I don't understand how people who have gone to school for their entire lives continue to put superfluous apostrophes in plural (but not possessive) words.

An example would be this:
"I went to three store's today."
In this sentence, "stores" should not have an apostrophe. I see people do this online all the time though, and it kind of grates on my nerves because it's such a basic concept.

To address the OP, it is very annoying. Seems like the internet sucks away people's intelligence. Fortunately, I've retained most of mine.
