If it's something you desire, you probably think that it's long overdue. At least, I think it is.

Sonic Team seems to enjoy bombarding us with an assortment of forgettable and/or annoying new characters, with a good handful of them being voiced so horribly that you relish the option to skip cutscenes.
Maybe they just dump them all around Sonic to make him seem even cooler in comparisson, I dunno.

But anyway, I think they'd get mad props if they allowed the characters to blossom in the hearts of the fans, simply by giving us the chance to control them and beat the crap out of each other. Even someone as infuriating as Big the Cat, God rest his innocent confused soul (I think he got killed off), could be revered as quite the contender in a fighting genre. As for the characters the majority of us actually DO like, such as Blaze, the experience would be all the more amazing. Go on, imagine it! Now wipe the drool from your chin.

Past Sonic games of the fighting genre have left me with a grumbling stomach in hunger for more. Sonic the Fighters was a good idea, being completely different to what you'd usually expect from a Sonic game, but the gameplay experience was short and left a dull taste in my mouth for the most part. Wasn't really amused with the comical fighting animations. I suppose I'd have enjoyed it more had I played it during the era of its original release, but I played it on Gems. Whatever. Turning Super was a nice touch though. But 8 Chaos Emeralds? Gerrouttahere..

Now Sonic Battle, that was the shit, yo! A real step in the right direction, even with its flaws. Not to mention the holy grail for spriters. Even though all the characters pretty much shared the exact same button combinations for attacks, they still all handled very differently from each other. I'm sure a lot of you who played Battle found a new respect for whichever characters you played with the most (Shadow, 99.9% of you). Or you couldn't give two shits about them and just whored their skills out to Emerl to create the most game-breaking character possible. Anyway, it was a good game for what it was, right? I'm starting to ramble so I'll wrap it up.

I'd very much like to see a Sonic game featuring a massive roster of characters from the Sonic universe. Perhaps with 3D characters and stages but with 2D gameplay? Like Budokai 3 or something. Loved that game so much, which is why I used it as an example. Or if it was on a hand-held platform it could be like designed like Card Sagas Wars (if you haven't heard of it, look it up, seriously). Anyway I'm very interested to hear what other people think regarding this possibility. Think it could already be in the works?

Also, I've always fantasized about a typical hold-right-to-win Sonic game but with beat-em-up sections.. Certain levels or level segments would have you change to a different button configuration designed for fighting enemies that can't be taken out merely with a homing attack. I really enjoyed using Sonic's Tornado attack in Heroes, and I'd love to see the level up feature again. Punching and kicking stuff break-dance style would be fun right? Would be great to see his Ground/Air shot and Ring Toss from Battle, too. Or hey, it could just be another Sonic & Knuckles game where Sonic's about the 2D speed and Knuckles beats the crap out of stuff in a 3D environment.. Pretty much Sonic Unleashed but with Knuckles instead of the Werehog. And less gay-looking "dark" enemies.

Anyway, opinions, please.
  • Which developers do you think would do the best job? Regarding art style and whatnot, 2D or 3D movement, etc.
  • Which characters would you like to see most? Dig deep, anyone from the Sonic universe (or even Sega characters as secret unlockables or bosses).
  • What kind of attack command input style that you're familiar with would you like to see? (e.g. Tekken or Street Fighter or whichever fighting games you're used to)
Can't think of any other questions, just go bat shit with whatever you'd like to see

Another Sonic fighting game would be amazing. I can't resist a good fighting game. I kinda wish that they would've remade Sonic Battle, or at least have given it a sequel. A new fighting game would definitely be a great way to give some of the underused characters a nice spotlight, just like Battle did. The one thing I hope would be for the game to be more balanced than Battle.

I'm not a fan of traditional fighters, so if they made a Sonic the Fighters 2, I would probably give it a pass. If it was something more like Smash Bros I could get behind it, tho'; something more platformery, with more focus on movement than the standard fighter. Also no ridiculous inputs for moves.

And less gay-looking "dark" enemies.

Don't do this.

I liked watching others play Smash Bros, but I didn't care for it very much when it came to playing it myself. Too floaty for my tastes, and not enough combos for a combo-enthusiast like me. I'd hate to see a Smash Bros clone. But yeah, large multi-platform environments that allow for a lot of legroom and gauging vantage points wouldn't hurt, as long as it wouldn't hinder the fighting mechanics.

A new fighting game would be cool: as long as it isn't a blatant Super Smash Bros. clone, we have enough of those as it is. I would personally love a 3D Fighting game along the lines of the original Sonic the Fighters, except with larger stages to run around in to give it an element of speed.

I personally would love another Sonic the Fighters-type game, especially if AM2 was behind it. I feel like something like that brought up to today's standards could potentially be awesome (especially if they kept the wacky cartoon style and everything).

I think it would also be really cool if they made a really flashy Marvel Vs. Capcom-esque Sonic fighting game. The image that I have in my head of that is really awesome...

Anyway, yes, I would love to see another Sonic fighting game.

Never played Sonic the Fighters, but if it was a type of game similar to SSB I'd be ok with it. Sonic Battle, in my opinion, was nearly unplayable with the horrible controls and odd camera angle. I would love to see something better

I'm a huge fan of Traditional fighters and really enjoyed Sonic battle. I'm just wondering how would it work to combine these two systems.

I could do without the isometric view that sonic battle had. An improved sonic the fighters with less comical animations and a refined engine would be cool.

I would love to see another fighter. I was thinking about this for quite some time.

I can't understand why someone would want less comical animation.

It must be made by Arc System Works, but with the artstyle of the current game.

I would love for the characters to keep thier charm but having that show in thier attacks would just be distracting and I feel would take away from the game. They can still keep it in dialogue and attitude during battle.

Sonic the Fighters was a tad too hardcore for my tastes, but at the same time, I wouldn't want something as mindless and chaotic as Smash Bros (which is more a platformer where you can hit each other, rather than a fighting game, in my opinion.

I wouldn't want something as technical as say, Street Fighter by far. I know I say this every time the concept of a new Sonic fighter is brought up, but I'd live for Eighting to make it with their Naruto Clash of Ninja/ Gekito Ninja Taisen! engine. It's got the perfect balance between button-mashing and hardcore.

But yeah, I'd love to see another Sonic fighting game, personally. In fact, I'm still pretty surprised we're getting ASRT instead of one.

I have to admit another fighting Sonic game would be pretty cool, I'd like if it was similar to Sonic Battle (I thought Battle was a great game) but if it was to be similar then it should include more balanced attacks , they could also add more original stuff to it if necessary but also include a story and then it could feature other characters which get involved, I wouldn't say no to a sequel of Battle though. Even though I wouldn't mind a modern Sonic fighting game, I think it would also suit the SEGA superstar series well if they made an SEGA all stars fighting game or something different.

I personally loved Sonic Battle ....WHY OH WHY DID I PUT IT ON SWAPITS?!
I liked the animation ,music and gameplay of Sonic Battle it was a really enjoyable experience.
Loved playing as Tails,Shadow and Emerl mostly.

Sonic The Fighters played it on gems really loved the comical style and cartoony graphics it had such charm.
I wouldn't mind either way if another fighting game was 2D or 3D(or a mix of both) but I'd like it to expand, more speed, more mechanisms and I really like the idea of the original posters idea of bringing ideas from Sonic Heroes.
One can dream...

I would LOVE a Technical (basically, complicated) Sonic Fighter. I mean I am kinda big on fighting games. The last one I picked up was King Of Fighters XIII. Its a much improved version of KOF 12 and it plays like the classic KOF's. Anyways, I would Love a Sega All-Star Fighters more so. I think it would be awesome. Give it street fighter inputs and a decent fighting engine and man. You got yourself a wicked game.

I'm glad people yearn for this (almost) as much as I do, and y'never know, if there's enough commotion here, it could catch Sega's attention. To be honest I'm surprised another Sonic fighting game hasn't been developed by now. Sonic Battle got generally good reviews, and most fans were happy with it. The idea of another fighting game would be in the back of at least one developers mind over there.
