so after that, when my local used games store was selling off Mega Drive games at 2 for £10, where I picked them both up at the same time.

It's funny, but thinking back on it, almost all my Mega Drive games (and even my Mega Drive itself) were second-hand, back in the day. D: I think Sonic 3D was the first Sonic game I ever got brand new.

So yes, to summarise- for me...

Played: Sonic 2 > Sonic & Knuckles > Sonic 1 > Sonic 3

Owned: Sonic & Knuckles > Sonic 3 > Sonic 1 & 2

So, what about everyone else? Were you into Sonic early enough to play/ get them all in order?

Why is Sonic 3 & Knuckles so awesome?

Recently, I haven't played Sonic at all. Then one day I decided to boot up Sonic Mega Collection, and I chose to play Sonic 3 & Knuckles. As soon as I started playing, I started remembering how awesome that game is. I pre-ordered Sonic Classic Collection, and the only game I play on it is Sonic 3 & Knuckles. I can't even explain how awesome the game is, it's just too awesome for words to comprehend. The only thing I don't like about the game is the title screen saying, "& KNUCKLES". I wish with the whole lock-on thing, they just put, "SONIC 3: Complete Version". I was a member of the old SSMB, and after playing S3&K, I'm suddenly obsessed with it, and that's what got me to re-join.

Does anyone else besides me think that the full version of Sonic 3 (AKA Sonic 3 & Knuckles) is the best Sonic game of all time? I still don't know why I think it's really awesome.

Sonic 2: Two Soundtracks, One Winner!

In an age of pixels and bleeps, a time of SEGA and Nintendo, and an era where one could describe something as "rad" or "hip" without the slightest hint of mockery or sarcasm, Sonic the Hedgehog reigned supreme as the ultimate videogame icon on the block (sorry, Mario; we all know it's true). His psychotic speed and platforming prowess earned him a superb reputation amongst virtually all non-Nintendo gamers, and the excellent quality of his games' soundtracks further showcased the blue blur's indisputable brilliance. Little did people know, however, that the 8-Bit versions of Sonic's first two titles had almost completely different soundtracks to their MegaDrive counterparts - so, without further ado, allow me to present to you a short comparison of the two different iterations of Sonic 2's music! Which will come out on top? Read on to find out!

-~-

Sonic 2 OST: 8-Bit Vs. 16-Bit

Undoubtedly, the main problem with the soundtrack to the 8-Bit iteration of Sonic 2 is the boredom factor; there just seems to be a distinct lack of any kind of excitement or variation throughout the whole thing, and it almost sounds like a lethargic and dull version of Sonic Chaos’ superb music. Hell, it even uses similar note sequences to its successor, although they were far more polished and improved in the latter game than they were in Sonic 2. Save for some points of Underground Zone (the intro was rather repetitive and dull) and the Boss theme (Master System version only), the entire OST was generally monotonous, uncreative and uninspiring; a huge disappointment for all who were expecting a stunning follow-up to the first game’s awesome soundtrack.

The MegaDrive version‘s musical score, on the other hand, is a marvellous concoction consisting of nothing but purely excellent electro and synth-pop, played out on the astonishingly outstanding YM2612 synthesizer chip. Masato Nakamura really outdid himself with the likes of Chemical Plant Zone and Emerald Hill Zone; making excellent use of the vip-vip-vow synth sounds of the MegaDrive and conveying shockingly good melodies and basslines, they both shine out from all the other tunes as the absolute finest pieces of music on the game, and completely blow the 8-Bit version’s soundtrack out of the water and into orbit. Additionally, catchy classics such as Aquatic Ruins Zone and Metropolis Zone will be lodged into your brain for years; you’ll doubtlessly find yourself involuntarily humming them in public toilets for all the world to hear!

Best Soundtrack: 16-Bit Version
Favourite 16-Bit tune: Chemical Plant Zone
Favourite 8-Bit tune: Boss Theme (Master System Version)

-~-

So, what do you think? Do you prefer the shameless collection of incoherent bleeps, or the synth-ridden and frequency-modulated masterpiece?

The short little comic strips are laugh out loud funny and really really clever, kinda reminds me of AoSTH's writing in a way.
Questions about SEGA All Stars Achievments.

Heya guys, I've heard of this kind kind of thing happening on other games on the 360 from a friend of mine, and was wondering if anyone here could help me out.

Basically, on SEGA All Stars Racing there's an achievment known as "Ghost Master" which you get for beating a staff ghost on every time trial course. The game also has a menu for monitor your progress on each individual achievment, so I know for a fact that I've done this on all 24 of the courses.

Yet...it isn't giving me the achievment :S Has anyone else had this happen to them and/or know a way to fix it?

Also in case I have to restart it on a new save, I need to know, do you get the "Ultimate Collection" achievment for having all of the achievments in the game achievment tracker or the gamercard? I need to know as 3 of the secret ones aren't appearing as unlocked on the in game one. If it's the gamercard I can make a new save and beat all the tracks again.

Thanks in advance guys.

Any gimmicks that you would actually like to see the Sonic franchise attempt?

So for the past few years the Sonic franchise has had many gimmicks that fans for the most part didn't like very much. Sonic CD had timetravel. Kuckles Chaotix, Sonic Heroes, and Sonic Advance 3 all had a team work gimmick. The Sonic Adventures had hub worlds, Choa Gardens, treasure hunting and fishing (well fishing was only in the first game for Big). Sonic Rush Adventure had the whole travelling across the ocean in different vehicles such as jetskies. Shadow the Hedgehog used weapons and vehicles. Sonic 06 had vehicles returen for Shadow's gameplay and more hub worlds. Sonic Unleashed had the Werehog, and even more hub worlds. And Sonic and the Black Knight introduced swordplay. Well those are all the gimmicks I can come across the top of my head. Anyway, as of late, many Sonic fans have become very annoyed with these gimmicks in Sonic games and would just wish that Sonic games would just stick with simple Sonic platforming. Many people even believe that Sonic Unleashed could have been a masterpiece if it weren't for the Werehog and Hub Worlds gimmick. Luckily Sega has Sonic 4 is in production and aims to take the Sonic franchise back to this style of gaming. However, Sega said them selves that their not planning to stop producing their games on consoles which means that we'll probably see another Sonic game using another gimmick of some sort. So if Sega were to announce a new Sonic game along with a new unannouced "twist" on gameplay, what would you like to see that can work well with Sonic's kind of game play? I personally actually liked the time travel gimmick in Sonic CD, the ability to travel to time and explore 4 different versions of each level and attempt to make a good future really added some replay value to the game. Another gimmick I would like to see return are chao gardens, if Sega were to expand chao gardens and give chao more abilities, features methods of customizing them and be able to comete or trade them online would be pretty amazing. Well anyway, are there any gimmicks in the Sonic franchise that you actually liked and believe is underrated or do you have any entirely new gimmicks that you would like to see experimented with the Sonic franchise?
