This a real shame, personally I found the Monkees to be highly underrated as far as commerical 60's pop music goes.

My parents loved them and got a chance to see them last year in concert.

Aww man..and to be fair, 66 is a pretty young age, he still had a few more years to go. He was a great musician for a great and.. surprisingly overlooked band of the 60s. Most people only know them for their hit of "I'm a Believer", despite them having other great pieces of music.

In any case, may he rest in peace. There are people out there who were huge fans, so I know he was definitely able to bring happiness and inspiration to many people everywhere.

I knew who Davey Jones was, didn't really know much of the Monkees songs... My parents seemed to know a lot about him, but I still don't know if they were fans or not.

Still a shame...

I was watching him on the TV the other day talking about what it was like being a part of The Monkees so it's weird to then hear a few days later that he's died. It is very sad and I actually quite like The Monkees in a cheesy 60's pop kind of way.

Aw, my parents were big fans of the Monkees, especially my dad who owns a best of album of theirs.

I'm surprised other people don't recall their other big hit, 'Daydream Believer'.
