No, I'm not asking you if you don't participate in shipping. I'm asking you if you participate in it, but don't support any of the shipping groups. (This discussion primarily relates to the games.)

Take me for starters: I believe that none of the ships make any sense, and thus I don't support them, but instead of just staying out of the conversation, I provide arguments against the shipping pairs.

Sonic - He's fast, he's cool, and he has no interest in personal relationships as they impede on his ideals of freedom. All opportunities of romance are quickly doused by him. He takes off whenever Amy comes running after him in the lovey-dovey manner that she does, but is willing to hang out with her on friendly terms.

Tails- He's what, 8? He looks up to Sonic first and foremost, and is most likely going to follow his lead in the future. At the most, he may get a crush.

Knuckles- His concern lies with his duty as guardian of the Master Emerald. The only times he ever found himself hinting towards a relationship was whenever Rouge would flirt with him, and his first and foremost response would be confusion.

Shadow- Shadow really isn't the sort of guy for interaction, but he has been known to act friendly with those willing to be his. The closest thing to a romantic relationship I saw him have was his budding one with Maria (perhaps). There was his interaction with Rouge in '06, but I saw that as more as a show of good friendship.

In all the games, to me, it just seemed that all the hints of relationship were one sided towards the females. The males were just victims of woman hormones. The concept of shipping them never seemed logical to me.

I've always had a soft spot for knuxouge and sonamy. But other than those, I don't take part in shipping.

But I've always wondered what things would be like if Eggman had a love interest. Maybe a smoking hot female scientist assistant would be nice.

I just prefer to avoid shipping altogether. I won´t go out of my way to criticize someone shipping - hell, I don´t even really mind it, it´s there and there´s not much I can do about it. And sometimes it´s good for a laugh or two.

I´d just rather not partake in pairing two characters together like that.

The very thought of shippers in this world is terrifying. Imagine some really bad things and pretend I said them because I can't think of any. That's what shippers are doing to the society. Please somebody, think of the children!

It's just a bit of harmless fun that people enjoy because they have different taste to you. Sonic characters getting in to relationships in the games would really annoy me. Such has absolutely no place in the series in so many ways, and it's one of the many reasons I can't stand the Archie comics where everyone is married to what looks like a lame fan character. But when people wanna make up their own stories for fun, they can do whatever they like. They can have Shadow become president of Russia, or have Sonic fall madly in love Duke Soleanna while he's supposed to be marrying Cream the next day (also Amy is Silver's daughter for some reason). It's not my cup of tea at all, but why the hell should I care whether it makes sense or not?

But now seriously. Every series has shipping. If there is a male character and female character in series and there is fanbase there will be shipping.

I personally dont mind it if a certain couple is partly "proved" like SonicXAmy, ShadowXAmy, KnuxXRouge, ShadowXRouge, SilverXBlaze, SonicXBlaze. As the certain characters spend some time with each other and some people tend to support this relationship. I dont mind it. Heck in some cases I support it since shipping is part of fanbase.

But when I see thos ridiculus couples I just cant stop laughing. Like SilverXTikal. I mean its ridiculus characters never met so... You know the drill. So yeah I'm okay with this as long as its sane.

Shipping is fine as long as its done responsibly. There's nothing wrong with having a preference for your own individual feelings regarding the relationships of some of the characters in the franchise. It probably healthy for such people to exist anyway. It adds another dimension to characterization and makes us as fans scrutinize interaction that much more. In a way, it keeps some denomination of the fanbase rabid and interested in the series between major releases, which can only be a good thing.

Plenty of people take the topic too far, but that's on the person doing it, not the topic at hand.

Blaze/Silver/Shadow is my favorite and only shipping I support. I like the idea of Blaze and Shadow fighting for Silver's affections (and for him to be attention to them). Other than that, I don't support any other ones except for crossovers like Latios/Amy or Amy/Haruhi

There will always be love in the air, just like humans and animals love each other. Otherwise this world will be a hateful / boring place. You can't love everyone, nor there relationships but sooner or later it will happen (great example, Archie)

Shipping is a natural part of any fanbase, especially if two or more characters have expressed interest in another. Its inevitable. Shipping is mostly harmless(except when it isn't) and I see no problem with people pairing their favorite characters together; like Dog Tagz said, it adds dimension to a character and their background(Unless the ship is completely nonsensical). I'm a closet shipper to me honest, I'm not as extreme as other people, but I find myself attracted to one or two pairings.

I don't expect there to be any actual romantic involvements in the games aside from Sonic and Amy's pre-teen fangirl tension and Knuckles and Rouge's reluctant crush on each other.

I dunno. The idea of these characters "going steady" rubs me the wrong way for some reason.

Fucking Archie. Seriously, I have no problem with the pairings per se, but its so damn weird seeing Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles making out and making googly eyes at other girls, when no media has ever done this before. Its just so damn jarring. It really doesn't help that Knuckles' partner is basically a female version of himself.

He also credits Shadow as his muse, takes after his appearance, swears to Shadow that they know each other, and enjoys finding new ways to make Shadow suffer despite obviously liking the character.

Actually, Sonic Team's overall portrayal of love never looked healthy to me. Perhaps part of the appeal of shipping is the desire to correct things.

I know other medias weren't immune, but they were more subtle about it; Name one time in Underground or AOSTH where Sonic made out with Breezy, or Knuckles with Sonia?

He and Rouge had a definite "moment" after their battle in Meteor Herd in Sonic Adventure 2, as they did in the final cutscene of the game, and Rouge's line there in particular signified that she might consider attempting a full relationship with him - and though most of it is, indeed, flirting, Rouge acts like that almost exclusively with Knuckles, and I believe that there's a definite reason behind that.

So, if anything, I'm pro-shipping, as I think that there is some real chemistry going on between certain characters in the franchise, and that fans are perfectly entitled to speculate on it as an element of storyline and characterisation - of course, a lot of fanart and fanfiction takes it to a whole different level.
