The Sonic Stadium Music Album 2011 - Official Project Site

The Sonic Stadium is proud to present it's first official community release - The Sonic Stadium Music Album 2011.

Assembled in a span of two months, 16 budding musicians on the SSMB banded together in an effort to bring out the ideas and concepts of our creative community at TSS. What was once a mere collaborative mini-album with a 15-track estimate, as envisioned by forum member and project leader VizardJeffhog, grew into an unmediated storm of tracks and tunes, something we hope will be the first of the many future community-driven projects to follow at TSS.

With 45 tracks, the album spans 4 discs with roughly 2 and a half hours of remixed Sonic music from games both well known and obscure - including some original Sonic-inspired tracks! Covering a wide variety of acoustic, electronic, rocking and atmospheric music, each artist on this album has done their best to bring out their respective visions of what the Sonic series has often been recognized and defined by - it's music.

TSS would like to extend it's Special Thanks to the following people;

VizardJeffhog for organizing, supervising and directing this project.

Ian Bennett for creating and designing the Project Site and giving this project it's spotlight within the community. Without him, the project wouldn't be what it is today!

BlitzChris for streaming this album in it's entirety from start to finish as it's final pre-reboot SS:R Show.

Revision One, Dan-imeJ86, Sean and ProfessorZolo for providing the artwork for the album.

And last but not least, every single composer and musician that contributed to all the tracks:

Wolfblur
EXshad
BlitzChris
Freen In Green
eXtaticus
DJ EAR
foreversonic
Plumegeist
Alien/Renegade
mikeblastdude
Revision One
Stereo Pixel
Gregzilla
Urban Flow

As this big feat is reaching the end of it's long and exciting production, what's next?

We can formally announce that we’re in the plans of assembling an even bigger and better album for 2012.

While we won’t dwell into the details of this future project, starting today we will be accepting contributions from other fans who wish to have their works featured for what we’re hoping can become a bigger and better album. If you are interested in being a part of this, keep an eye out on the SSMB and contact the project leader, VizardJeffhog, for album submissions and details.

For the fans, by a bunch of other fans, we have all enjoyed working this album, and we sincerely hope you enjoy this just as much as we had making it!

Alright I finally get to post this. I've been sitting on this post for weeks!

The following are my thoughts on my favorite track from each contributing musician. I'm doing it first because I'm the coolest.

AlexLP ft EXshad - Palmtree Panic
Not much of a choice since this is your only song, but it's still enjoyable. The non-guitar parts sound closer to what a Genesis version of the zone would be like, and EXshad's contributions give me some Emerald Coast vibes.

Alien/Renegade - Mechanized Carnage ~ Metal Sonic's Reign [Original]
Is it cheating if I choose A/R's original song here over the remixes? 'Cause this would be fantastic boss music, not going to lie. If Eggman Hates Furries had a boss battle with Metal Sonic, Mechanized Carnage would go with it like butter goes with bread.

BlitzChris - Melting Ivory [Ice Cap]
Your only track on the album is still a pretty good one. Very charming piano here, and you flesh it out very nicely with the extra bits. It would make for great event music in an RPG or something.

DJ EAR - Mind Body Soul [Apotos ~ Windmill Isle]
I can't believe how "long stroll on the beach"-ish this sounds, and everything about it is superb. This is what I would have wanted Sonic Rush's soundtrack sounded more like, because I think you did a great job with the vocal samples while still making the music itself incredibly strong.

EXshad - Crisis City ~ Metal Remix
Metal fits Crisis City just about perfectly. It kind of sounded like you took cues from every version of the song, too. Awesome stuff; it really sounds like you had a lot of fun with this one.

eXtaticus - Scrap Brainstorm [8-bit]
Interesting take on the theme, and the chorus is spot on. The last eight seconds were a good way to end it as well.

foreversonic - Star Light Unplugged
The acoustic style lends itself to Star Light really well here. If the original version takes place at night, then yours brings up in my mind images of the dawn of the following morning. This song never gets old, and your version is just as lovely.

Freen in Green - Mechanical Resonance [Generations Classic Style]
This song gives me a HUGE BONER. It really breathes new life into the song and I can't imagine an official remix for Generations to sound anything but like this. The guitar is just plain awesome; lovely stuff.

Gregzilla - Orange You Glad? [Sunset Park Act 3]
I listened to Triple Trouble's soundtrack for the first time the other day, and I felt like the music was severely hampered by the sound chip's limitations. You took one of the more outstanding tracks from it, and gave it the justice it deserves. Really great "running atop a moving train" song.

mikeblastdude - Atomic-Tronic [Atomic Destroyer Zone]
I don't remember the original too well, but this remix is a surprisingly upbeat take on the final zone trope. The backing music effects give off some pretty surreal and even mischievous vibes; I like this a lot.

Plumegeist - Ark Annihilator [For True Story]
I am not the biggest fan of For True Story and I think the original song sounds like a mess, but this remix blew me away. It's very intense, and the "crashes" (dunno what to call them) remind me a lot of SRA's last boss battles. The vocals are also used here very effectively. Love this to bits.

Revision One - Saliva Roof [Lava Reef]
God, this is good. I love how you briefly touch on Act 2 near the end before Act 1's piano makes a triumphant return. And the way you go crazy with the guitar in the first third of the remix just sweetens the deal.

StereoPixel - Underground Zone [Generations Modern Style]
Holy crap is this excellent. Great buildup in the beginning, and the rest of the song doesn't disappoint. It kind of reminds me of a lot of non-Sonic Genesis-era games, so it's wonderful to hear that style invoked.

Urban Flow - The Mountain Full of Ice [Ice Mountain Act 1]
The choral singing reminds me a lot of Snowman from the Mother series. It's subtly uplifting compared to the original Act 1's melancholic tone (mind, it's my favorite track from Sonic Advance), sort of like a reprise. Nice work!

VizardJeffhog - Checkered Emerald Hill [Green Hill]
This blend of various green level tropes is delicious. It feels incredibly varied despite only using piano, and each song meshes together in a very satisfying way. The sparkly piano keys starting at 2:13 are a nice touch.

Wilderness - The Boss [Genesis]
I was pleasantly surprised by this remix's very soft tone, and I love that you used the S&K Act 1 boss as the chorus. I think it's hilariously awesome that the Sonic 2 final boss theme is the most mellow of them all. Great demonstration of using simplistic arrangement in a positive way.

Wolfblur - Building the Empire [Scrap Brain]
Dude, you seriously outdid yourself with this song. Listening to the original did help me appreciate it more, but even on its own, this remix really gets you pumped like nothing else. Death Egg's Eye made me go "aw fuck yeah!" too, and I'm starting to associate a lot of tunes from Fighters with you now.

I'm only getting a sample of each song until it's downloaded, skipping through each one a bit to see what they sound like, but so far I love it. Already I can tell this is going to be the best Fan Remix album, for me at least. OCRemix's albums never really sat well with me outside of a couple tracks, so this seems like a godsend.

I'll edit this with more complete thoughts once I've gave it a full listen.

Sweet!!

I'm already ready to toss my name into the hat for the 2012 edition. I'm gonna do some research into how creating remix music goes, because they are several Sonic tracks I would love to play around with. Posted Image

I also need to learn to draw better...that cover is freakin' awesome! 0_0

:'3 Awh thanks Sean! Everyone involved here is a badass and they should know it. I'm a huge fan of Gregzilla's "Orange You Glad?", by the way. I didn't even know I knew that song until the stream happened and I was like "WAIT I KNOW THIS!" and then my mind was blown! My other favorites are Wolfblur's "Fire and Ice" and "Building the Empire", R-1's "Saliva Roof" and "Competition Redux", all of Foreversonic's unplugged remixes, ... y'know, I think I pretty much just like all of it xD I realized I was just saying everyone's names and songs, LOL

TL:DR; YOU ALL ROCK.

EDIT: Goku, why not try just downloading the whole album? =O There's a download link on the lower left. You could delete what you don't want after that (Though why you would not want someone's songs would be beyond me; they're all epic <3)

Hell yeah it's release time! It was great being a part of this project, and I've really enjoyed all of the feedback and community interaction from this album throughout the months. I think everyone did a fantastic job! I absolutely love every single track from this and everyone should be very proud of themselves. If I had to choose a top three though, I'd go with Revision One's "Saliva Roof", Plumegeist's "Ark Annihilator", and Wolfblur's "Building the Empire"; those tracks are just beyond amazing. I might copy Sean's idea and go through my favorites from every other artist, but I'm far too lazy to do that at the moment. XD

Again, great work everyone!

Holy hell, I'm feeling so incredibly bubbly today...! XD The album is finally released to the public!

Seriously, a massive thank you to everyone behind the project. I never thought we would've gotten this far, but it's thanks to every contribution we've got! Thanks to all of the musicians involved. Apti, thank the rest of Freen in Green for participating for me.

TSS Staff, thank you for helping us and enlarging the spotlight on this. I'm glad to have kickstarted a massive community project such as this, and I'm proud that others are following!

bmn, for the site, I could just kiss you.

That being said, like Carbo stated, if you guys want to talk about TSSMA'12 already, let me know! My inbox is always open!

Also, to not give you guys an idea, Aptiva/FiG and I are totally not making a dual Rooftop Run remix for the next album. There's no way Apti's unawesome arrangement skills with my piano untalents will ever be combined to rearrange such an unamazing piece of music.

Just saying.

You know, for a moment I was confused while reading this is the "2011 album", I thought this was another of many traditions this board has that I've been missing out (at least from listening, since I posses no talent whatsoever).

Sort of glad to hear this is actually the first one, and even happier to know this will continue in the next year.

We tried to get rid of it, but couldn't. Rainbows keep regenerating themselves. You'll have to fend off the rainbows some other way!

Man, to say that I am impressed with this album would be an understatement. This is some fantastic collaboration, guys. It really reminds me of the talent that we have in our community here. I'm just sorry that I had no role to really play in this - just sitting away from the whole thing while it took shape. But the fact that you guys all went and worked together in community spirit means an awful lot - it's amazing, the kind of stuff that can happen when we all work together.

Congratulations and special thanks to all the remixers and artists who have worked so hard on this album. Especially Vizard for kick-starting the project (seriously, massively impressed) and Carbo for his help as moderator in keeping the dream alive through to release. You should all be incredibly proud of yourselves. I dare say this is the sort of thing that rivals the stuff OCR crack out. ^_^

I love all the tracks, obviously, but my favourites have to be:
The Blue Blur - Such a great intro track, covering all the generations of Sonic.
Endless Mine (1000 Miles) - Seriously, that crossover blew my mind a little bit
Interlude - No Quarter - Holy shit Carbo, make this a full remix with all the Spinball stages mixed in please!
Underground Zone (Generations Modern Style) - Huge fan of Sonic 2 GG, and this has a wicked rhythm.
Burning Ghetto - Really hard to do a remix of a track like this, massive kudos.
The Mountain Full of Ice - <3 Ice Mountain, and DAT CHORUS
Orange You Glad? - For obvious reasons.
Mechanical Resonance (Generations Classic Style) - I think Jun would love this remix.
Atomic-Tronic - One of the most underrated final stages in Sonic history, and a great track.
We Fear The Light - I mean, Jesus Christ. The build up and techno escalation of this is amazing.
Ark Annihilator - This belongs in a dance club. Fact.
