At its last investor's presentation in January, Nintendo announced it was working on a new 2D Mario adventure game. Outside of a release date prior to April 2013, no further details were given by company president Satoru Iwata. However just days ago, Nintendo registered a domain for 'supermario4.com'.

The publisher isn't attempting to hide this registry. A quick search shows that Nintendo of America controls the domain, and typing in the address will actually redirect to Nintendo's website. It's important to keep in mind that the registry doesn't directly indicate the presence of a product - companies tie up URLs all the time - but it could mean something.

Of course, while our immediate suspicions point towards this being the 2D 3DS game, it could be something else entirely - a Wii U launch title, perhaps?

Super Mario Bros 4: Episode 1 coming to a Wii U e Shop DOWNLOAD 2013!!! This is Super Mario 4, as you truly imagined it .

Beaten down Sonic 4 jokes aside I'm expecting a New Super Mario Wii styled game to come out which I'm quite excited if this real because I enjoy the 2D (newer 2D anyway) Mario Games and Super Mario Bros 4 would be quite sweet... Playable Princess Peach anyone ? Posted Image

Well, when I first heard about this, I wasn't sure what to think. Could it be that 2D Sidescroller for the 3DS?

But then I realized that Super Mario World was actually Super Mario Bros. 4.

They could just be covering their bases.

and i can't believe it took ign this long to post the news

i mean, daaaaaaaaaaaaayumn

Super Mario World = Super Mario 4(It was explicitly called Super mario 4 in Japan)
New Super Mario Bros DS = Super Mario 5
New Super Mario Bros Wii = Super Mario 6
Super Mario 3d Land = Super Mario 7

That's the point. They registered "Super Mario 4," not "Super Mario Bros. 4."

Nintendo registers names all the time, so I don't know what to make of it. I know Nintendo have several Pokemon tag names on reserve, like "Pokemon: Moonshine." I think they also registered "Black" and "White" years before those games came out.

So it may just be for copyright services. Registering the domain name on the other hand....kinda suspicious.

Uhh, look at the sonic series. When refering to them I hardly ever see anyone go out of their way to write The Hedeghog before any numbered sequel.

It doesn't matter. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is simple just known as Sonic 4

Sonic 4 is just a shortened title, its full name still is Sonic the Hedgehog 4, Sega registered sonicthehedgehog4.com as a website, not sonic4.com.

I just think it would be weird to release a Super Mario 4 under that title, it seems really unlikely. It's like making a fourth Kirby's Dreamland game and just name it Kirby 4, or a new Donkey Kong Country game without even mentioning "Country" in the title, it just makes no sense.

"Pokemon: Moonshine."

Moonshine??
I don't know why I know this, but isn't that a slang term for drugs? ...I could be wrong though...

Moonshine is a kind of alcoholic drink brewed down south in the USA. It is illegal to make.

That being said, can't wait for the inevitable Luigi beard.

Still at the end of the day Nintendo does stuff like this so no one else can come up and claim that those domains. GoNintendo usually at times posts a summary of different domain names that are picked up by Nintendo, most if not all domains go back to their main site.

Super Mario World was originally called Super Mario Bros. 4; the name can even be found in the Japanese booklets.

Assuming this does mean another Mario game is coming out with this name, maybe Nintendo registered "Super Mario 4" in order to maintain a thematic structure, and in order to prevent confusion between the two titles. Just like how Sonic the Hedgehog 4 was a major cash cow thanks to just its name, Super Mario 4 will likely bring out just as much bank.

It's already been done as far as Japan is concerned.

A fun thing to do would be to have someone ask Nintendo about Super Mario 4. If they say they can't comment on rumors, the person could show the registering of the name, then it wouldn't be a rumor

Who cares if 4 was already done in japan?

As long as it's not another "New" style Mario bros 2d game, I'm in. My heart aches for another "World" styled game, but we all know that'll never happen.

Speaking of which, at least I can look forward to one of the two games this year that won't be mediocre and bad with the number 4 in it..

In case that wadn't obvious as fuck, I'm referring to Sonic 4.

Could this be possibly related to that untitled Mario Game for the 3DS a couple of months back? Good because I would be dreading another 3D Land.
