Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed...!

Just in case you're still in doubt if their game is related to SEGA/Sonic, here are Sumo's partners, according to themselves:

DEEP SILVER IS THERE, MIGHTY NO.9 KART CONFIRMED!

Actually, it's Metal Gear Racing, since Konami is a partner.

Any guesses? Sony is a partner... so Crash is a possibility if they want to partner up with Activision and Vicarious Visions too?

They're also developing a FPS game lol

It wouldn't surprise me at all if this is a "new" Racing series only starring Sonic, Sega clearly wants their answer to Mario Kart and have wanted it for years. Don't forget the original ASR was supposed to have a much bigger focus on Sonic in its early stages, with at least five more Sonic characters being planned. Big is sort of the remnant of that production stage, i.e. he was the only side character who made it in the end. Sega were fine with the crossover because back then they did have their own Sonic Racing IP with Riders, but months later that exploded thanks to a so-called Kinect. Now even the Olympics are dead, and there is no Sonic spin-off series period.

According to S0L on the Sega Forums, Sega was reportedly not interested in another All-Stars game despite Sumo pitching new ideas regularly and Transformed's amazing reception. I thought it was because they focused their resources on Boom at that time, but maybe the truth is they are just not interested in pushing the Sega Superstars brand anymore. Sales were average for a multi-platform game (although it turned out to have some legs), and with Aaron Webber deconfirming another "All-Stars" game and the Sumo Presentation slide mentioning "a global IP", I believe...

Everybody's Super Sonic Racing. Except other Sega characters.

If this is true, I'd be sorry for the Sumo Digital staff, they are such huge Sega fans and care more for the forgotten franchises than Sega themselves do. Also I wanted a Space Channel 5 track goddangit Knowing Sumo, they'd probably sneak in a new Sega Carnival stage or the racers as guest-stars/DLC though. Sega might be inspired by Mario Kart 8 here (despite guest-stars being a thing back in Riders 1).

Makes sense to me. SEGA's IPs don't have nearly the market strength of a lot of Nintendo's IPs, so hearing that it wasn't as successful as Nintendo's crossover effort doesn't surprise me one bit.

Then have Sonic be the only character to be in both games. I just want to play as my dear Sonic characters, just like a lot of people do, while many others prefer to play as the SEGA characters, I know it'll never happen but it's just my idea.

You have plenty of opportunities to play as Sonic characters in the future or even right now. What about that Sonic Forces: Speed Battle? You can play as 16 beloved Sonic characters. And their will be dozens of games for that in the near future. But the other Sega characters only have this last series left to shine. This one series. Why should Sonic once again steel the spotlight again?

Also I think this is actually the right time to hook kids and gamers up to other Sega IPs. Let's be honest here in the last six years Sonic didn't do well with stuff like Boom, Forces, Lost World and Runners. The only good game that came out in this time was Mania, which, first, was made by fans and second, relay way to much on nostalgia pandering. Sonic is not really a well received franchise anymore. It has become a joke, a laughing stock. It is more a meme than anything else now.

The other IPs can actually help Sonic to recover.

I don't give a shit about that game, I wanna play as shadow in this.

A lot of other people don't give too much of a shit about those other sega ip's because their interests don't tend to crossoever with a kart racer and just wanna play as a sonic, or like a nights character.

I know it sounds mean, but this is a very specific type of game where the audience is , a lot of at least is here for a single thing. Maybe try that argument in say, a crossoever fighter. That has much broader appeal in terms of getting people on stuff

Uh, no. The whole point of a crossover is to provide for fans of many different things. That's regardless of whether it's a fighter, kart racer, or even strategy game.

And you can play as Shadow in the ASR games, so you're catered to anyway. Likewise, I and other general SEGA fans are catered to with characters like Opa-Opa, NiGHTS, Ryo etc. People you know may not care much for other SEGA IP... but there's a fairly large amount of people who do. JSRF for instance, is easily one of the most requested SEGA PC ports.

If you don't like the other IP, fair does - but denying the fact there's a sizeable amount of people who do is just weird.

I don't think those people number enough that if they made a strait sonic and sega all stars racing game, it wouldn't sell. I will shit on sega as much as the next guy but a lot of their IP's whether their own fault or just not being appealing aren't really known by regular audiences. Along with them already not intersecting well in this realm that is primarily known for being " Mario Kart " .

Like I said if this was " Sega The Fighters " Then I would be a 100% with you , but I feel like this specific type of game has a very specific appeal and I don't feel like the appeal isn't broad enough in this scenario.

I'm one of the people who ask for JSRF, but JSRF isn't going to happen because while there are " tons of fans" there aren't enough to make sega put in the effort to pay for all that music to actually make a PC port. There are some scenarios with like yakuza that now its being regularly translated in all its absurdity its grown, not a large but a sizable fanbase that would allow them to translate those games, or sony rather. But not every series is yakuza, some times people don't give a shit. And I think that's whats going on with these games

ASRT has nearly 1 million owners on Steam alone. The first game has roughly 240k, and that's considering it's a massively butchered port.

The appeal has already been proven to work. All axing the SEGA characters would do is weaken sales - most Sonic fans are going to buy it anyway because Sonic's in it, so why not have the SEGA characters and also get some dosh from the general SEGA fans? And consider the breadth of series represented in the All Stars games - there may not be a huge amount of JSR fans, or NiGHTS fans, but they add up from series to series.

Also - the solution to the woes about these series not being as 'beloved' as Sonic isn't going to be solved by burying them deeper. It may not be a new game, but I'll take all the JSR rep I can get, thanks.

I feel like removing the other characters would be a step back. Even Nintendo started adding characters from other series after SEGA did it.

"Nintendoes what SEGA already did." (Only after SEGA did it, despite all the begging prior.)

(Yeah, I know it's not quite the same, but it still amuses me.)

Anyway, if a new ASR is on the way, my new character wishlist is for Blaze the Cat and Vectorman to join up.

If this happens I'll be very very happy. If Sumo Digital do have a kart racer in the works it has to be the Sonic franchise surly.

If this is Sonic and All Stars Racing, I would love love see Ristar playable. Anyway, in terms of gameplay concepts, I was thinking they could make the vehicles customizable, but have different vehicle parts allow you to access different shortcuts, kind of like that cancelled Crash Team Racing are from 2010.

If I remember correctly, despite an allegedly huge budget Transformed's roster was held back because the team had to create four vehicles for each character, the land/sky/water ones and the vehicle in its transforming state. Only with reskins they were able to buff the cast up to be comparable to the first game's roster (Although Pudding did have a unique vehicle, but I love Pudding so screw you haters lol). They skipped the fourth vehicle type for DLC characters by having the cars transform in a puff of smoke or similar animations.

There were definitely strong opinions about the Sonic representation, but I personally didn't get why the series shouldn't have gotten one/two new racers for each installment similar to how the Mario side grows in Smash Bros. Especially if the alternative is Danica Patrick and Wreck-It Ralph.

I was thinking about this, and unless they added a considerable number of new characters, wouldn't a lot of the groundwork for these vehicles already have been done?

So, grain of salt here, but here's an interesting tidbit. Again, don't take it as a confirmation, but... yeah.

Spindash.de was at the Spielwarenmesse (Toy Fair) in Nuremberg, Germany, and they had Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed Toys, the 2012 ones. (it's in German, but give it a look for the pics)

According to Zappies, the toy maker, they were put on the shelf again as a representation/placeholder for upcoming, not yet finished toys for a new Sonic Racer coming out in 2018. They didn't specify anything (with or without Sega Characters), but that's what they said.

Again, take it with a grain of salt, it's just a toy maker and noone directly involved with the games, but keep in mind that Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed was discovered the same way, only on the New York Toy Fair 2012

So, uh... the ride never ends, huh?

Man. I really hope this happens!

For real. Free Riders would've been great without the motion controls imo.
