'Call of Duty' reveal next week: 'Black Ops 2' to be announced?
Published Monday, Apr 23 2012, 11:07 BST | By Liam Martin |

Call of Duty's upcoming instalment will be unveiled next week, Activision has confirmed.

Widely expected to be a follow-up to Call of Duty: Black Ops, the game will be shown during the ad breaks of a basketball playoff match on May 1.

The official Call of Duty website, meanwhile, is counting down to the reveal by releasing a series of fuzzy images, depicting what appears to be scenes from the game.

New "classified" images will be unscrambled on a daily basis, although there remains a number of pictures without dates attached.

The promotional style is similar to a poster that was discovered last week, which fits in with the Black Ops theme.

The poster contained the phrase: "Return For Debriefing", which suggests that the game will be a sequel.

Earlier this year, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 briefly appeared on Amazon's French site. Activision claims that the next release will contain "meaningful innovations".

A leaked report detailing new multiplayer modes, perk systems and the game's release date was discovered last month. The title is said to launch on November 6.

The game's concluding act was recently voted the greatest ending of all time by Guinness World Records readers.

Can't wait to see the big reveal. I hope it is Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 because I really enjoyed the first one. The campaign plot was fresh and interesting.

Same here, I really enjoyed Black Ops especially the story and the selection of weapons was also awesome in my opinion, Modern Warfare 3 campaign really suffered from a "AK-47 fetish". Posted Image

Also Zombies! Posted Image

The faded image in the background of that teaser to me looks like a hint that it's a Black Ops 2 as that image looks very reminiscent of the Black Ops boxart.

Anyway, never been interested in Call of Duty, only played it a few times at friend's houses, I won't be looking for info on this but no doubt it'll be everywhere. Personally I wonder how long the CoD train will run before it de-rails.

Well since its the same team who did black ops, I'm almost sure that if its not a direct sequel it will be very close in feel.

I just hope the other team leave modern warfare and start making something new.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if Activision ended up killing CoD by just putting too many games out there in a short time like Guitar Hero, though it's also likely that they learned from that and want to separate games by at least a little time.

I was extremely wary of Black Ops when I first bought it and stuck it in my disc tray, but I came out of the experience a fan of Treyarch's sterling efforts. I really didn't care for the zombie mode shit, and never got into the online portion, but the singleplayer just captivated me and I can't bloody wait for the next installment. I know, I know, it's an extremely predictable series, and a sequel was pre-ordained from the moment the game was announced (well, pretty much), but I really do enjoy the games, and that's the underlying point of them so... fuck yeah, BO2.

Not really, it seemed to wrap itself up quite nicely (for once!), but when you look through the game's primitive 1960s "e-mail" inbox, you start to gather the suspicion that events unfolded around the surviving main characters after the game's main events. We don't know what happened, though we do have an idea of where* it'll either all kick off or end dramatically, and when. It definitely hints at a sequel.

I really doubt this because Infinity Ward and Treyarch will tell Activation to fuck off for overworking them also Activation seem to prefer to milk the udders that is DLC.Posted Image

That little drone is also clearly visible in the first reveal image on the CoD website:

Wait, what? Futuristic? That isn't at all what I was expecting after reading through that stuff at the end of BO1.

.....Or Future Warfare...?

I'm really sad at how Activision handled the "Modern Warefare" series. CoD4 set the benchmark in my opinion for First Person Military shooters, both for single player and online multiplayer. 4's story was so engaging and the characters were so well crafted (the latter being the only reason I extracted an element of enjoyment out of MW2's plot).
Black Ops came really close to CoD4 in terms of Single Player (multiplayer was trying a little too hard and didn't quite work as well). The story, while being a little less realistic, was set up well and unlike Modern Warfare 2 it didn't have any pretense of being "realistic" and just felt much more compelling as a result.

I really hope this new Treyarch installment picks up where Black Ops left off, at least in terms of writing a compelling narrative/single player campaign and take it a notch further. Multiplayer too, I hope is improved. Black Ops wasn't perfect, but it certainly wasn't the best.

But Modern Warfare is set in the near future. I mean how futuristic do they want to go? Just seems so run of the mill.Posted Image

Its Black Ops, cloak and dagger and all that shit, it just seems to work better in the Cold War era. I don't know.Posted Image

I miss Nam' too nothing like shooting Vietcong libs off with a 12 gauge with incendiary rounds.Posted Image

What I liked about the past two Treyarch COD's was that they were historic though not 100% accurate (especially Black Ops) they made feel 'apart' of the action.

EDIT: Why do I get the feeling the next game will involve North Korea or China? Posted Image

However far in the future they want to go. Its up to them what they make. As long as they make it well and the story mode is compelling, I have no problems at all with wherever it is they set it.

That's just a preconception. The future can also have Cloak and Dagger type Warfare too. In fact I'd say that its more inclined to that style. In the past you'd have two armies quite literally facing off head-to-head WW1 trench-style. Nowadays and presumably in the future too, we have smaller covert/special-ops units sneaking around as well as the standard stereotype tanks and howitzers.
