Wait, can Tails lose all your rings in single player? If so, that sucks, there's no reason for that.

I though they were referring to co-op...I don't remember seeing Tails losing your rings when hit in single player

Yeah, co-op only. Tails does not run down rings nor lives. Though if he's stunned you can't activate combo moves.

On top of that, he can't lose your rings in Special Stages.

The one reason why this game is better than Sonic 2.

Well, that should make the Special Stages much less of a pain in the ass this time around, right?

What exactly is so difficult about the Ep2 Special stages?

- is it the placement of the hazards (bombs etc). So you basically have to memorise the special stages before you can master them (which is usually the norm).
- or is it that Sonic is difficult to control. Does he move too fast?

Which is the best Metal Sonic boss in Ep2?

Aye, be more careful.

What makes the Special Stage difficult is almost entirely Sonic's movement. He jumps slowly and not very high, so it's quite difficult to avoid both bombs and the little electric orbs (they stun and slow you down, but you won't lose rings). Under normal conditions he's very stiff to manoeuvre left and right. Once you adjust it's a bit easier to control him, but then the later levels include full pips with rings on the walls/ceilings. To get on to them you have to boost, which further reduces Sonic's manoeuvring capabilities. In one instance there's a corkscrew of rings going around a full-pipe. Even if you time the turning right, you can't get all the rings because Sonic's turning isn't at tight as the pattern of the rings (if that makes sense). Last little note is the combo-power up. It extends a band between Sonic and Tails and you collect whatever rings touch the band. Unfortunately, in single player Tails stays as close to Sonic as possible, which kind of nullifies the point. In co-op you can abuse it to get all the rings from left to right.

Onto the spoilers...

Spoilers aren't banned, but it's still common courtesy to keep them in tags, considering this is the screens and media topic for a game that isn't out yet, not an opinions topic.

Yes a lot of memorisation is involved, especially on the last two or three. Though it's not as bad as the classic games. At least you can see further than half a second ahead of you thanks to it being in actual 3D. It's not unreasonable to memorise.

The hardest thing is probably that the final stage REQUIRES you to use:
Spoiler

I still think the Special Stages are reasonably hard. They require mastering, and they are Nintendo Hard, but they're clearly deliberately hard. I never felt I died due to bad controls or programming.

Oh, as a final thing: you really have to teach yourself to jump earlier than you might think for bombs. Some of them really catch you out.

I will say the only dick move the final special stage pulls is:

Spoiler

Blue Blood speeded me on the Metal Sonic boss fight, buuuut I'm not cancelling what I said coz my thoughts were different lol. (As for that spiral full pipe of rings, it is possible to get the whole lot with a little luck, but even without Tails and the band between us, I was able to get the exact right momentum to follow the rings round perfectly a couple of times, so, yeah, it's possible.

Oh, and while I don't hate the Sky Fortress boss (other than that, I second Blue Blood on everything), it is a bad Metal Sonic fight in the sense it could have just have easily been Eggman.

Honestly I think I forgave the Sky Fortress boss because I really really love Metal Sonic's boss theme and it was beautifully forboding with the aesthetics of the stage.

Why doesn't the game support AA? It isn't that big of a problem, but the game would gain a huge boost in graphical quality if it supported it. I don't see why it can't support it considering the game isn't pushing consoles/PCs to their limits.

Anti-ailasing. In simple terms it's a way of making graphics look smoother in general, so you can't make out the pixels even when you look close enough.

Example from Wikipedia:

The one on the left is as-is, the one on the right is anti-ailiased.

Ah, i see...yeah you're right! Eh, it's okay i guess it's not like the graphics aren't good but i can see Autosaver's point.

If the demand for AA is high enough perhaps they'll do soemthing, but this ain't even the finished version of S4EPII PC so don't be too bogged down theres no AA options right now

I don't think you quite understand how it works. The engine doesn't support AA, and it doesn't support resolutions higher than 1280x720 (720p) either. Everything else is just upscaled. It's not in there now because it won't ever be, much like it wasn't in E1 either. E1 and E2 use the same engine.

Who is to say it wont ever be though and thats what i'm trying to say, also do you know how the engine was written to say that it dont support AA/or can't incase of a future update, just like many games i've played "Oddworld munch's oddysee" port to PC, it never had AA support, it was locked at 4:3, a few months down the line a major update was issued
