I thought to make a thread around the main cartoon networks (pun not intended), and the ratings they get. See your favorite networks duke it out in my weekly synopsis, taken from, "Cynopsis Kids.
  • HHs: The estimated number of television households in the U.S..
  • LIVE+SD: Those who watched the show the day it aired. Whether live or DVR’d.
  • LIVE+7: See LIVE+SD, but make it 7 days.
  • PERS 2+: Estimated # of viewers over the age of 2 in the U.S..
  • RATING #: 1 point = 1% of the estimated Nielsen universe.
In the case of the broadcast networks: Getting a 1.0 is good, for them because of the small viewership.

For Nickelodeon: For the past few years Nick has been getting 4s and 5s. So getting anything less than that is pretty bad. Recently however, that's become very common on the Network due to the repetition of the schedule.

Disney Channel: They usually get high 3s and 4s, but they've been getting higher lately.

Cartoon Network: They've been pretty low lately, around the 1 range. However, they've been getting better. The high numbers for them are 1.8-2s.

Disney XD: Lower than CN, but higher than the broadcast networks. </p>

Let's start this thread with our broadcast networks:

I'd been thinking of starting a similar thread for the box office. I think it's a potentially interesting discussion about how media performs and competes when released, all of the factors that go into that, and what certain performances will mean for future trends in film-making. But this topic is confusing, mostly on account of I've never actually bothered to learn how to read TV ratings.

Sorry but, what are we actually discussing here?

Yeah, I shoud've written that. It's mostly a discussion on how the particular shows or networks you like are doing in the rating department. Say in the case of Avatar, if you want the show to get good ratings, and if it isn't then you can discuss why it's failing.

Also, let me help with reading these ratings:

Ok, let's think of it like this:

When the numbers are listed right next to their shows, they will usually range from 1.0 to 5.0. (Higher than that can be good, but it's rare on these channels.)

All you really need to know is what numbers are good where.

For placed like Toonzai: 0.9 & 1.0 are very good.

For Cartoon Network: High 1s and 2.0s are good. Higher is great.

For Nick: High 3s are standard. 4.0 & 5.0 are good.

For Disney: Any 3 is standard. 4 is good, and 5 is great.

That's the ratings put down to their simplest. If a show performs below those numbers, then the show isn't doing well.

Cartoon Network has really been gaining steam over Nickelodeon lately. Normally, they'd be farther down in third place, but they've certainly been on the rise on Saturday. Do you think this is reflective of how much better CN's programming is, or how terrible Nickelodeon's scheduling is?

A new episode of Korra lost to a rerun of Jessie by .8 points... that's bloody terrible right there people, that over a few good thousand viewers flocking over to a rerun of a sitcom.

I'm surprised, Johnny Test actually beat Spongebob for once, that's damn surprising. Too bad the same can't be said of Thundercats, Young Justice, and Green Lantern. But hey, at least Pokemon got a 2.0; that's good in CN's book.

Power Rangers is doing awfully for Nickelodeon, of course putting it at the end of the block is normally a bad idea. That's the death sentence for most shows, hence why even Panda isn't doing so hot.

Wanna see something even more hillarious about Korra losing to Jessie?

Why is it that almost every DC live action sitcom has pretty much a near-similar premise nowadays about some teen that does *insert whatever here*? At this point they're pretty much no better than Seth McFarlane when it comes to making new shows.

Then read the one-two sentences worth of colored text then. That's what it's there for.

My god; four episodes of Spongebob in a row. No wonder Nick did so well that week.

It's good to know Korra's back on track, even if only by .2 points.

Level up has got to go, it's getting all the promotion, but it gets such terrible ratings. What a waste of money.

You think Cartoon Network would've learned by now that live action shows never survive on their channel. Look at how hard CN Real and Out of Jimmys Ass tanked.
