So I'm a huge fan of vinyls.

I collect vinyls as one of my main hobbies (besides game designing, writing and drawing). I also tend to be a big fan of early 90s electro-house / techno / rave stuff related to Sonic. This had led me to go out of my way to purchase the vinyl sets of tracks such as "H.W.A. Supersonic", "Super Sonic Dance Attack", and "Wonderman".

There is this one Sonic album I love nearly more than all the rest, created by JP/EU Sonic CD music composers Masofumi Ogata and Naofumi Hataya, is this...

Sonic the Hedgehog : REMIX.

This is a collection of 90s electro-house and acid jazz made solely as a remix album for the songs within the JP/EU variation of Sonic CD. I am a massive fan of this album, and I sometimes tend to wonder why Sega started to shy away from this type of music (Engrish or not).

Anywho, the album is notoriously rare. It's barely known outside of both Japan and the retro section of the Sonic community, even though a very substantial amount of effort was put into the music on this album. You can come by the CDs being sold occasionally, and they usually rack up from $90USD to $299USD...

...And then there's the vinyl version of the album....

It's even stated on Retro: there was once a version of 'Sonic: REMIX' that was released for vinyl in first press release alongside the release of the CDs, though very few were made, and... there is no recorded evidence that they existed. No pictures of the vinyl's folds, no pictures of the record, nothing.

You can safely assume this is an extremely rare "lost artifact" in the world of Sonic merchandise, as well as the 90s electro-house music scene. This is why I am in complete awe of my own folly: I found a for-sale copy of the vinyl.

Yep, you heard me. I found a copy of the "Sonic the Hedgehog : REMIX" vinyl set for sale on eBay, nearly about three months ago. It was being on auction for less than the ~$120USD area on first bid, was being sold on the international branch of ebay.co.jp, and looked completely legitimate. Thinking it was just your ordinary peice of rare merchandise, I envied having it (especially since I love vinyls so much), but I let it go and I'm pretty sure I remember seeing the sale abruptly end without an ending bid/purchase. I don't think it was renewed.

I think it's needless to say that I missed my chance to obtain this golden nugget. Which is why I bring it up here: there is a version of "Sonic the Hedgehog : REMIX" out there in the aether. Will I/we ever see it on the internet again? Maybe, maybe not. But that's why I came here and made this topic.

I'm on a hunt for this album, and I want to acknowledge people of it's existence. By telling all of you, this hopefully will spark a bit of interest in some of you people, and you may possibly help me on my journey to find this again. I'm not saying we make a group search-party deal, since I'm not into this like that. I'm just calling all fans of this album to see if they want to also look for it, obtain it, and archive the information for it while also holding onto one of the most valuable artifacts in Sonic history.

Hope some of you found this informative, or inspiring for the search. For all to whom will be on search for it (including myself): good luck. Definitely gonna need it. Posted Image

Have any of the tracks on this album been uploaded to Youtube or some other site?

Yeah, you can find the entire album on Youtube. It's just that we have no recorded information about what's on the vinyl. We don't know if there's less or more tracks, the way the vinyl cover and disc looks, or anything of that sort.

If you have the old auction link, I'd be very interested considering if this does exist it's the only piece of Sonic soundtrack history I don't own.

As it is rumoured, I'd take this with a pinch of salt initially, but if the old auction link has any pictures, especially in a good enough resolution to make out the catalogue number this would definitely peak my interest.

Great thread btw - possibly worthy of a front page article!

You see, this is where it gets tricky. Back when I found this, I didn't know of it's value, as I only found out how rare it was just yesterday when I looked up information on it via the Sonic Retro wiki. Thus, I do not have any links of the auction. The second thing to note is how it never was completed bidding on, but instead it disappeared straight off of eBay. Seems like the guy just found out about it's value..

On that note, it could have been a bootleg, but from what I saw it looked really legitimate, so if it is a bootleg then it would be sure to be a really amusing one at least. But either way, I'm pretty sure it was a real copy of it.

Sorry I'm not to be much help about it, but the full purpose behind making this topic of course was to reassure that out there, some form of this album in vinyl form does exist, and that we, being the Sonic merchandise connoisseurs that we are, should be on the lookout for if it ever happens to reappear so we can take our chances and win it in.

Great thread btw - possibly worthy of a front page article!

Do you remember the name of the listing? Like keywords at all? Only it may still exist somewhere if you search the same thing on google, if it's within time frame, there might still be an image of it there.

Sometimes when I search for pin badges for sale, google will display outdated ebay links which still have the images.

I put in a request at http://www.musicstack.com to see if they can dig up some information. Told them I'd be willing to shell out $25 if they can find it.

Here's hoping!

on my search through the many many music sites and underground vinyl dealers i've found a Dreamcast Collection Vinyl with Sonic Adventure, Space Channel 5, Crazy Taxi, House of the dead and phantasy star tracks on it... discovered Sonic Underground has 2 Music CD's (yes that really bad cartoon where sonic had a brother and sister, and they killed swat bots with music)... Sonic R got a vinyl for the song "Work it Out" although it is not performed by T.J Davis this one... but no sign of this Sonic The Hedgehog REMIX in Vinyl form, just CD's over on yahoo auction... i'll keep my eyes peeled though, since i do a daily music sweep. if i find one, i'll let you know straight away, since i don't collect vinyls, just the CD's lol.

Currently searching. And I was able to find an official Sega Japan website on it - but the text is garbled, and I don't know if it can ever be made readable again. I'll post back if I find anything useful.

Yeah, this was given away to promote the Dreamcast collection last year. I think it was limited to about 2,500 copies - I've got it, and being a bit of a vinyl freak myself I love hearing Open Your Heart with a bit of crackle to it!

discovered Sonic Underground has 2 Music CD's (yes that really bad cartoon where sonic had a brother and sister, and they killed swat bots with music)...

They come with some of the releases of the DVDs. And they are terrible.

Sonic R got a vinyl for the song "Work it Out" although it is not performed by T.J Davis this one...

The vocalist was Dee Dee Brave, and I believe the issue came from the fact TJ was signed to another label (the vinyl was released on King Street Records), so to avoid complications they got another vocalist. The vinyl frustratingly only contains remixes. Hex Hector is quite a reknowned remixer though which is what makes this an interesting thing to have.

There are two versions I know of - one which comes in a boring old white sleeve toted around for clubs and things like that, and a colour Sonic R sleeve which is much more scarce - the former you can pick up on the net for a tenner, the Sonic artwork one tends to go for a lot more.
