"He's Gonna Take You Back To The Past".

http://www.youtube.c...d?feature=watch

http://cinemassacre.com/

Personally I wanted to do this a long while then.

One of my favourite past times is watching Nerd videos, I have watched his Karate Kid episode some many I can quote it especially the opening.

Angry Video Game Nerd Is web statical review series were the Nerd reviews games he consider shitty usually the games he reviews are old NES games

As may or may not know the Angry Video Game Nerd is James Rolfe, originally it was just a fun little easter egg for his friends that he recorded onto a VHS in the early 00's which he later uploaded to the internet he initially only wanted to do reviews (Castlevaina II: Simon's Quest and Dr. Jekyll And Mr Hyde). However they became popular and people wanted more which inspired James to make some new episodes notably his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles went "viral" at this moment this video has 6, 387, 244 views.

Its hard to remember how I got into AVGN. I personally discovered AVGN through this site I think people mention it in a topic along with the Nostalgia Critic. At first I watched the Nostalgia Critic and at first I really didn't like him (took ages to warm to his style which even now I am not always keen on, prefer his eariler reviews). After Having my Ears Rape by the Nostalgia Crtic I had my hesitations about watching AVGN but I was curious and gave him a try after a while I was hooked, James style just hit funny bones and reminded me of losing my shit at video games and for him to take and satirize it was really good.

AVGN is my go to when a need a good laugh. My favourite episodes are Karate Kid, Top Gun, Wally Bear and the NO Gang, Bible Games, Ghostbusters and Moonwalker to name just a few.

James has also made reviews of horror movies (they are pretty extensive and non satirical) , old amateur movies he has made even insight into how he makes AVGN episodes and Movies.

So anybody love him or loathe him?Posted Image

I love James' stuff. His Nerd character never fails to make me laugh and the movie and TV show reviews he does on Cinemassacre are detailed and entertaining. (I especially loved his TMNT-related videos.) I'm counting down the days until his next episode now that he's back from filming his movie. :)

Big fan of James here.
I usualy watch at least 1 episode every weekend even if it is for the 99th time.
Everytime I see a new episode uploaded I know that it will not fail at make me laugh and entertain for a while.

*almost* had a chance to meet him at a convention near Philly last year, but the line was way too long and his panel was full and too late. :(

This year, same convention, he'll be there with potential clips from his movie. But I'll be in Minnesota for a wedding. Damn!

Still, at the convention last year I bought all of James's DVDs from the ScrewAttack booth. That younger long haired dude sold me them. Love how James mixes horror and bad retro games. Really just love all his stuff and really can't wait for the film. Seeing as how he lives in Philly and I do too, perhaps he'll have a showing in the city. If that happens, I'll be there fo sho.

I'm pretty sure there's already an AVGN topic. I don't normally watch this guy, I prefer Nostalgia Critic, but that's not the reason, It just always floats ocer my head. The 2 episodes I have seen were pretty funny though. Is this the person that Chris Bores rips off?

I like the guy, I really do, but I think his videos really suffer for me because of a large part of his audience. I personally prefer the parts where he analyzes and talks purely about the game and why he likes or dislikes it.

Sure, I like some of his "Nerd" character, but I dislike when he spends to much time in a skit or practically spends a whole episode dropping fake poop on a Bugs Bunny costume. That's why some of my favorites are his Castlevania videos, because there's practically no "Nerd" in them, and Plumbers Don't Wear Ties, because there, all the humor comes from how batshit the game is, not him trying to do something wacky.

This is why I don't have much confidence in his movie. It sounds like what I dislike about his videos extended for a whole hour.

his best episodes is the Batman and Castlevania Marathons in my opinion, the way he goes on in Batman Forever's videogame seriously made me die of laughter XD

We have a TGWTG's topic.

I was wondering when someone would bring up Irate Gamer?

Personally I don't hate him as much as some people do because their loads of people ripping off doing the whole Angry Video game "shtick", IG just happened to be first who got E-frame riding off the Nerd and he won't be the last. Though IG's early reviews are notorious for being similar to Nerds (Back To The Future). Hell some people think Nostalgia Critic ripped off the Nerd, while I think the Critic took some inspiration. Unlike the Nerd where his frame came unexpected, the Critic was trying emulate that success with his own show and the rest is history.

Though the Critic may have been inspired by this when he did his Transformers video:

I confess to actually watching some of IG episodes, it beats waiting for Chris-Chan to do something stupid.Posted Image

NC can be good but I find that tries too bloody hard when being angry, I being really hard. If the Critic was a Looney Toons Character he would be Daffy Duck and the Nerd would Bugs Bunny.Posted Image

I've never found arbitrary skits or exaggerated shouty anger in internet videos particularly funny. I cannot for the life of me understand what a review video has to do with a poorly choreographed cosplay greenscreen fistfight, and I'd much rather actually learn something than just hear someone scream a lot about how terrible something is.

...that said, James is far from the guiltiest party when it comes to that kind of stuff (the anger thing was never really that pronounced, and at least his skits tend to be short and "storyline"-free) and it's been very much toned down in his more recent episodes. The "angry nerd" gimmick might have been what put him on the map for whatever reason, but I think he works a lot better when he's in 'cool casual dude talking about things he likes' mode, and it seems like he's realized that.

So yeah. Nice guy, don't really care for the parts where he shits on things.

this is the main reason why i don't find rooster teeth's rage quit videos funny in the least, in fact i turn them off half way through due to the over the top shouting and swearing from the guy that does them (don't remember his name) but he is seriously over the top, in a none funny way.

I think he must listens to his fanbase because his reviews have become more balanced in recent episodes, in fact quite a few of seem quite tame compared to bigger episodes like Nightmare on Elm Street and Bugs Bunny's Birthday Blowout. Posted Image

People complain about the Nerd's lack of output over the past year or so (especially when became work on his movie) but I prefer quality over quantity. That is other reason I prefer him over NC, who reviews some films that aren' worth bitching about because they aren't nostalgic or even well know.

I've lost all respect for the IrateGamer thanks to this video

(I would advise, WATCH THE VIDEO, don't skip. Or at least, go into the description and look at the pics from the Email)

Anyways, I like AVGN, his comedy routine gets me from time to time. Much better then Nostalgia Critic imo, who just consists of screaming, yelling, and firing a fake gun around. At least AVGN comes up with different things every couple of videos.

This guy also slags AVGN off as well, so I don't get his problem. If you don't like something that much, don't watch it. Posted Image

EDIT: Yeah IG's a complete douche for saying that, but this Archfiend guy is no better ranting about people he hasn't even met to cause controversy and boost his viewings so he can get ad revenue, pretty low.

To be fair, he doesn't really do that too often. Most of his videos consist of rather snarky jokes based around various scenes from what he's reviewing and general film criticism. He usually doesn't get too over the top. (Save for some of the particularly bad films and his very few game-related videos.)

If the Critic was a Looney Toons Character he would be Daffy Duck

Heh. Believe it or not, that's who Doug based the character on. Posted Image

Yeah I watched his Inspiration video. I don't know I still find his acting is bad in some of good reviews like Titanic. My problem with the critic is when he reviews films that while not great they are not terrible nor are they nostalgic or memorable so I feel it undermines his acting in my opinion so ends up just being "meh". The Nerd's great, but he's a character that James mostly does because it became a lot more popular than he expected.

To those of you who only know him as the Nerd, I really urge watching the Cinemassacre's Monster Madness videos, as well as some of his Spike TV reviews. He's a cool guy, and he's often got a lot of intelligent and analytical stuff to say with a really earthy way of saying it. Really interesting and easy to listen to.

Giving the Archfiend views is the last thing I want to do. He's an attention whore.

I liked James Rolfe's early nerd videos, but the last 30-40 of his videos feel really half-assed. ESPECIALLY the Kid Kool one. My favorite is probably the Chonologically Confused video.

I personally don't give a damn about Irate gamer or his reviews, so I certainly don't care about the annoying fanwars that go on.

When he's not doing the role of the nerd, he's still a genuinely funny guy, I recomend checking his other videos too.

Ahh, AVGN. This guy is so funny, that I can't eat while watching him. I nearly chocked on my dinner once while watching it.
My favorite episode is the Dick Tracy Review. He gets so angry in that one, he nearly, if so, went in insane.
"Why are there NO fucking continues!" HAHAHAHA! Ahhhh.... classic.
