Starting April 1st, theres a new CCO in town: Toshihiro Nagoshi. SEGA Sammy has announced that starting in April a bit of corporate reshuffling will go into effect, due to the retirement of some of SEGA’s higher ups. Naoya Tsurumi takes over the President and Chief Operating Officer role from the retiring Okitane Usu. Toshihiro Nagoshi, creator of Yakuza and producer of the recently released Binary Domain, will fill a newly formed Chief Creative Officer position. All I can say is that this is some great news! I know nothing about Naoya Tsurumi, but Nagoshi in a CCO role? Very cool. Always a good thing to see a talented person in a high level creative position.

Great to see a man of talent rising in the ranks. Wonder how this will affect Sonic Team, if at all. Sort of reminds me of when John Lasseter became CCO for Disney and Pixar. This role can only mean good things for SEGA.

For those wondering, Nagoshi's resume:

Does this mean next Sonic game could have a giant, real life GUN truck as publicity?

EDIT: I'm actually curious, how does this affect Ryu Ga Gotoku studio and other franchises? As much as I would love it I'm not sure he would have so much influence over the rest of the SEGA franchises.

I'm a bit saddened by this, all our experience with Japanese games people rising the ranks points to the fact he'll now be stuck with paperwork and not be able to do the stuff he likes. Here's hoping I'm wrong.

Cool! Here's hoping (If he affects Sonic) he continues the rising quality of the Sonic series and does not start dropping it with stupid decisions........

Shenmue (1999) — Supervisor (Sega AM4)

Clearly, the man can do no wrong. Just look at DAT RESUME.

On a more serious note, this would be pretty cool... if I knew what a CCO even does.

His credits seem to be mostly direction and coordination roles, so as far as high-tier bureaucratic positions go, Chief Creative Officer hardly sounds constraining. If anything, it's actually analogous to Shigeru Miyamoto's position at Nintendo.

He'll still fulfill his normal duties, so those thinking he'll be ripped from creating games can rest easy.
