Sega should start doing two different Sonic style games,
one should be Modern Sonic as he goes on adventures and meets new friends etc
and one as Classic Sonic as he goes up against old enemies such as Fang, Classic Eggman with clips styled in Sonic 4 episode 2 style.
that way both types of sonic fans get what they want

That's pretty much what they were/are trying to do with having the main games like Colors, Generations, etc. released along side with Sonic 4 and such.

And agreed, Groose. I'd rather they focus on the main series and perfect it before trying to multitask.

What Sega should do is advertise the fuck out of Anarchy Reigns when the video game market is low and not wait until next fucking year when everything is coming out.

Sega have been doing this sort of thing since.... 2001 with Sonic Adventure 2 and the Advance series. The later games does the same thing.

Its close but not much, it still counts for something. And like Groose said its best to have consistency.

I'd rather they not cripple games with the classic gameplay by giving into the ass-backwards demands of classic fanboys.

They've been sort of trying to do that ever since the days of Sonic Advance, even though aside from Advance 1 and Generations 3DS classic (sort of), and a halfquarter-hearted try with Sonic 4 the 2D games haven't really been "classic" at all.

I rather them just perfect Sonic's gameplay, then start doing what Mario does and keep the basic controls, and just add something else just to make it a little different. God knows SEGA can handle everything else that the game needs.

Now, if SEGA wants to make money, they should start selling sexy pin-up calanders of Dr. Eggman. There's a special one for Easter.

It sounds like that plan would work to please both Classic and Modern Sonic fans, but it sounds like it would end up being complicated and confusing having too much going on. To have different styles of play, Sega is already doing that between 2D and 3D in recent games, even mixing the two even. I disagree with the need of having both Classic and Modern Sonic.

I've said this before and I'll say it again: after Sonic Generations I don't ever want to see Classic Sonic again. Having two Sonics is too many, with Sonic Generations being an exception, which worked out fine. Sega and Sonic Team has been heading in the right direction with recent games and the last thing they need to do is step backwards to please the Classic fans. Honestly I think the Classic fans need to get over it. Everyone in the Sonic fandom can't possibly be pleased. Modern Sonic is who Sega wants to use so we should go along with it, as long as they don't mess things up like the physics.

But as for the topic at hand, I don't really think that is the best of ideas. They're already kinda going separate ways with 2D/3D as it is with titles like Sonic Colors and Sonic the Hedgehog 4; any further separation between the two by giving Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic their own individual series would be unnecessary. As for meeting new friends, due to taking in feedback of both critics and fans alike the developers have come to consensus that the inclusion of supporting characters and narrative in a video game inherently makes it bad, so I wouldn't hold your breath if you're hoping to see more of them in the future.

Assuming they can actually get the classic gameplay right, I'd totally be up for it. It's too good a style to just let die, and I'd love to see more of it.

I would like it if they threw canon to the wind and made the series sorta like the Legend of Zelda, where the age in the game is almost completely random, being either Classic or Modern.

EDIT: Not so much as throwing canon to the wind, more of just creating another timeline or something.
