Nintendo UK reveals new Generations 3DS screens and details

Nintendo UK has put up a product page for the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic Generations, which contains 3 new screenshots of the game’s Casino Night Zone and Mushroom Hill Zone stages. The page also reveals that the game will support the Play Coins feature of the 3DS to unlock ‘new challenges, and says that using the 3DS’ StreetPass feature will allow you to receive new unlockable content including new missions when you interact with other players. The game’s Versus Mode is said to feature a status points system, which sounds similar to the one used in Sonic Rush Adventure and the DS version of Sonic Colours.

It also appears the game will have some form of replay value involving other characters. According to the game’s description, players will rescue Sonic’s friends in each level. You’ll then be able to “see the levels in a different light”, with the friends then able to join him when replaying a level.

You can read the full description and view the new screenshots below:

You’ll also get to see the levels in a different light as Sonic rescues his captured friends, who can then join him in replays of the levels.

Thanks for Info Shadz!

Didnt Iizuka Confirm that while HD ver. will have almost all chars., the 3DS ver. will only have those most important to Story  Its confusing a bit.

It sounds like they might be able to follow you, like Tails in Sonic 2, 3&K and Sonic Advance. I don't see the point, but I guess it's cool.

At least play coins can work as a substitute sometimes, although getting them can just be annoying.

Ok, SEGA. You can give me the game now, i am officially sold.

It was hinted in HD ver. as co-op in leak. I hope they wont just move it to 3DS ver. and scrap in HD ver.

I know that and of course it wasn't scrapped in the HD version. I don't think we knew they'd be in the 3DS version, though.

It's just, I just imagined the co-op friends to kill enemies with you or something, but the "Seeing the levels in a new light" makes it sound a lot more interesting.

It sounds like the co-op missions from the console version, which are single player.

Will be great if this means the 3DS version is getting co-op missions, too.

P.S.: You forgot to copy and paste the bullet pointed stuff in your post at Retro :P

Probably everyone thought they werent since Iizuka said that only most important chars.(Most important to story so probably Tails, Amy and maybe Rival boss(es)) are in 3DS ver.

It's sounding a lot better and I'll get it eventually but I just can't spend $40 on this when the HD version is only $10 more. They should knock $10 off the 3DS price like they did for the HD version. Besides it seems like every new 3DS game has dropped from $10-$20 in price on Amazon within only a few weeks of their release. I'm gonna wait it out.

This version is impressing me a little more with each bite of info we get. I may have to pick it eventually.

Anyone else notice how this page doesn't mention online play?

Didn't Ken Balough say it had Wi-Fi multiplayer? I assume he means online, I don't think you use that term for offline mulitplayer.. But what do I know xD

Sega, why haven't you taken my money yet

as for the captured friends, I believe will get 6-7 instead of the nine we got in the HD version, which would in fact be less. Meaning Tails, Amy, Knuckles(if not a rival), Cream, Blaze(if not a rival), Marine, Rouge, and possibly Shadow (if not a rival) or Silver(if not a rival) as well. Sadly I can't really see characters like the Chaotix appearing in this version, though Omega and Big could end up being exclusive to this version, with the Chaotix being exclusive to the HD. Either way I'm excited to see that the advance 3 gimmick is still a possibility on the 3DS version.

Also now that missions are also confirmed to the 3DS version, I wonder how many it will get, and what kind of collectibles will be available (maybe old concept art, or 3D trophies/dioramas)

Also I may have bad news on the alleged Wi-fi play, seeing as Super Monkey Ball 3DS's site clearly says this but it only supports local wireless play

The stuff about other characters is very interesting. I wonder which friends have been chosen. Also:

Those Casino Night screens make me excited to see a certain Dreamcast level in HD

@ Cero: I could totally see Classic Knuckles and Blaze featuring as rivals in the 3DS version.

I'm still wondering why Dimps went with the "highway in the sky" style stage design. It's very primitive, visually unappealing, and something Backbone did very well to avoid in Rivals. Using Play Coins for this and that doesn't sound like a good idea to me, but that's mainly because the entire concept of them is awful. This version of the game has me torn. It's got good things going for it, but everything we've seen for Classic Sonic is C&P, while the Modern versions of the stages look like Rush rejects. Actually the modern version would probably be more enjoyable if it played like Rush with tricks and everything.

One more thing...

This Nintendo 3DS adventure includes an unlockable special stage...

Disappointed about this. I was wondering from the start if they were just going to pull this again, and only give one character special stages.

The most Iconic Rivals (my opinion) are in HD ver. But anyone doubts that Blaze will be boss in 3DS ver.? Not sure about Knuckles tho.

I'm pretty sure Knuckles will be the rival for the classic era in he 3DS version. For the mid era, I'm expecting to see either emerel or Gmel so the advance games can at least get some representation. As for the modern era I'm really expecting blaze to be the rival.

As far as arena bosses go, well we've already got big arm confirmed for he classic era. I'm think Biolizard will be the boss for the mid era, and probably Erazor for the modern era.
