Oh another thing i want to see in this. All Stars usable in Online mode. Did no one else find it annoying that they were not accessible in online?

No, I don't like slingshots.

I completely agreed with their decision to make them not accessible online. I'd find it more annoying if you could use them online.

The biggest problem for me that ASR's online had...

Was the start of a race.

Sometimes if you were placed behind an apponent and he decided to stall, or you were behind a blithering idiot, you'd crash into him and drop your speed through no fault of your own, if the people in pole position got perfect starts and even slightly had a clue as to what to do. You could never catch them, no matter what you did. Thanks to the borked start.

9 times out of 10, I was in the lead of the pack. So I can't really say I cared about the AS moves all that much. I wouldn't mind an option to turn them on and off, but if they're excluded again then I'm cool with it.

Thanks for ignoring me :V

No! I wasn't ignoring you...it's just that...so many people asked for it back in Generations, and now...barely...

So, as I read, there weren't such new figures, but the game is still on the way eh? I'll be looking foward to the day they officially reveal something

I think its better to wait for a proper announcement. Theres no proof of it, theres no SaSASR toys. Im not believing anymore of this til we get some valid proof. Not worth getting all hyped up if theres no proof. Wish it was true though!

Normally I don't like slingshot mechanics, but as much as I liked ASR, it had a pretty serious problem with the lead character(s). Once a reasonable gap formed, it was virtually impossible to close it, and like Hogfather says it's not always through any fault of your own - either the leader holds a considerable lead right from the starting gun, or everyone hinders each other mid-race fighting over second place and just makes the leader's life a hell of a lot easier. Even offline when the Allstar moves do come into play, they tend to trigger from too far back in the race roster to be of use against anyone who genuinely needs to be slowed down in order to actually pull a win off. There were many times when racers could easily pull 20 second leads simply because there was nothing left to actually reach him, and it was simply ridiculous.

That said, from what I can remember of their actual excuse for leaving Allstar moves out it largely had something to do with them compromising the ideal packet size for a lagless online race... and honestly, I don't quite buy that. A large amount of them were just speed increases with touch of death equipped, with a few that could cause splash damage on command ala WAAAAAAH SUPER HORN. Would you really have to do much more than toning down the Bonanza Bros's Allstar to make them feasible online? 'cos a lot of it doesn't really seem like that much trouble otherwise.

The first place conundrum could just be solved by giving second place some homing missles, rather than giving both 1st and 2nd purely defensive weapons like those traffic cones. Though they could just take the All-star and replace it with some kind of Bullet Bill-type item which functions as a.....Bullet Bill.

Heh..... Am I the only one who read this and thought "a blue turtle shell would fix all of this".

I hate the stinking shell.

While we're on the topic, I think we've all noticed that sweet spot in online play where the leader is all but moonwalking across the finish line. There just aren't enough range attacks effective to overcome a massive lead. If we get a sequel, I'd love to see this rectified in the form of dynamic tracks. Blocking off a stages best shortcuts from the people in the lead, and opening them up for the people lagging behind. The first two laps should try to make the race as competitive as possible, and then on the third lap open everything to everybody.

Playing ASR online was kind of awkward. In the races you win, your leading by a mile. Makes you feel good, but its not that rewarding. The game is almost at its best when your fighting with the pack for second place. Drifting around rivals like a boss.

Nice to see that a sequel is in the works. I liked the first game and I will look into more information on this as soon as it comes.

Thanks to this topic, I now have this game for the PS3 as well as the Wii version I got when it came out. It was interesting to note that the Wii version now costs more than the HD version. My boyfriend and I had a grand time, him trying to figure out the game and me trying to sort out the new version's controls. (For some reason, I want to use the L stick to steer left and the R stick to steer right. No idea why I do, but it works very poorly.)

Of course, now I have to figure out which version of the sequel I want.

I don't really like it when you're in first place and someone that's way behind and has been crashing the whole course is able to catch up to you by using some kind of move that you have no access to and ends up on the same level as you, despite you timing turns, drifts, and items with skill.

Basically, I hope they keep it that way.

It would work great if it wasn't for the madness that is the start. If you have a race with people who know what they're doing and one person messes up the start, it can ruin the whole race for everyone, if the guy in pole gets away clean but someone in second or below messes up, it can cause a crash at the start and you'll never catch the leader again.

Thanks a bunch for the update, Hogfather! This seems legit. I'm all for a drive through Casino Night Zone.

Thanks for the news Hogfather!

I must admit, I am a bit bummed that from the looks of it, we'll be getting two Sonic tracks that are in essence quite similar to what we got in the first game. Hopefully the rest of the courses will make up for it, however.

Thanks for the news, Hogfather! Looks like our princess figures were in another castle toy fair. I know Green Hill Zone and Casino Night Zone are the same tropes as the Heroes stages in the first game, but I don't care. I'm happy :P

Im personally a bit skeptical on the subject, specifically due to Seaside Hill and Casino Park looking quite similar to the two mentioned by Hogfather, so confusion would be pretty easy. I'd like to actually see the sets before coming to a conclusion

EDIT: Though, seeing as they are the same tropes its entirely possible that they're using assets from the first game to create new stages

Very interesting! Though another way to read it is: ASR Sonic, ASR Knuckles and seperate Sonic and Knuckles non-ASR figures with playsets, playing off of the whole 20th anniversary thing. Or the playsets are Seaside Hill and Bingo Highway and they were just told the wrong info.

We will see...

I did think of that when I was writing up that post, but then I discounted it when I considered the following.

* The Guardian & certainly not the Toyworld magazine, are video game experts, I doubt they would even know much of anything about ASR, let alone what stages were in it.

* At these toy fairs, just about every toy is clearly labled, either with their packaging, or by a small card next to each toy that says exactly what it is.

* Two sources have both reported Green Hill & Casino Night. To me, that suggests the the description of the stages were there and the reporters used that for their articles.

And I really hope that ASR 2 is real, because they might do a second pizza hut promotion, then I have an excuse to go there again =p

I'm a little disappointed that Casino Night is rumored(not to mention a sequel to All Stars Racing instead of All Stars Fighting...or something), mainly because Casino Park is just a rip-off of it, at least they're TRYING to get away from the Heroes vibe.

I can understand why Green Hill is in it, though. I sure hope the track list for the Sonic franchise is:

Green Hill

Wacky Workbench(too bad it might be Casino Night)

Windy Valley(or Speed Highway, but since I want City Escape...)

City Escape

Crisis City(or Night Palace from SatSR)

Eggmanland(or Planet Wisp from Colors)
