Are you suggesting that all complaints and criticisms are valid? Even the ones that are factually incorrect, or contradict one another? Do you believe that a good game is one designed solely according to the fanbase's and critics' demands?
What is it about understanding what people are trying to say?
If all of us didn't say a word about how bad 06 was, or, how the characters (At the time) Were an annoying over-abundance, what the fuck do you think SEGA would have done? Nothing.
They would keep adding characters, they would stop giving a shit about anything because apparently, their fans would eat any old shit.
We would continue to get ridiculed by gamers and critics, to the point where it would be unheard of to think Sonic was actually good anymore.
Hell, even I have said before they listen at the wrong time, and the wrong thing. But not to hear us at all?
That's just stupid.

No. I'm suggesting that all complaints and criticisms should be voiced, and then anyone with half a brain can differentiate between the idiocy and sense. Good games are made by developers who know what they want to do and what their fans want. Are you suggesting that all complaints and criticisms are valid? This entire topic is bloody stupid. SEGA look for feedback on the games, and there's plenty of it all around the internet and in the real world. Somehow a load of your have managed to get your knickers in a twist over that.

Exactly. My problem with your post was that it represented all feedback as being both equal and also worth listening to, without tempering it with the point that feedback can also be inaccurate and irrelevant. Developers would have to be morons to listen to everything their fans and critics say; they should be ignoring a certain amount of it, or have some way of filtering out the ignorant points. Which is exactly what this topic is about; the need for criticism to be constructive if we want to get anything changed (or indeed to get something to remain the same).

I agree. The whole point of the quoted post that started this topic is that Sega's community team look at threads and opinions everywhere already; they don't need a specialised thread or even for fans to do anything new that they aren't already doing. Anyone with a brain was already voicing constructive criticism rather than mindless bashing (or mindless praising, for that matter, but the former's easier).

Cool beans. Anyone who thinks certain criticisms of the Sonic series are valid are pretty dumb (like "there shouldn't be any jumping in a Sonic game"). The problem that we have on our hands is the undeniable divide between preferred Sonic styles in any sense. So while one comment might be totally valid, it could go completely against what around half of people want.Exactly. Mindless praising? There's definitely a LOT of that going on sometimes. Mindless bashing too, but that usually gets called out upon at least.I agree. Heh, is that a callback to when I posted about my old roommate saying Generations wasn't fast enough, and that it needed to get rid of jumping? Or maybe just a funny coincidence. Either way, it reminded me that the roommate in question got Generations during its christmas sale and loves it.
On topic, OBVIOUSLY what must be done is to submit our awesome fan characters to SEGA so that they can make awesome games with them. And the games will be awesome because the fancharacters are awesome. It's a winning strategy.

Make this a thing, SEGA.
Actually, wait, no, that'd be dumb.

Then people would never accept them. Ever.

I will have to say it sounds nice and promising that the Sonic Team states they are listening to the players regarding feedback and criticism. =)
