Hey, everyone, how is it going? I've just registered and I found this place to be an awesome place filled with awesome, energetic and cheerful people.

I'm also looking for some feedback in my fan art.

The page where I post most of my crap is this: http://davethesodaguy.deviantart.com/

So.. without further ado, here it is, don't forget to criticize it, do not feel sorry for me!

I gotta say the art style is pretty cool, even though it took me a bit to get used to it.

Hey man! Welcome to SSMB!

Gotta say, I really like your art, it's got a very fresh and unique style to it.

It's refreshing, and I hope to see more! I love the sort of "sketchy" looking sort of outlines everything has, it has a lot of effort put in, and the expressions are well done, and well, expressive! The backgrounds are well done too, and I like the "twistedness" it's got going for it.

It's very cool, and very unique. Good work!

Okay! Crit time.

You could really use cleaning up on those lines, they're rather messy. While I think sketchy looks are super rad, I think this can kind of creep into the sloppy territory. It's a fine line to walk really.

The colouring also needs to be way better. There is a lot going out of the lines and a lot of little white spots here and there. It doesn't look very appealing.

But now to the comic art - the panel layout is boring and generic and why are the gutters so huge? The panels don't flow and there is a lot of empty space that the artwork can use to breath. Take a look at some comic books and see how they've layed out their panels. It will do a lot of good in analyzing where you're kind of going wrong there. Not to say there isnt room for experimentation but you have a lot of wasted space on each page and its jarring. It also makes it harder to figure out just where the eye should be looking next. You want to try and guide the viewers eye through the page!

To me it looks like the panels were drawn first and simply imported onto the comic page after. The first few panels looked almost dragged out horizontally and that they are squished in the panel.

The speech bubbles also need a lot of work. They are pretty sloppy.

---

Now, that being said I do think you have a quirky art style. It just needs a lot of refinement here. Keep going!

Hey, welcome to the SSMB!

Wow, that is a funky art style you got going for yourself there. I can really see the personal touch of flair you add to your work. Its very distinctive and raw.

If your looking for feedback…. A lot of the people around here have been at this game a lot longer than I have, but I can share a couple of the things I’ve learned drawing here and there.

First off, what medium to you work with? If I could hazard a guess….. it almost looks like a combination of markers and digital coloring. If that would be the case, the first thing I would recommend you do it experiment with different properties. You seem to have a preference to the bold outlines that thick tools provide, so I would recommend that you step outside of your comfort zone a bit and try new things every now and then.

As for the comic, I’d hazard from constraining your art with all rectangle and square panels. Its nice to keep things neat and organized, but action and emotion cannot always be contained. Every once and awhile, break up the tempo with abstract shapes and cutouts! By striking a healthy balance between conventional and non-conventional, you can make the most out of empty space and control your medium.

I hope that was helpful.

Very awesome artstyle. The way you draw buildings is the same as how I draw them, haha. Very curvy and stylized. Love it. :)

wow, I just didn't expect that much feedback.

I've never been able to get so much constructive criticism at once, I think this place will be my new home, lol.

Thanks a lot, guys! I'll take everything into consideration.

And Sega Dog Tagz, I use photoshop and photoshop only.

Meh, I was still half right.

Either way, more power to you in your future endeavors.
