Some other questions

1 In the trailer I see Sonic flying in the panzer dragoon stage in a section with water under him. Is it possible to use (for example) a kind of weapon to hit a racer and let him fall in the water then force him to transform his vehicle in a boat? I heard one of the placeholder weapon is an ice cube that freezes the racers...is that possible to do that in the air, blocking a racer, and then forcing him to transform into another vehicle without touching any circle?

2 Don't know if this actually breaks rule A...are we going to see some duo/trio/groups of characters or there will be only singular racers?

3 Is there going to be a contest like the Bentley Jones one for the last game?

4 is there going to be an art book section in the game, where u might be able to see concept, characters' models and so on...?

5 Is there an imput to change the visual while driving , as real based racing games?

6 Will the announcer be a little funnier this time around?

7... more a technical question and an advice at the same time: would it be difficult to generate a specular version of the same track? I'm not referring as reverse track like Mario Kart, but literary specular. Might be cool to have it implemented

8 Are u going to include some unusual effect like black/white, hand drawn style, or just weird effects for racetracks?

9 is there going to be more CG this time around? :)

10 Is there going to be a Grand Prix mode for multiplayer offline? this thing lacking really knocked me off on last game

Wasn't splitscreen support for everything confirmed in an interview awhile back, thus, splitscreen support for some sort of Grand Prix mode?

Apparently the announcer will not be in the game at all...or will hardly talk during races.

Oh yeah, I've got a question. It's been confirmed that there is a split-screen mode for all game modes, so does that mean that 4 people can play on one TV and face other people though the internet? This leads me to another question. How many people can race against each other over the internet?

If these questions have been answered already then I may have missed them.

1. Without going into too much detail, we don't do this as we want a level playing field where everyone is driving, boating or flying. Let's take your situation there, if you go shot down, how hard would it be to aim and get revenge on the player in the air when they're way above you?

That's not to say there aren't situations where you can take alternate routes, but we don't allow players to force each other to transform.

2. Can't say, doesn't break Rule A - but talking about it would :P

3. There's already a contest out there to get your Grafitti onto the Jet Set Radio level, and I'm sure SEGA have some things in the works for later on. So maybe, but I'm not sure what they've got planned outside of the JSR one!

4. It's something we'll look at if there is time. I did send a load of concept art to SEGA the other day too which should make it into the wild shortly...!

5. I'll answer this in a sec...

6. There isn't an announcer at the request of SEGA. They said he was cheesy! Can't understand why :P

7. Not sure what you mean by Specular here? Do you mean paint the whole thing gold or something? Might look cool, I think folk would cry foul if we said it was an alt track varation!

8. When you have so many IP's, levels and characters, we've already got to work out how we unify all those art styles to make them look like they belong in one game, so we're not currently planning anything like this. We can do some pretty funky stuff through our post effects system - so we could if we wanted, we just likely won't have the time!

9.The whole game is CG :)

10.Again, we're not talking explicitly about this stuff, but yes we are aware of the previous criticisms.

Being able to change the view would be nice, but it doesn't seem like it's in.


I told you I'd come back to this :)

We don't have multiple cameras as this is a game all about characters and worlds, plus drifting from a 1st person perspective gets really interesting, especially with water and air. So we're not planning this one, that's not to say we don't have some dynamic camera stuff going off though.

Thanks for your answers Steve! with the specular thing I mean a mirror effect: Like if u see someone play a circuit from a mirror, then every right curve is a left curve in the mirror and so on...

Ah right - so everything is properly mirrored - ala Twilight Princess, so left bends become right and vice versa. That is something we're looking at, but it's not totally firmed up yet.

This is something we've been playing with (in fact we did the same in SSR, but disabled it in the final release). The big problem you get if it's wrong, is it winds up a bit Benny Hill, with you drafting the player in front, the one behind you catching you and then a whole congo of drafting players. It's also quite hard to explain with FX, but yeah, we've not ruled this one out yet, but there's already so much to contend with during a race. You've got drifting, weapons, stunts, transforms, short-cuts, different speeds at different difficulties - if anything right now it's a little bit too hectic!

Well, think about it. Isn't snaking guaranteed due to the nature of how drifting works in this game? If you get a boost from drifting, there will be snaking. It's inevitable. I think so, at least.

It's a high-level tactic that prevents races from getting too homogeneous. You're gonna have to snake like a boss in order to be a cut above the rest in lap times and such.

If they wanted to get rid of snaking they could make it more like Daytona's drifting, but I think that would be too difficult for the kiddies.

Yes and no. There is something we're planning - but it's sort of different to what you're suggesting. We'll be talking about this one down the line though...

I think drafting would be great for those long empty stretches of road that are too thin to snake on.


Long stretches of road are for boost pads and weapons :P

We did try to keep snaking down to an absolute minimum last time, it's still possible right now, but it gets harder the harder difficulty you pick and we'll likely try and minimise it as personally I felt it wasn't much fun in that other Karting game when playing online...

Can we expect shout-outs to SEGA hardware, like the consoles, in Transformed?

If you were in a different time, and were developing this game for a SEGA console, which SEGA console would you develop the game for?

Seems like an incredibly daunting task to me. Godspeed.

I know you don't take suggestions from forum folk (legal stuff and all that) but I just feel like tossing this idea out there. You could have "Standard" and "Advanced" drifting modes selectable, like in Daytona. In this case, "Standard" would be the typical ASR drifting with holding the brake to charge up a boost while going around a corner. "Advanced" would be more like, you let go of the gas and stamp the brake while turning; this puts you into a drift state where you apply gas while steering in the direction you want to go. Instead of receiving a boost you get a flat increase in top speed, and go at a fixed yet quick speed while drifting. "Standard" mode players would be able to keep up with great boosting.
