Unfortunately removing all boostpads would be way too troublesome, I have no idea where they are located, and which values they use, plus hex editing that file can cause certain parts of the stage to get broken, which would make it really hard to see if a boost pad was actually removed or not.

Removing the unnecessary boosters would improve the game by about 20% for me.

While I'm at it... taking out bottomless pits would go for another 20%, and a complete "Genesis"-styled soundtrack for yet another 20%, and including Episode 2 physics for 30%, and finally with improved textures at 10%, in total making the game 100% better in my eyes. Patiently waiting for that dream mod.

or....

*boots up Sonic 3 & Knuckles and no longer cares* :D

Read:

So yeah no tools mean no hacks outside of texture swaps. This game is basically unhackable, Something I thought that would never happen. This community has surprised me over and over on what it could hack right down to Heroes almost impossible at the time hacking. To see people give up soo easy on what should have been a easy as hell sonic game to hack, just sucks to see that potentional gone...

We'll see if anything changes once Episode 2 and Episode Metal release but if it doesn't I guess the topic can be closed.

Full hack-ability will happen eventually, there's no doubt about that. If I'm not mistaken, I remember reading at Retro that someone has working on cracking the AMB format for some time now. It can be done, but it's just taking longer.

I was just expected more people would be working on little stuff over here like retouching level tiles in the meantime. Taking the shine off the grass and whatnot.

Unpacking and repacking AMB files has been possible for quite some time, otherwise the texture mods wouldn't have been possible, since the texture files are also inside AMB files.

Right, I have done this myself. But we still don't have tools for anything else. You can unpack any of the files, but other than the textures, there are no ways of editing them. I was saying that I believe there was somebody at Retro working on that.

To repack you need to use the reimport shortcut, then select the script, select the AMB, and in the end select the file you want to reimport (if you want to repack multiple files, the tool will automatically reimport those other files as long as they're in the same folder as the one you selected).

About the textures, I've been trying a few things, I might do a 3rd pack, using the iPad version textures without the "shiny" effect (dunno what's the technical name for this, but that doesn't really matter), but I'm editing the textures to lower their brightness a bit.
Later today I'll post some pictures with the results.

How do you even open the shortcut?

Just a quick question.

How do you change the music in Episode 2 ? I really want to change some of the music in the game (Like Invincability music from Sonic Generations Final Boss and replace it with that)

Does anyone know ?

There's the sound folder, and all the music is in "SONICDL_SNG01.CPK" I think. You'll need something to unpack and repack .cpk files, and on top of the the music itself is in .aax files, so you need whatever music you want in the same format.

brb, looking for tools

EDIT: Okay, this should help
EDIT2: And the Generations .aax files, since you'll be wanted some of them

I've actually done that myself, albeit with the Android version.

Very simple, considering the Android version uses MP3s.

The iOS version uses .CSB
It's a pain.

Now that Episode 2 is out for the PC (Europe), I already switched the spindash and spinning sound effects. Since the sound effects files are similar to the Ep1 files, switching the sound effects was easy to do through hex editing:
