Zone Ideas for Episode 2!

Recommended Posts

The title says it all, what type of Tropes do you want appearing in Episode 2? You can also talk about level gimmicks and give names for your imaginary levels as well if you're feeling creative. Speculation is fun! smile.png

Well, let's begin!

Well a camelot castle/ruins type of stage in ruins at night would be cool. It just seems kind of unique.I don't know how but horses should somehow be involved in that stage. A coral caves type of level also seems fun. and maybe a re-creation of zones that didn't get into the originals? And maybe some sort of new fire/volcanic zone....With those lava platforms from crisis city.

I would like a canyon/desert zone with some faling rocks and indie & cowboy badnicks using arrows, ropes and lil guns.

Some sort of cowboy films music would be needed of course.

Well they've already done this with unleashed and colors but how about a japanese type of level? With a Tropical/man-made/water/ancient type of level Twist to it?I'm thinking Lily pools would be a cool gimmick. And i love tmps' cowboy idea!

1.Fruit Hill Zone-Lot's of fruits which can be used as springs, dash rings, item boxes, grinds or other gimmicks. There is a big garden with fruits and the sunset is seen at the back with umbrellas flying from the light wind

2.Ruined Village Zone-Maybe the first encounter with Metal Sonic could be there also the first fight with him.Sonic and Tails could get on top of not ruined houses or get through ruined houses with fire

3.Desert Mountain Zone-This is mostly uphills where Sonic is in desert-like mountain when on the top the level environment changes to snow/winter like with different music and snowboard and when more downhill the environment changes back to desert then the act with the boss could be huge yeti like Eggman robot.

4.Stone Bridge Zone-Sonic runs on a big trap bridge when Metal Sonic appears and throws stones and break the bridge and Sonic and Tails falls in the deep where there is a hidden cave/Eggman base with his experiments about Metal Sonic.Sonic finds a way to defeat Metal Sonic and gets outside the base and he encounters a boss with Eggman. When Sonic wins Eggman falls into the big trap and everything seems ok when a big castlelike factory rises from the ground and the final zone appears.

5 Final Zone-Sonic enters the final base where he fights Metal Sonic three times where he has different shapes every time (mostly gimmicks for Sonic to fight with)In the end Sonic and Tails gets to the big altar where Eggman and Metal Sonic reveal their big plan and the Final battle begins which Tails fight with Metal Sonic and Sonic with Eggman ,then phase two begins and the two heroes switch places ,but then Eggman flees (for Episode 3) and Sonic is left with Metal Sonic. In the end Sonic destroys Metal for good and the two with Tails leave the place :)

City A Zone: A beautiful high-class city

City B Zone: A city at night

City C Zone: A run-down city

City D Zone: A city at dawn

City EF Zone: A once beautiful city just destroyed by Eggman. Sonic's final battle of Episode 2 with Eggman takes place here.

Serious post:

Beach/City stage. Imagine Emerald Coast in reverse; start out in the all-natural beach area, move in towards the hotel areas/boardwalk/whatever towards the end of it.

Haunted forest. Spooky trees and shit.

Trains. Why not.

I'd kinda like something trippy. Maybe a level where Sonic's stuck in a dream, or gets knocked out or something like that. Just some excuse to throw crazy colors and unorthodox level design at us.

Honestly, I think they should go the way of Knuckles Chaotix and give all the level designers a line of coke so they can come up with some psychodelic shit.

Good Lord.

I'd like to see a Western style desert level, a la Dust Hill (Desert Dazzle) and Frontier Canyon. Problem is the former was never realized, and the latter was in a low-profile PSP game. It would make a great addition, I think. Complete with scorpion badniks and tumbleweeds.

You know you want it!

Dead Egg Zone

Act I: Run through a tropical jungle laden with bits of machinery that have fallen in the forest. Stop old badniks from wreaking havoc on the beautiful jungle!

Act II: Explore the ruins of the Death Egg as nature claims the fallen base. Swing on vines that have grown in through the walls and fight malfunctioning badniks.

Act III: Race to the core of the fallen Death Egg, being mindful of collapsing sections of the old spaceship and pools of water that have formed around exposed wires—they'll shock you when they activate.

I wouldn't mind a Cyberspace trope like Techno Base (Advance 2), Cyber Track (Advance 3), Digital Circuit, and Mad Matrix (Shadow The Hedgehog) to return. It's a unique trope that's not used very often. It'd be cool to get a Desert/Western trope too.

Space Break Zone

A place located in a dimensional rift, between two worlds. It looks mechanical yet lke ruins, like an ancient advanced civilization lived there.

There are switches through the zone. Use them to switch from version A of the level to version B, which is different in several ways.

Sandy Hills Zone:

Act I: Sonic comes across a frozen desert at nighttime! Slide across the icy dunes, investigate the ruins, and battle fiery badniks.

Act II: As the sun rises, the snow melts and the desert comes to life! Sonic explores a sandy oasis filled with pools of water, underground lakes, and flowering cacti.

Act III: As the sun get higher, the water begins to dry up. Roll across sandy dunes, but be careful—if Sonic stays in the sun too long he'll die! Try to take cover inside of the dried up caves!

Mountain Zone

A nice neutral starter that can be grassy without being tropical, plenty of rocky areas too though. Imagine something Dragon Road/Kingdom Valley-ish, but with the altitude of Hill Top Zone. Act 2 could be mostly cavernous, and Act 3 could be way high up and contain some Tornado wing-walking sections. I imagine it being overcast under the clouds but beautiful blue sky above.

Desert Zone

A western style desert with cactus and stuff. Act 2 would be canyon-esque with a very vertical-shaped stage - if the game contained wall jumping it would really come into it's own here. Act 3 would be on the desert flats again, but contain some man-made ruins - wooden/metal shanty towns etc.

Pink Zone

Something nice and surreal, straight out of Knuckles' Chaotix. Could be a theme park with ferris wheels and roller coasters and stuff. Dunno about act variety but could have different times of day.

Ice Zone

No real inventive ideas for this one, but IF we get five proper zones instead of four - which would be lovely - I'd go for an Icey one. This would be where it would appear in difficulty, but the other four come "before" this in terms of priority. If we only got four zones, I'd skip this ice one, I mean.

Haunted Zone

We don't have many spooky levels so yes we're due for one. Could contain steampunk-esque elements. For Sonic reference I'd say something like a haunted Machine Labyrinth (though mostly inside). For anyone who's played it, REALLY in my head it looks like the Victorian tileset from Timesplitters 2 mapmaker.

Airship Zone

Boss rush and Metal Sonic showdown (preferably on seperate acts). The airship is blimp-esque and flying above a sprawling city. Perhaps multiple airships, like a fleet. For the boss rush it would be a subtley-epic misty dawn over the city, but for the act with the Metal Sonic battle, a storm somewhat like the one from Nightside Rush in Sonic Riders ZG - lots of pretty ripples and reflections. The boss race would take you on and off the blimp(s), perhaps with a few more Tornado sections somehow, and dropping down to the city highways and crashing through buildings etc.

Special Stage

I'd like the entrances to be in-level ala Sonic 3/Sonic Rush, with seeking them out being the challenge and a reward for exploring tougher routes. As for the actual content, not fussed, but I'd rather go for "obstacle course with unorthodox control style" than just collecting rings. Something collecting-ish but a totally new idea - like blue spheres or UFO smashing were compared to the majority of special stages - would be fine too.

I also kind of like the idea of making them nice and difficult, but with a nicely fair "retry" condition - when you find a special stage entrance, you get one free go - additional tries cost 100 rings (though any rings collected within the stage get added to your level total). Rings collected in special stages however are deducted from your end of stage ring score to prevent farming them for crazy high scores.

Woods/forest

Canyon/desert

Island

Underwater base

Naval Base

Airship Fortress

Maybe Episode II can end with the Airship crashing near the remains of the Death Egg or something...

Special Stages are 2D races towards the emerald. Must reach and avoid obstacles/badniks before the time limit ends. Special stages get harder with more complex obstacles, more badniks, and less supplied rings.

Emerald Acres- Neighborhood/Green level

Holiday Kingdom- Ice/Christmas level

Outlaw Canyon- Desert Western zone

Aquatic Volcano- Eggman has a base built inside of an underwater volcano and it's a Factory/underwater/Fire level.

Airship level- this one pretty much explains itself.

I think made a thread about creating sonic stages just for anybody who wonders what Holiday Kingdom and Emerald Acres look like.

I honestly don't care the the level tropes are. All that matters is that they're not the same tropes as E1 and look unique for the series.

EDIT: Just had a thought. Much as I don't want rehashes or any such crap, I wouldn't object to something like Stardust Speedway considering Metal Sonic and all. Musical city, starry sky, epic showdown... Stardust Speedway is one of the coolest Sonic levels ever. The one small boss stage in Generations set in the bad future did it no justice. It's so iconic of Metal Sonic too.

City stage: Something like Speed Highway taking place in a grassland area at midday as opposed to a city at night.

Green stage: a forest, as you proceed through the zone it starts being deforested by Eggman's forces until it turns into a factory stage.

Ice stage: Starts off as a straight up Jungle stage in act 1, a quarter through the second act an Eggman made machine freezes it over, the rest of the zone using this theme.

Coral Beach: a seaside/green level with tropical elements, piers, and beach stuff. Act 1 more sea/green, Act 2 more pier etc, Act 3 a mix... FIRST ENCOUNTER WITH METAL SONIC

Boss: Egg Octopus

Holiday Town: a small mountain town decorated for xmas. The level should be played while snowing. snowboard section. Act1 more mountain, Act2 more town, Act 3 forest a frozen lake.

Boss: Egg Santa

Fortune Mall: a huge shopping plaza with carnival/casino elements. perfect place for party ballons and something like that. Act1 more carnival, Act 2 more casino, Act 3 outside park. SECOND ENCOUNTER WITH METAL SONIC

Boss: Egg Clown

Sunrise Canyon: desert canyon themed stage at sunrise. factory element. Act1 more desert, sunrise Act2 more rocks, daylight. Act 3 more factory, sunset

Boss: Egg Driller

Neon Avenue: a city stage, full of light, futuristic stuff, skateboard (or maybe overboard) element. Act1 less speed, lot of lights. Act 2 speed oriented. Act 3 more packed stage while raining. THIRD ENCOUNTER WITH METAL SONIC

Boss: Egg Nitro

Abandoned Base: most complex level, cave and base elements. Act 1 starts in a jewels cave and end in a sort of old unused base. Act2: Sonic keeps going down and discovers the true operative Eggman base

Boss: Tails controlled by Eggman (Or Sonic if you use Tails)

Magma Core: final Zone near the center of the earth. Boss fight against Silver Sonic, Metal Sonic and a gigantic Eggman Robot

Darkness City Zone:

Act 1 - Dying Nature = A dull green plains of withering plants, trees & barricaded homes that sits outside the main city, transitioning into the gates of the city of eternal nights & black clouds. Storm clouds hover throughout this act, lighting flashes & rain is pouring endlessly, covering the terrain with puddles & filling ditches with water.

Act 2 - The City of Eternal Darkness = The Heart of the city. This city resembles that of many different cities in real life clashed together. While not as ruined as other ruin city stages (e.g. Crisis City, Perfect Chaos), many sections has nature reclaiming areas with wild vines & mutated plantlife. This place is normally dark, with moonlight shining through calm storm clouds, in which the storm of the previous act has been lifted. (thunder can be heard at some points throughout this act though). Puddles are still present.

Act 3 - To Outrun A Crisis = The storm has returned, & has become more disastrous than ever; a tornado rips through the streets & outside the city. This act opens up with Sonic running out of the city via a long twisted motorway/highway while literally outrunning the tornado that has become so intense that it is twisting & sucking the rain into the hurricane, transforming the tornado into a twisting vortex of water, wind & lighting. Segments of the highway is destroyed into platform & are lifted, similar to Stardust Speedway Act 3. The tornado will through debris at you ranging from pieces of buildings to water bombs.

Boss Act - Decisive Race within the Doom! = The last act continues after the storm has lifted, but as the clouds reveal the night sky, all that is seen is the damaged & deactive Death Egg hovering just over the skies (kinda like that scary moon over the last day of the village in LOZ: Majora's Mask). Not only that, but Metal Sonic rushes towards Sonic & thus recreating the Metal Sonic Race in Sonic CD but also have a battle taking place simultaneously like in the version in Sonic Generations. The objective of this Boss is to defeat Metal Sonic whilst escaping the city. If you just simply outrun him to the end without attacking him 8 times, then he will commit a kamikaze attack on you, & both Sonic & Metal Sonic will be left in the radius of the blast taken from the Death Egg's eye cannons of the city - I guess The Death Egg still has some use to it if Robotnik can still launch an attack from it whilst in such as critical condition. If you attack him enough to cause him to go somewhat unstable (kind of like him in the Sonic OVA) & outrun him to the exit, you will pass but that makes Metal Sonic a little bit more challenging to outrun.

After the boss, Sonic will be saved Tails in his Tornado, but Metal Sonic will cling onto the wings for a while until he slips off. As he falls, a glimpse of light is seen on him when he is about to fade away, & soon after, the Death Egg launches the cannon attacks on the city that Sonic once been in. The Tornado barely escapes from the blast from the start, but the Bi-plane manage to boost away from the radius without stalling for time. After the blast, Sonic looks back at the destroyed metropolis whilst folding his arms & turning away with his eyes closed, cringing from the destruction the mad doctor had done.

Metal Sonic is assumedly dead (but he actually survived with the lasts of his abilities to form a diamond shield with his energy to protect himself from the aftershock of the blast - it just wasn't shown in this cutscene/transition).

(Trope: City / Ruin / Tropics / Horror (I suppose, that's what the Act 3 & Boss Act is supposed to be - impending Doom))

-------------------------

Holy crap, & that is only one level I had thought of! Just to say, I was inspired by the Land Of Darkness from the Sonic OVA/The Movie!
