I've never met a female Sonic fan in real life, and all the female Sonic fan's I've seen via online profiles usually fit the 'anime loving' art drawing stereotype. I'm certainly not trying to generalize, and I was just curious if anyone has encountered any hardcore female Sonic fans who's main interest is the games and not all that weird gross romance stuff. I mean girls that grew up with the Genesis games, are hardcore speed runners that can beat any hotshot male (such as myself xD). Are there actually girls that think characters like Blaze, Rouge and Sally are lame and think Sonic is badass because he's cool and not because he's cute or anything?

Are you or have you encountered any of these female Sonic fans? (Sorry if I'm not clear but I think people will get what I'm trying to say). And I'm not meaning to offend or generalize here and I apologize if anyone is bothered by this topic.

I'm actually not that interested in romance (despite what you may have seen, and the shipping list on my profile), certainly not enough to engage myself in one of those stupid shipping war things.

Don't see why being 'hardcore' means you have to hate certain female characters, though...

Um... *points to self confused*

But I think Blaze and Rouge are pretty cool though, as well as Sonic. Can't they be cool too??? :V

Also I'm pretty sure there are plenty of female Sonic fans. It's not like an endangered species or anything.

...unless there's been poaching. o.o

Yes there are female Sonic fans who fit your 'criteria' in fact I think that theres quite a lot of them... but I have to ask, what does it matter if they do or don't fit that criteria?

I never met any female Sonic fans irl so I don't know about this one. Maybe you ought to look at their dating profile or something to find this kind of thing out. :P

But then again they would be just as insane as the rest of the fanbase. :P

I introduce to you half of these forums.

But Lily doesn't count as a Sonic fan. :P

No no no don't get me wrong I'm not saying it's bad or not bad whether they have any of these characteristics. I was recently having an argument with a friend who believes that all female Sonic fans are 'weird' and only like the anime-type areas of the fanbase, so I made this topic to try and prove him wrong xD

I've seen males involved with shipping Sonic, too. Granted, I have no idea what the ratio of male shippers to female shippers is, but unless I've been grossly misinformed, it shouldn't be hard at least to find guys supporting SonSal, SonAmy, and Sonaze. I guess it just depends on what corner of the net you hang out in.

Heck, you can probably find plenty of Sonic yaoi porn drawn by males. XD

Why would a gamer girl necessarily hate (or think lamely of) Blaze, Rouge or Sally just because they're not into romance? I love Sally, myself, but I'm not into pairing her with anyone. I think Sonic is awesome because he's a total badass, not because he's cute. I didn't grow up with the Genesis games, but why should that make me less hardcore? My first Sonic game was SA2 but the classics are my firm favourites. I don't think you have to grow up on the classics (or even like them) to be hardcore, though. Your criteria seems to be really narrow and specific, to the point where you're excluding people on really odd technicalities. Also I'm totally not into animé and I don't draw, but I already failed because I like Sally, which apparently makes me one of the 'weird' girl gamers and not 'hardcore'? D:

Bwahahaha~ I feel bad for replying for this but man... the vast majority of my students who are (female) Sonic fans (there are more than I thought there'd be) are of the type you described. They enjoy drawing fan characters, male on male couplings, so on and so forth. It's very endearing from my perspective until it interferes with instruction/learning. I can only think of one that keeps it low key~

There are plenty of normal Sonic fans out there trust me! Many will probably reply to this topic~

I don't think the term hardcore gamer means much anymore. To the best of my memory, it's used into two ways...positively, to describe someone who plays lots of old school style games for long amounts of time, and negatively, to describe people who act like stereotypical jocks and play first person shooters. Both definitions seem rather useless to me.

Haha you actually got me there xD I should have worded this more carefully. I guess what I'm trying to say is I've encountered male 'Classic Fag Elitists' but the female fans are generally more open minded.

It might just be that fans who like both Classic and Modern are so rare that it's surprising to see fans like that of either gender. Not that I'm trying to diss fans who just like one or the other, though, even though I hope Generations unites the fandom a bit more.

The two female Sonic fans I know, who are actually some of my best friends, actually draw more Disney-esque and cartoony anthropomorphic art than anime art, really.

And at least one of them is much more into the games than I am, that's for sure. She's been fan of them for quite a while (at least as long as I have if not more), and I believe she's done some speed runs at one point. At least for some forum-based contests, if I recall correctly. She hates Cream, too. Really likes Shadow and thinks he's awesome/cool and such. I'm not sure about her views on Amy, Rouge, or Blaze, but I don't think she likes them more than Sonic or Shadow because of their "girlishness". =P

The other likes Shadow a lot, too, and I'm pretty sure it's because he's cool as well.

So, such fans do exist, and I'm glad to know them. :3

I dunno, Blaze seems pretty masculine outside of the Olympics games. XD

Some fans are Anime fan stereotypes, some aren't, I fail to see how this is a big deal.

There's not a fanbase alive(Especially to the degree of Sonic) that aren't over zealous about their favorite series, and very rarely do you find someone who aren't generalized the way you make them sound.
