Sorry for the quality, but I no longer have a way to transfer stuff from my VHS tapes to my PC so I recorded this using Flare on my iPhone 4S. This is footage from an old show called Fox News for Kids, back when Sonic & Knuckles was brand new. I hadn't seen this posted anywhere and I found it on my Sonic the Hedgehog SatAM VHS tape (recorded from tv, each episode on their respective original air date) and figured I'd share it with all my fellow Sonic fans. I wonder where these guys are now?

Cool video nonetheless, its always awesome to see some old-school gaming events. It was definitely a very different time!

I wonder if SEGA will ever do something like that again?

I didn't even know there were tournaments for Sonic & Knuckles. The only promotional Sonic & Knuckles thing I remember is the Milky Way competition SEGA did in the UK.

Your name seems super familiar, like I've seen it somewhere before. V O I D perhaps? Not that I would have been there when you were there (way after the fact actually). If you weren't then my bad, I've got you mixed up with someone else.

Yup, I used to be in V O I D....waaaaaaaaaay back in the day. I've moved on to bigger and better things since then though lol.

It's unfortunate to know Sonic will never be this big again...

One kinda gets the feeling that Sega had a tiny bit more money to spend on marketing back in those days.
That was before the 32X and CD flopped on the market. SEGA never really fully recovered from that mess financially.

Thanks for the vid!
P.S. That "Ultimate knucklehead" reminds me of Yuji Naka for some reason..
And it is also nice to know and see that the audience are not only little children, but teenagers as well. I can't imagine audiences like that now if Sega were to make a Sonic Colors tournament.

Yeah i know, i was thinking the exact same thing. I still cant get over that "have you ever been bullied about liking Sonic"-topic where it became clear that a lot of teens these days will actually tease someone for liking Sonic due to the character and series being percieved as childish. And then you see a video like this that shows how popular Sonic was with teens back in the early 90's and it's just like... what the hell went wrong!?
Hmm, let's see. Those who were teens in the early 90's most have been born in either the late 70's or the very early 80's. In other words, they belong to Generation X, or the so called "MTV-generation", usually stereotyped as being especially lazy and uncaring during their teenage years. You know, the dudes with attitude who sat there with their long hair and smoked weed and were just like "whatever" when their parents told them to make something of their lives.
Well, regadless of how much of that stereotype is true, i love you generation X! Sucks being part of this stupid generation Y.
