Old stock in stores

Straight to the point: have you ever come across some absurd item that shouldn't still be sold, let alone be in stock at a store?

Pictures are allowed if you have any. :U

Theres a store in Hull called Kapow that has recently started to sell mint condition teenage mutant Ninja turtles merchandise. All dated 80's and 90's. I used to own some of it myself infact, all official and all boxed as new. Really strange seeing it all.

I don't believe so.

Unless those old Kenner Star Wars figures I saw at Disney weren't actually reproductions...

Yes. I recently saw at my walmart a GBA Digimon games and 3 Playstation 1 Basketball games. That have probably been in stock but never sold, since the last 90's. I was pretty impressed that such things still existed in stores.

That reminds me!

My local K-Mart still has a bunch of unsold GBA games! Sealed, too!

Too bad they're all shovelware and compliations.

5 years ago I found an old Prince single from 1990. A year before I was born. it wa still in its shrink wrapping in Best Buy when I was in America. Apart from that nothing else comes to mind.

Bargin stores tend to have old stock of toys.smile.png

A few years back, for shits and giggles, I did a price grabber search for Voodoo 2's and found that some random web store still had a few in stock. Unless they went out of business or just threw them away, they're probably still there. Old video cards that were high end when they came out are typically poor choices, they consume more power, are larger, and make more noise than modern lower end offerings with similar specs.

There's a shop in my local area that is dedicated to old video games. So far I've seen games for

  • Master System
  • Mega Drive
  • Saturn
  • Dreamcast
  • Xbox
  • SNES
  • NES
  • PS1
  • PS2
  • And a Sonic Underground DVD would you believe?

I see Dreamcasts all the time at stores. I wonder how long they've been holding on to it, and why.

I remember back in the day... there was stores called Caldor and Bradlees. I only remember back in the 1990's... but these are old old department stores, well before Target, Walmart and even K-Mart. I would see old stuff from the 1980's in those stores. It was pretty weird. I didn't know at the time, but looking back... there was extremely old stuff that shouldn't have been there. For more info on Caldor... click here

I once saw a Nirvana bootleg for sale at Caldor. Not exactly out of stock.... I didn't know it was until I researched it later. That was something that shouldn't have been there.

There used to be a video game store near me called Video Game Swap USA that wold sell old consoles, video games, and imports. Unfortunately, the place closed up, and I haven't seen a store like that since.

That's a store I'd love to see since I'm a big fan of the classic turtles. How much did the items go for?

My Wal-Mart still carries GBA games, with crushed boxes. But, the only ones I find are the ones based on cartoons.

I found a copy of Crazy Taxi for Dreamcast just the other day at the bottom of the bargin bin.

I know there are specialty stores dedicated to these kinds of things which are sometimes titled "discount warehouses." I've found loads of retro items at these retailers including Beetlejuice action figures, Bart Simpson folders and Mario toothbrushes.

Just steer clear of their grocery isle, though.

Also this short documentary is relevant to this topic.

Yes, for the record most of them do smell like piss.

A couple of years ago when I was in America, one of the big superstores (I forget which) had a sealed copy of Drill Dozer for the GBA. You'd better believe that was snapped up.

I just remembered that back in 2009 I found a new copy of the PC version of Sonic Heroes for $4.00. at a Gamestop in Dallas.
