Oh boy, this is gonna be loooong.
Collecting video games is a big hobby of mine. My collection spans multiple consoles and multiple cupboards, and I have pretty much every major console from the mid 80s to today, minus a few more obscure and expensive ones (and Xboxes. My house is an Xbox-free zone.)
So, let's have a look, shall we? I've tried to put them in semi-chronological order. Since I'm definitely over the image limit, click the name of the console to see my fancy colour photos of each little collection.
NESMy NES was a real find. I got it at a trash and treasure market I frequent often with 4 games, a controller and a working Zapper gun (!!!) for only 40 bucks! An absolute steal! My game collection is still in the early days, as I only have nine, but it will increase in time.
Games: Robocop 2, Gauntlet 2, Excitebike, Tetris, Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt, Castlevania, Ninja Gaiden, Super Mario Bros 3, Dr Mario
Master SystemMy Master System was another market find but sadly, unlike the NES, my Light Phaser doesn't work. I have even fewer games for it as well - they're pretty tough to come across now outside of eBay.
Games: Alex Kidd (built-in), Laser Ghost, Double Dragon, Sonic 2
Game GearThe Game Gear is pretty much a portable Master System, so I'll put it here. Yet again, this was a market purchase. I don't exactly remember how much I bought it for, but I was thrilled to add this absolute monster to my collection. All my carts are Japanese for some reason. It's cool though - it's not like the thing has region locking or anything.
Games: Sonic 1, Columns, Sonic and Tails
Mega DriveAh my beloved Mega Drive. I bought this from an awesome used game store that sadly shut down a few years ago. The chain it's a part of, Gametraders, is still operating (unlike some game store chains in Australia...) yet there are none close to where I live now. Shame really. Ah well, at least there's eBay for games!
Games: Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, Columns, Moonwalker, Sonic 3D Blast (Genesis cart - needs
this bad boy to run on my PAL Mega Drive), Sonic CD (have the game, not the Mega CD XP), Megagames 6, Sonic Spinball
SNESThe Super Nintendo was another Gametraders purchase. It's a sturdy little machine. I mean, seriously, you could drop this thing off a bridge and it would still run Mario World perfectly. I don't know how Nintendo does it, really.
Games: Super Mario All-Stars, Donkey Kong Country 2, Starwing (aka Starfox), Super Mario World, Super Game Boy, Multi-region adaptor (in case I need to import some shizz)
N64My N64 was actually my first TV console - a hand-me-down from my cousins when they moved onto the PS2. I would always look forward to playing MarioKart 64 when I went to their house, so it was natural that I got to keep the N64. I still yank it out every once and a while to play, cause it's that much fun!
Games: Pokemon Stadium, MarioKart 64, South Park, Tony Hawk Skateboarding, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Super Smash Bros, Snowboard Kids, Yoshi's Story, Snowboard Kids 2, Bomberman 64, Banjo Kazooie, Kirby 64
SaturnI never really knew the Saturn when it was out. It was such a flop here in Australia that it was just forgotten by the general public, which is a pity. This particular console came from the magical ether that is eBay. The person I bought it from even put in a completely sealed unopened 3D Pad! So I'm all set for NiGHTS, when I get it at some point. ;P
Game: Sega Rally. And an Action Replay for more import goodness in the future.
PS1This here's not an ordinary Playstation - this is an
audiophile Playstation, or a first model SCPH-1002. Apparently they have better sound than the later models. Then again, the later models don't tend to skip as much as this one does. Even though I have the ability to play PS1 games on my later consoles, I keep this PS1 for that epic boot sound. You know the one. =P
Games: Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, Spyro 2, Rayman, Tomb Raider 1, 2 and 3
DreamcastOh Dreamcast. You were well before your time. It was pretty sad when Sega exited the hardware market. Sega's console build quality was pretty much on par with Nintendo. It could probably be classified as a weapon if you chucked it hard enough at someone. It's that heavy. I have quite a deal more games than you see here, but I haven't put them due to their... questionable origin.
Games: Space Channel 5, Ready 2 Rumble 2, Sonic Adventure, Dreamkey (not technically a game, but whatever)
PS2Oh hey, look, it's the Dreamcast-killer! SHUN!
Nah, the PS2 is ok. This is probably one of the most recent consoles in my collection, in terms of actually buying it. I found it at a Cash Converters somewhere for super cheap, so I thought I might as well. I even have an Eye Toy for it, yet I never really crack it out to play much. Hmm.
Games: God of War, Super Bust-A-Move, Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, Sega Classics Collection, Kingdom Hearts, Eye Toy Play 2, Sega Superstars, Sonic Gems Collection
GamecubeMy Gamecube was one of the first consoles in my collection that I actually got new - it was a Christmas present one year from my parents. I got the console, an extra controller, even a copy of Sonic Adventure DX! The only thing it was missing was a memory card, and so the first few days I had to keep playing the opening stages over and over again! Ah, good times...
Games: Sonic Adventure DX, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, Sonic Heroes, Sonic Mega Collection, Sonic Riders, Super Smash Bros Melee, MarioKart Double Dash, Metroid Prime
WiiThe largest amount of games for one console in my collection has to be for my Wii. I've counted - 32 games! But this is because I share the console with my sister, and she plays all those Guitar Hero and Harry Potter games and such. Plus the Wii is great for parties, so a lot of party games are here. Fun!
Games: Guitar Hero: World Tour, The Beatles Rock Band, Band Hero, Sonic and Mario at the Olympic Winter Games, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Wii Sports Resort, Sonic Colours, Super Mario Galaxy, MarioKart Wii, Guitar Hero III, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Michael Jackson: The Experience, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Wii Sports, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, Wii Play, Dancing Stage Hottest Party, Sega Superstars Tennis, Onic and Sega All-Stars Racing, Wii Fit, Wii Fit Plus, Glee Karaoke Revolution, Super Paper Mario, Okami, Geometry Wars Galaxies, Sonic Unleashed, WarioWare Smooth Moves, NiGHTS Journey of Dreams, House of the Dead Overkill, House of the Dead 2&3 Return, Samba De Amigo, Super Smash Bros Brawl
PS3My PS3 is my newest console, both in age and the time I acquired it - bought it last Boxing Day as a self-Christmas gift. I'm very much liking the high-def gaming experience. Just don't expect me to go get Call of Duty. XP
Games: Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction, 3D Dot Game Heroes, Little Big Planet 2, Tron Evolution, Sonic Generations, Mega Drive Ultimate Collection, Sonic Unleashed, Assassin's Creed II, Assassin's Creed (lazily Photoshopped in because my sister has lent it out to a friend)
DSOh yeah, I'm still rocking the first model DS Phat. Basically, until they put out a 3DS Lite with better battery life, I'm sticking with my old DS. Besides, I'm broke ATM. XP
Games: Pokemon SoulSilver, Pokemon Platinum, MarioKart DS, Brain Training, Clubhouse Games, Gooking Guide, Sonic Rush, Scribblenauts, New Super Mario Bros, Metroid Prime Pinball, Konami Arcade Classics
Other Nintendo HandheldsFinally, here are my other Nintendo handhelds consoles - a purple Game Boy Color (first actual console ever!), a red Game Boy Advance SP (bought from eBay) and a Donkey Kong Game & Watch (found at an op shop for $2!).
Games:GB/GBC - Tetris, Pokemon Silver, Pocket Bomberman, Mario's Picross, Pokemon Crystal, Kirby's Dream Land, Kirby's Dream Land 2, Pokemon Pinbal, Pokemon Yellow
GBA - Pokemon Pinball Ruby & Sapphire, Sonic Advance 3
Well, that's it! Pretty extensive collection, now that I think about it. And yet there's always more stuff to collect!
