And I would agree with you, but why complain about it.

I'm not, all I said was it was a shitty reward.

Just because it isn't Nintendo hearing people out doesn't mean that it isn't worthwhile voicing your opinion, if someone wishes to articulate something and they have legitimate reasons to express them, then why shouldn't they?

Super Mario World changed the season as well, and the overall aesthetics. Luigi's Mansion granted you a Hard Mode, and people should complain in order to voice their opinion, so you're saying if they have a reaction to it they shouldn't voice it? I agree that people shouldn't of expected too grand of a reward. You do realize though that they marketed that you should have the incentive to collect all 1 million coins. When you realize it's merely a statue after all that sensationalism created by Nintendo, wouldn't you be a little mad?

Yeah your right. And I'm glad that I saw this now. So when I play the game it won't be that much of a disappointment. But lets be honest. It great that we voice our opinions but look at how much the game has sold in Japan already. They aren't going to listen to voices. Look at Operation rainfalls efforts, Nintendo's reaction to it was that they weren't influenced by them. They will not listen.

As a matter of fact I will be keeping a close eye on how they approach DLC. Supposedly they will listen to the input of fans. Let see how much of our opinions they take to heart.

I am truly laughing my ass off. Not because of the reward. But everyones reaction to it. Come on now what the fuck were you guy really expecting. Hasn't playing Mario games in the past not taught you anything.
World had the enemies change shape.

Wario land give you a house depending on the cash.
Luigi's mansion is worst with the reward. It a picture.

I kind of guessed it when first playthrough was posted. cuz some coins appeared on the title screen along with the total. I feel really bad for those of you who where expecting something different. And if your going to come at me for criticizing your reaction, or that I seem to not want better for the series. then go ahead, cuz at the end of the day, Nintendo will not care cuz this series is a gold mine.

Considering that not only did the World developers go through the trouble of changing almost all the enemy sprites, along with giving the overworld a new autumn theme, I'd say beating all the stages is a good reward for that.

Didn't play Wario Land yet, but for Luigi's Mansion the pictures at the end were just optional and if you wanted to, you could go back through the (incredibly short) game and get a better house. The "reward" of that game was saving Mario, the extra house at the end was just a little something special. Also Hard mode.

NSMB2, however they keep advertising that the main goal of the game is to "collect a million coins", that we'd get a reward for all of our hard work. A reward is "A satisfying return or result; profit." We work our asses off, spending hours and hours of playing the same levels again just to strive for the reward when it's just a title screen change.

It was mentioned before in this topic that it was a gold statue, the japanese site said something about a gold statue. But nobody knew what is was going to do, so people got hyped. To say "did you people honestly expect something good?" when Nintendo themselves were hyping it up, is a little erroneous. People will get hyped over anything, and while you could say we we're hyped over nothing, remember that they said this was one of the main goals. The reason to replay this game over and over again until you reached it. And, it's just a title change. People have a right to complain about this, just like how fans have a right to complain about anything. We as Sonic fans should know this.

He's got a point. Why did anyone expect any effort? Remember: New Super Mario Bros. It should be no surprise that they didn't care.

They do care

Spoiler

But even with the assets and re-used stuff in Wii, and looking at NSMBU. This honestly looks like the most lazy thing Nintendo's ever done. I mean damn, they even re-used (or re-hased) all of the music. And it's probably gonna be known as the worst Mario game because of it from now on, because of lack of originality. It's the Lost Levels of the NSMB series, only 50X easier and 2X less original.

It's pretty lazy, but I wouldn't call it less original than Lost Levels/SMB2, which was just SMB Hard Mode.

Compared to NSMB2 which has introduced many new staples to the series such as:

Dry Goombas, Dry Piranha Plants
Gold Block and Gold Flower.

Kotaku Review is in: http://kotaku.com/59...not-a-bad-thing

Make no mistake, New Super Mario Bros. 2 is a 2D side-scrolling Mario game. There are new power-ups, levels, enemies, and gameplay modes; but at its core, it's the same Mario experience you've had again and again since the NES. If you are looking for a new take on Mario, you'll be better off playing last year's Super Mario 3D Land. If, on the other hand, you are looking to relive the glory days of the NES with a re-imagining of Mario 3, this will certainly be a game you'll enjoy.

There's a difference though.

You beat SMW 100% ONCE and get that reward.
You beat Luigis Mansion 100% ONCE and get that reward.
In NSMB 2, you beat the SAME. FUCKING. LEVELS. over and over and OVER again, just to get a reward like THIS. That's just tedious and unacceptable for such a bullshit reward. If you design a game that basically forces us through the same levels over and over again to fully complete it, at least give us a reward that is worth all this trouble we had to go through!

One guy did a playthrough and had like 130 000 coins when he reached the Final Boss. Now let's pretend every average gamer has a coin count like this. Imagine the pain they have to go through to finally reach the 1 Million coin goal, and imagine how disappointing that will be. Its not the reward itself that makes me angry, but the stuff Nintendo makes us go through to get it.

Plus, Nintendo didn't say "If you beat SMW 100%, you get an reward!" or "If you get an A Rank in Luigi's Mansion, something special will happen!". This time, they advertise this stupid 1 Million coin goal like it would be something awesome, like it would give us a good reward for once, but no, they give us a title screen. That rumored shoe would've been a better reward!

The what the fuck were you expecting as a reward. I'm not defending the piece of shit, but really what could have they done to justify to you the reason to pull that fucking feat off.

If I may bring up this article from a few weeks ago,

http://gonintendo.co...story&id=180490

“It’s not a ‘gimmick,’ it’s the jackpot. That’s what it is, no doubt; you are collecting coins like crazy in that game. It’s insane how many coins you’re going to collect; the amount of 1UPs you’re going to get are going to help you, yes, but it’s like hitting the jackpot because there’s coins everywhere. And Gold Mario is able to throw gold fireballs, which allow you to gold everything else.

There’s basically every single opportunity to get coins that you could possibly think of, and you want to get them all… there actually is purpose to collecting all those coins, and I’m not going to tell you what it is, but there’s purpose, and you want to collect as many as you can." - Nintendo of Canada's Matt Ryan

When asked if the reward for collecting enough coins was a small bonus like a star next to your player profile, Mr. Ryan responded with the following.

“I don’t think that we would tease if it didn’t actually mean something.”

They shouldn't have advertised the stupid 1,000,000 coins thing to begin with if this was all they were planning on rewarding you with. Its the marketing that's pissing me off more than anything.

well that might have been acceptable to you. But like everyone's reaction to this they would have said the same. " All this work and our reward was a new world and playing as a slow fatter version of Mario". That's what I'm getting at. Ni

Your right. Its the marketing's fault, Nintendoga's post shows the screw up that marketing guy did. They could have just said your new mission is to collect 1,000,000 coins and I don't know maybe have peach's castle destroyed and the money goes to fixing the castle.

What they should have done is go the very way Luigi's Mansion did. Not just in achieving greater ranks based on skill at collecting money, but getting ranks by employing that same skill to avoid money.

You want a challenge in this game? Go through the game, getting as little coins as you possibly can. Get a reward for having exactly "0000000" coins at the title screen upon completion of the game, and see what happens. That would have hyped me up.

It's disappointing because this million coin goal was one of the first times that a Mario game really had a defined objective other than "clear the levels, rescue Peach". They've tried to sell the main coin gimmick, and then they give us a reward like that? Jeez...

No. I really wanted this game so much that I'm getting a 3DS for it, but this is not much of a reward compared to what Nintendo are boasting about. Indeed I didn't know what the expect, and I didn't expect this. The fake Golden Kuribo's shoe would be shitty also, because like all Kuribo's shoes, they are awkward in making long jumps. Playing it on some ROM hacks I found myself scared trying to make a jump because everytime you move left or right you bounce, and liable to miss the jumping point and fall down a pit.

No, the title screen wouldn't be alright if the coin gimmick wasn't so played up. I can understand people gettig upset about it. It happened on Sonic Stadium quite recently for being hyped up and then let down.

*sigh* I really wanted it, but not for the reward. I still can't get enough of 2D sidescrolling Mario platforming. As disappointed as I am to know what this treasured reward is, I didn't consider it as a selling point for me. I'm still going to buy it, regardless of how much of a knob I will be in doing so.

I don't think we are getting the full picture here yet.

I want to know when you reload your file if the million coins have an affect on the game overall? I find it strange that the video cuts off before the player loads their file. What if it is alluding more than a new title screen? What about if your million coin collection status contributes only to available DLC in the future?
