Well since there doesn't seem to be one. This is the Mario Kart topic.
And now I'll say something's on the newest game. Mario Kart 7.

Mario Kart 7/3DS is an upcoming racing video game for the Nintendo 3DS. The game is being developed and published by Nintendo, slated for release in December 2011.
Similar to other games in the Mario Kart series, it incorporates various characters from theMario games racing with one another on Mario game-themed tracks. New additions to the game include hang-gliding attachments for karts and the ability to drive underwater.
While carrying on from the traditional Mario Kart gameplay, Mario Kart 7/3DS introduces some new gameplay features. One of these includes a hang glider attachment which allows players to drive off ramps and fly through the air in order to clear across obstacles or take alternate paths throughout the course. Driving underwater adds a propeller to the kart, offering a different style of handling. Another new feature is the ability to customize a character's kart, such as changing its tires which effects its handling on certain surfaces. Coins make a return from some of the previous entries in the series, which will allow players to increase their speed or strengthen defenses against attacks.

Lol it's MARIO Kart. People are gonna buy the game just because it's MARIO Kart.

On a side note, here's a vid from gamescon. The person playing says the fps runs great, and the game's levels are better then ever, and the graphics are amazing.

I really wish that these games had the option for a SSB-style item switch, so you could choose specifically what items you do and don't want in races.

By which I mean LET ME TURN OFF THE BLUE SHELL.

Other than that, the gliders and water vehicles look cool, as well as kart customization.

My interest in 7 directly correlates to which end of the "Nintendo Bullshit Scale" it takes. From what I've seen, the pendulum is swinging between DS and Wii rather than pegging itself near DS like it should, and that makes me far too ambivalent to commit to it.

You guys say that now, but trust me, when you're in first place, then somehow a red shell and a bomb sends you back to last place, the blue shell and Bullet bills are godsends.

Or I could just drive better than the people in front of me. Or, even better, I can hold onto something while I'm in front so the red shell doesn't hit me.

The blue shell has been complete bullshit ever since they changed how it worked after 64. Especially once Nintendo started handing them out like candy on Halloween to anyone farther back than 4th.

Yeah, there are shells/bombs for taking back first. No need for an item that most of the time is given to people in the back, in which case it doesn't help them and punishes the person in 1st for being good at the game.

From what I saw from Gamescom videos, it looks great. I'm getting it for sure, as I do with all Mario Kart games, and look forward to playing it online with the people from SSMB and Retro.

Really can't wait for 7, hopefully it'll be more in line with MKDS (i.e - best Mario Kart EVER amirite?).

As everyone knows, Mario Kart Wii is absolutely shit. I'm just throwing that out there because I have nothing but pure disappointment for that game.

I'm not getting another Mario Kart game until they abolish the blue shell entirely or relegate it back to MK64 status.

Though more importantly, I consider MKDS to be the (otherwise) definitive Mario Kart game so I really have no desire to buy another title in the meantime.

Let it be known that MK 7 uses the same mini-turbo system as MK Wii. Despite MK Wii's flaws, that's something I liked about it.

It has frikkin' Koopa Troopa in it, of course I'm getting it!

My favorite is still Super Circuit. All of the shortcuts are amazing to pull off; also because Spiky Shells work like their 64 brethren. I also miss being able to lay Red Shells. The only thing the game was missing was Koopa.

Kidding. Anyways, I'm super pumped for MK7 and I don't know why people hate the Blue Shell that much. I usually only see 1 or 2 Blue Shells in 1 race out of 3. Most of the time the only reason why I get hit is because of Red Shells and Bullet Bills, and MKWii has some of the best driving mechanics in the series. At least to me it does.

It's cool how each racer has their own stats in MKWii but I'd like to actually be able to SEE them in MK7 if they keep that feature.

My main problem with the series these days. Hopefully they fix that so I can go back to fully enjoying this series.

I'd honestly prefer to be hit with a blue shell and have some competition added to the race rather than be miles ahead of all the other racers, bored to tears because it's too easy. (I'm looking at you, All Stars Racing!)

Also, what's with the title? When did Nintendo start numbering Mario Karts?

I love Mario Kart and I don't have an issue with any of the items really, it wouldn't be the same without them and it gives people in last places a chance of moving up the ranks. Not everyone is good at Mario Kart and has the time to play it a lot to get good. I like playing it with my friends, many of who don't own modern consoles or play many games. It's about having fun and it's a competition! How boring would it be to just win all the time?
