Hey havent posted here in well... forever, so i thought id start becoming regular starting here :)

I was just thinking about this ability. What does chaos control actually do? I know in heroes it stopped time, but that's never really been reused, but does shadow actually teleport? or just speed up so fast he appears to teleport?
Refering to SA2, when he first uses it to go past sonic he is clearly just moving at huge speeds passing him epicly in slow motion blah blah but, when Rouge is later trapped with the bomb in the vault (completely trapped with no escape), he teleports in and teleports her out of there...

so does he actually teleport or just speed up? (i know, boring question, but im curious)
also Hi everyone :D

"Chaos Control" is a specialised pest control company that Knuckles has on speed dial for when Chaos escapes the Master Emerald and goes on rampages.

this is what the ancients had to deal with instead of cockroaches.

It's kind of a mess really and has never been clear. It depends not only on the game, but also on the event. Here's what I remember:
  • SA2, Sonic and Shadow meeting. Slows time
  • SA2, Shadow saving Rouge. Teleports
  • SA2, Sonic escaping from death in the pod. Teleports
  • Heroes, Chaos Inferno. Slows time, if not stops time entirely
  • ShTH, ability in levels. Shadow flies through the level, possibly supposed to be teleportation, but it's completely different to everything else.
  • ShTH, ability in boss battles. Slows time
  • ShTH, Black Comet rooting itself on Earth. Teleports
  • Battle, double jump ability. Teleports (no Emerald)
  • Battle, variety of moves. Distorts space (no Emerald)
  • '06, Shadow's opening. Teleports (no Emerald)
  • '06, Shadow and Silver fight. Slows time
  • '06, various points where two characters use it. Opens a portal anyone can use to freely traverse time.
Fuck if I know.

EDIT: What Komodin said.

Even the act of comparing the words Chaos and Control makes the phenom a complete oxymoron, because chaos is literally by definition, uncontrollable. The games tend to loosely define Chaos Control as control over elements of space and time, which easily encompasses its most common applications (time slowing, stopping and general travelling, teleportation and various destructive attacks), but like the Chaos Emeralds it's so ridiculously broad and all-encompassing that it can handle practically any application the writers throw it at - and just the same, ends up getting used as a cheap plot coupon far too frequently - but to be perfectly honest I think it's best that it maintains some degree of ambiguity anyway, if only because trying to explain it away would be absolutely painful from a storytelling standpoint.

For now I think it works just fine to say that Shadow can teleport and throw wierd zappy beam things - I honestly don't know many people that really appreciated having some overly broad sci-fi bullshit explanation for it.

wow hey you did your research there Posted Image it really does seem like a mess, but like Komodin says, i guess whatever suits the story seems to work.

I think Shadow has the ability to teleport, but it's just that the Chaos Emerald helps give him more power and energy to go further. Chaos Control just really slows the movement of time, therefore the time travel thing comes when two users who use chaos control to slow down time twice as much, which opens a rift so they can go in the future?

Yep, just pulling this out of my ass. Let's agree that the plot demands it.

I don't really think it is one specific ability. I think it's more of a general thing.

Chaos control is just the ability to warp time and space.

Thank God it's become a recluse as of recent titles. I would be inclined to like Shadow more if he weren't a clusterfuck of superpowers.

He's no worse than Silver, and don't even get me started on his powers of flight, telekinesis, teleportation, energy blast, and (through telekinetic cheating) super speed. And that's before getting into the fact that he can do Chaos Control as well.

Hell, Sonic too if you want to count his recent use of other powers.

I'm with you all the way. The fact that Silver can just leisurely stroll through time is ridiculous.

I don't like Shadow, but I hate everything about Silver.

Not to mention Metal, who can copy the majority of all characters' abilities.

Well Metal Sonic is far worse, since he can copy EVERYTHING about Silver and every other character, as he apparently did in Sonic Heroes.

Edit: lol, ninja'd by Lungo.

I don't like Shadow, but I hate everything about Silver.

Yeah, well despite what I said I happen to like both, but I wish that they were more balanced. Honestly, there's not a single character I can actually hate with a passion, and I'm not fond of people who bash characters. I dislike Big, but I'll be damned if I let you talk shit about him inaccurately.

with Episode 2's Metal episode too the ancient power he picks up makes him evenmore of a powerhouse being able to throw giant electric balls of energy, the ability to spindash with a more powerful attack and even summon electric pillars, his move list just keeps growing.

You know, for something called Chaos Control it seems to cause more chaos than it controls.

Chaos Control is defined as the ability to use [the power of] the Chaos Emeralds to warp time and space.
Everything Chaos Control has ever done is warp time and space:
- slowing time down around him is clearly warping time, and probably also space so that he can still move without the air around him stopping him
- teleporting is warping space and maybe time to perhaps fold space like paper and instantly travel to a new position

Also, as the definition of Chaos Control is the ability to use [the power of] the Chaos Emeralds to warp time and space, at least one Chaos Emerald or a suitable alternative is required to be within some poorly defined vicinity to draw power from (it does not need physical contact); see a previous thread I made: http://board.sonicst...537#entry378537
