Another GDK level.

This could have some good concepts for my Kingdom Valley level.

What do you guys think of this engine? Is it well made, does it need tweaks? Can it have the potential to make a great Sonic fan game?

Def has the potential to make a great sonic fan game! Easy to tweak as all the settings are coded in to be part of udk. Unreal engine is one of the best engines there is, but needs dedication to make something that stands out :D

Better yet I'll make it a Metroidvania game!

I'll call it Sonic Labyrinth.

Hm, if that was an in-game thing, I liked that music transition once it got to the 3D area.

Bit old I guess (November), but here's a good one I found:

Sonic in some Super Mario Galaxy awesomeness.

This engine is okay. Why just "Okay" you ask? That's easy...
  • Great Graphics
  • Terrible Physics
The physics are really bad, even by current Sonic standards...
Also, all these levels seem quite linear, but even if they weren't, the engine does NOT look like it could handle it. Look how bad Sonic turns... >_<

Like a heavy marble. When Sonic soars in the air he slows down some, but he falls fast, and he moves slow at first but gains easy momentum. It's not bad, overall.

Keep in mind guys that this is an engine not a fangame so don't judge it like one whatever your seeing is just different products people are creating. you can create anything you want its like using Gamemaker or Multilmedia Fusion.

This could have some good concepts for my Kingdom Valley level.

Some critique:

The part that starts at :37 needs to have the camera closer to Sonic. I couldn't see him very well until after he made it to the second half-pipe, but it would work better if the player could see the character in those parts.

Also, there's a big thing I have with the colors, as at 1:45 those colors look REMARKABLY drab in comparison to Sonic as he makes it to the town's place. Real life isn't that drab. It was more drab than Farquad's Castle from Shrek or even LoZ Twilight Princess Castle Town, so those colors need to be more vibrant so that Sonic doesn't appear too out of place. Some more orange, brown, and (maybe) some darker gray could help with that. Some other artists here may give you some better pointers on how to make that area more Sonic-esque and you can take some observations of the levels in Unleashed and look at how the take the realism and give it a Sonic feel to it.

Lastly, the parts where Sonic is moving in 2D look as if he's about to fall off the higher areas. When he's on ground level, he's fine. But if he's on another plain above, he should be more centered when he jumps to other platforms. That might be the camera making it look that way, but that's just something I noticed.

Well, the level is just a test. So it doesn't really reveal the full potential of the level, yet. But I do agree, the camera is sorta wacky, and physics need work.

Yeah, they should implement a official-style ability to make a scripted camera.

Yeah, the physics need serious tweaking.

Yeah, they should implement a official-style ability to make a scripted camera.

Then the people need permission from SEGA to use their scripts. :P

This showcases some of Sonic's other abilities, such as the Quick Step, and Lightspeed Dash. Super Sonic is also used in this level. The physics look a tad bit better if you ask me.
