I just got this achievement today, effectively giving me 1000GS points for Sonic Unleashed, and I wanted to mention this was the hardest, most time consuming 100% achievement game I have done so far. I am sure games like Mass Effect 1 and Dragon Age are just as much time consuming or more, but in terms of a platformer, this is definitely #1.

Alas, I am proud of myself for not giving up and I wanted to know who else here has managed the feat and your thoughts on it.

Quite frankly, I can't be arsed and I don't like the prospect of inevitable frustration. The two Storybook games gave me enough of that whilst I was trying to nail them 100% thank you very much.

Still, for all of the Hard Boiled achievement's difficulty, the saving Yasmin mission is an easy contender.

Beating either Storybook game is an achievement in itself, and good enough for me. I am a full-blown achievement whore, and if Nintendo had achievements for those games, I am sure I would be all over then, but because that's not the case...

"Hard Boiled"... that's the achievement for clearing Eggmanland's hot-dog missions, right?

The Hot Dog missions are terrible. Why? Because lets say I pick the ring challenge Lv1 in any stage. Chances are I'll get enough rings to complete the Lv3 Ring Challenge, defeat enough enemies for the Lv3 Enemy Challenge and finish fast enough for the Lv3 Time Attack but the game still wants me to play through the entire stage 8 more times because it said so. What the fuck?

Twice.

When I get a Sonic game, I almost always end up 100%ing it. Even if I don't like it much, I'm usually compelled to complete it fully. So with Unleashed, on my first file, I worked my way through most of the game's challenges. I beat the game. I maxed out my stats. I got every sun and moon medal. I beat every extra level and mission. Hotdog missions included. And I went after all the art, music, and videos as well.

But, I got hit with the quiz lady glitch. So that was one art book I could never get. Between that and the bullshit of S-ranking some of the extra missions, I decided that was enough. I was done.

And then.

I deleted my file.

And started over.

And did everything. All over again. Including the things I didn't complete the first time.

Fucking Tornado stages. Fucking Mazuri drift stage. FUCKING EGGMANLAND HOTDOG MISSIONS.

All done.

Also this. I could understand if they were still broken up by mission type (the "kill robots" and time attack missions generally aren't compatible anyway, at least towards the end), but having to do the same mission 3 times, working my way up from "get 100 rings!", when I can beat the level 3 challenge in my sleep, is just wasting my time.

Hard boiled is hard... buuuuut.... only because it takes a long time to get through the stage, it's a case of practice the sections you keep failing at, e.g. the bob sledge section, knowing where to keep it in the half pipe, knowing what you can/can't do when jumping as the werehog, where to jump as Sonic, knowing when to use the Werehogs special moves etc. etc.

I think it took me about a day of playing before I beat it once, but after that I beat it within 3 attempts and on each occasion utterly shattered my time.

It is a diffcult challenge, but once you do beat it, you've got the award in the bag, it's not that hard at all from there. The time limit is stupidly generous, unless you just stand still or walk through Eggmanland theres no way you can fail on time.

And yes, it does suck that the ring missions don't stack.

the saving Yasmin mission is an easy contender.

I will never understand this one... I got it on my first go and still to this day wonder what all the fuss was about.

I still can't get this achievement, and as much as I love Unleashed, I really couldn't be bothered to go back through Eggmanland another time.

I can only imagine they're missing a shortcut somewhere. I know I had a shitton of failed attempts before I realized there's a shortcut off the first loop. Though after all that practice, cutting out that platforming section made it trivial.

This achievement made me want to snap a kittens neck...GODDAMN IT WAS HARD!

If Eggmanland only consisted of just the Daytime sections then fine, but the Werehog sections which are just chock full of insta-death pits was just ridiculous.

The Daytime parts of Eggmanland are also chock full of bottomless pits. Coupled with Sonic's speed, the timing of some obstacles, and a badly framed camera, I tend to die a lot more with Sonic than I do with the Werehog. Also, that fucking roller coaster.

Yeah, the dayhog parts are definitely more dangerous. In most parts you're just one misstep from death, and you're likely moving at Unleashed's signature high speeds unless you want to move at a plod so you've only got fractions of seconds to make the right choices. The nighthog has some BS sections but they don't require that sort of split-second reacting and the grabbing is pretty generous if you know to hold the button.

Let's not forget the 2D platforming bits for Sonic, the ones with the moving Eggman blocks. It's an area that requires a precision and variation in jumping ability that the game doesn't really ask from the player beforehand much less provide. I'm completely incapable of getting to the upper levels of the area, and it's all too easy to mess up a wall jump and get booted into the foreground. I was surprised at how much time I took on that portion of the level the last time around I did the campaign.

The first time I tried to beat Eggmanland. It took me over and hour and I used over 30 lives... and that doesn't include the hell which is the armada of bosses which come right after it...

However... the Hard Boiled challenge requires you to beat Eggmanland with only one life. No checkpoints. You die, you restart from the beginning. And you will, a lot.

Beat Eggmanland without dying (technically it's a time trial mission, but the time's so generous that it isn't at all an issue). I forget if you have to do it all 3 times to get the achievement.

I haven't even played Eggmanland, but based on four years worth of everyone else's experiences, I'm pretty sure I'm not even going to touch that.

I'd imagine that it's satisfying once you get the achievement though.
