Sonic World Runner is a 3D Sonic fan-game being made in Unreal Engine 3. Being created by Team Freerunner (a group of dedicated and talented Sonic fans), this game incorporates momentum-based gameplay, an art style inspired by the "latter-1990s" era of Sonic, and an expansive storyline, giving a massive sense of adventure and game progression.

The game began in 2010 under the name of "Project: FreeRunner", and then later "Sonic Freerunner", and was originally intended to be a classic-styled open world / parkour based Sonic game made in a modified version of the Blitz Sonic engine. However, as time went on, the project continuously evolved, changed into something better, and dropped ideas too ambitious or vague (such as the open world concepts and parkour mechanics). However, these were for the better, as this gives room to bring the project back in the public with a new and defined direction, and a fresh canvas.

So, what's the story on this game?

Story:
Massive natural disasters are rumbling the planet and causing all sorts of chaos all over. The humans, anthros, and animals of Earth alike are all trembling in fear, clamoring at the idea that the end of the world is near.

Suddenly, Dr. Eggman appears. Telling the populace of the planet about how he was researching previously-unfound tablets and found statements of the end of the world, he realized that the eve of its destruction was not far away. Within this time, he had an epiphany that has led him to realize the good in the planet and all of it's living creatures; and has turned over a new leaf! So to the surprise of Earth's population, Eggman announces that for the past couple of months he's been building a new haven for everyone: the 100% purely artifical (and 'disaster-proof') planet in the far end of the galaxy: "Planet Egg".

Everyone is absolutely amazed at the recent turn of events. All, except Sonic of course. Not falling once for his facade, Sonic warns the people about this being another one of his tricks.. but in the grave state of danger, the people don't believe one word from Sonic, blaming it on his hardened antagonism role against the once-mad-scientist-now-world-hero.

But is Eggman really the great guy that he's currently making himself out to be? What exactly is he really planning out there on Planet Egg?

With the help of his buddy Tails (and later Knuckles), Sonic must find out the truth behind all these worldly disasters before Eggman reels the people of Earth into his own plans.

The Stages:
Cascade Grove Zone
Alpine Eruption Zone
Bumper Boulevard Zone
Floral Springs Zone
Deserted Ridge Zone
Windy Ruins Zone
Transit Metropolis Zone
???????

Additional information:
- This game features gameplay very similar to a 3D interpretation of the classic Sonic games, with momentum based gameplay and the like; although it takes some notes from SA1's controls as well. The game is being made in Unreal Engine 3, using Xaklse's "SonicGDK" engine as a base.

- Level design is very much like putting the classics and SA1 in a blender while sprinkling it with some Sonic Robo Blast 2: lots of space to breathe, alternate routes, tons of gimmicks, terrain built around slopes and loops working together in harmony forever and ever~

- The aesthetic and atmosphere to this game is highly influenced by 90s-era 'Segasonic', Sonic the Hedgehog OVA, Sonic Adventure, and Sonic Unleashed. These influences can be easily found in everything from the designs, to the sense of story progression. These things are also a major influence to the music style as well.

So yes, Sonic Freerunner World Runner isn't dead. In fact, it's back and with a brand new visionary! =D

Keep watching this topic for updates in the future. We're not going to release all of our current assets (such as concept art, music, and screenshots) as legitimate updates on the spot, but please don't believe that we're doing this "trickle-down" style. We're literally gonna be posting real updates as they come. So yes, keep watch on this topic!

(And also, anyone who is good at 3D modeling, or using UDK, please contact us immediately. We may need some people experienced within those fields. But just to let you know ahead of time, here's this post I made later in the topic:

Putting down the law here.

To anyone besides 3D modelers or programmers: sorry all, we don't have any openings for anyone of any of your skillsets at the moment. We got all that down. To anyone of the other categories (modeling and programming): I'll contact you about it. We cool? We cool.

I want to show awesome stuff about the game here, not have this turn into a request-of-approval topic. To everyone interested, stay tuned!

Thank you.)

Man, can't wait for this! This looks awesome!

On a side note/nitpick, "Sonic Worldrunner", does not flow when you say it as well as Freerunner did. Even if you are ditching the parkour mechanics, I still think Freerunner is the better and catchier name, TBH.

I must say I agree, but it no longer makes sense...

...originally intended to be a classic-styled open world (free roam)...

Even if there's no actual open world or parkour mechanics, doesn't Sonic run free throughout all the levels?

orite, that thing! I'm bombarded with finals at the moment (which I should probably be working on :v), but come May 2nd that should be all over and done with and I'll have some time to actually sit down and work on that thing attentively.

Also last minute rewrite, Egg Pawn is the main character and Hatsun the Pigeon was the one behind Royal Guard Gordon the Koala's assassination all along.

Is there anything that you have to show us. Concept art/pre-production stage designs?
It would help us see where this fangame is going.

We have an organized Dropbox folder with a bunch of concept stuff. I'm sure some stuff will be shown soon enough.

Other than that I can post some of the music if you'd like to.

Cool, it's like a mixture between Speed Highway and Stardust Speedway (JP version)!
