Watches... No Eyes...

I'm sure a lot of us know of a certain fellow known as Slenderman. If you don't, are easily scared ad value sleep and hate paranoia, please go before it's too late/ If you love nightmares and crapping your pants please continue.

So you know how Slenderman vlogs usually go. Person with a camera and a flashnight at a creepy place at night. Something looks like a tree, audio and visual distoorion starts blaring and then Oppy/Slendy shows and the persons freaks the fuck out and books it.

Well, you can be that person in a video game now.

Slender is a free downloadable game by Unfiction forums user, AgentParsec.

The game is simple. You are in a fenced in forests with creepy structures and rocks. Your goal is to get eight randomly generated notes. There are ten places where a note can be. Oh and Slendy is in the forest with you. With each note you get, Slendy gets more agressive in tracking you. It is very important to keep checking behuind you and running only when needed as you have a stamina bar.

There are no scripted movemednts or scares for Slendy. He moves according to the AI and as such is completely randome. He can be anywhere at any time and is usually following you directly after a certain number of notes.

Since the game is viewed from a camera the protoganist is holding, everytime Slendy is near, static will start to form or even quickly appear loudly. the longer you look at him, the worst it gets. Until the screen is fully static with only Slenderman's face in it up close. Also, if he gets close enough, he will turn you around so keep as much distance as possible.

At the moment it's basically a proof of concept and only in beta. how ever it's absolutely horrifying so check it out.

If you are too scared to play it, like I am, you should still check out the let's play by Sinuyan whose calm demeanor and kind voice makes the game fun to watch. He has videos of each version so you can see how it is progressing..

IGN has done two very positive articles on the game and a commentary. I can only find one though.

I was actually considering on making a topic on this. But you probably made the topic better then I would have.

Also, you know what your reward is for getting all of the notes?

^ and your post is rather pointless, so if you have nothing to say about the game then I suggest not posting in this topic.

Speaking as someone who watched a lot of Marble Hornets' Slender Man video entries on YouTube, I find myself completely fascinated by the possibilities a genuinely good Slender Man game might present.

Is this that game? Could be...

For now, it's just a proof of concept. It's very simple and the guy's currently thinking of a way to be able to get it on Steam for some money. He seems to be wanting to continue to do more with it and I am excited to see how it goes. Even for a beta and a proof of concept, it's amazingly horrifying and really evokes the feel and tone of Marble Hornets and other such Slender vlogs.

Here the thread for the game, Agent Parsec made himself on Unfiction. Drop by and give advice, critiques, thoughts and the like.

Some of my friends introduced me to the game the other day, I like what I've seen so far. My current best is 4 notes.

So, did anyone else notice Toonami talked about the game on Saturday? That was kind of a shock, considering I didn't expect coverage of a prototype experimental game. I'll probably not play the game though because, I'm a blubbering wimp.

I watched IGN's video a few weeks ago and thought it was pretty impressive for a demo with such a simple scenario and limited visuals. I like that you're completely helpless and are forced to search potential traps like the bathroom just to progress.

It's a great concept broguth out, and I'm happy it's getting a lot of attention. Though I will admit I'm also a tad jealous, literally two weeks before this came out I was thinking about what game I should work on once I'm done with my current project, and I decided to work on a game where you go through a forest with a ghost story as a monster with randomized effects stalked you while you went around collecting several things trying to survive. I even was thinking slenderman was a good basis, since his origin is from an old folkstory about a man with extremely long limbs that would grab and drag children who got close to the forest away and would never be heard from again. Of course, two weeks after I decided this was going to be my next project, Slender releases, and it's nearly identical to my idea (I don't think they stole it, of course, and there are big differences-I wasn't actually going to use Slenderman, just that type of monster but a non-established one, and you were going to be collecting talisman, not notes).

However, the indie scene has been a growing inspirational pool of horror games that continually prove that people are excited for a good horror game and it doesn't need a high budget to be done. The most important thing about horror will always be concept and execution, and Slender has a concept it executes wonderfully. One thing that this also shows, which is part of my horror game design theory, is that complexity isn't needed for a goof horror game. Back in the hayday of horror games, a problem was that horror games would often be overly complicated with their adventure-game roots. Puzzles that were more frustrating that interesting or fun, the infamous 'You collect this to get that to open this that leads to that which gives you this that opens that back where you came from' formula, which is more archaic way to deal with horror level design.

For those who haven't tried it, I do heavily recommend it.

I played it, it's not that scary in my opinion. I've seen people scream their heads off but honestly it was an ok experience but nothing more.

Funny, Malduin proved that Slendy doesn't want $20... Mainly by running up to him and handing him a note. Slendy looked more confused than anything.

Speaking of which, does the Slender Man even have a definite body count to speak of? Considering the stuff I've seen concerning Slendy, all he really seems to do is stalk people. The only instances I know of where he's directly inflicted harm was in self-defense after someone had the gall to try and actually attack him.

My friend just introduced me to this game. It is very creepy, indeed. I had no idea about Slender nor its story of origin, thus all I knew was that I was walking alone in a dark place with a flashlight. After picking up a note, this creepy silhouette of a guy appears not far from me and seems to follow me, so I walk away slowly, not having learned about the (still slow) running feature yet. I picked up another note, and suddenly, he was right next to me, and the game ended.

The second try, I wandered around for ages. I never saw him directly, but my screen kept having static, so he must have been near! I approached a house and a toilet-y area. I hesitated in going in there, those narrow corridors. I went in there to find my second note, and I was so scared to go back out. What if he stood there in the narrow corridor, waiting for me? Luckily, he was not, but he was still nearby. My flashlight ran on low batteries, to the point it wasn't really useful at all. Not long after, it shut off completely, and I wandered around in pitch darkness, almost walking right into his arms several times. That guy sometimes appears right next to you. Creepy bastard. D;

Small, but exciting and creepy game. However, I will not play more tonight if I appreciate my sleeping pattern.

I spent my first minutes of this game just wandering around aimlessly, and I found nothing but trees. I didn't find a single note before Slendy apparently caught me. Didn't find anything on my second run either. It actually made me doubt if the notes even existed, but I did watch a walkthrough afterwards so yeah.

My first impression was that I didn't like it, but other people seem to think it's great, so I guess I'm just bad at these exploration games? Kind of a shame, since I love Slenderman and really wanted to get somewhere with the game D:

EDIT:

seems like more lame internet shit to me.

What kind of post is this coming from you, who was a few weeks ago calling out PsychoJosh for bashing Hatsune Miku mindlessly?

I'm scared easily by stuff like this, so I wandered around and I got so creeped out I quit before he even appeared. I might try it again...

Are the notes' locations randomized? Because I can swear the notes I found on my first playthrough was not in the same location on my second one. I think.

So the first time I played this, I was too much of a wimp to play at night, so I did it during the day. I only got about 2 notes before he started appearing. And I looked at him like a dumbass for too long before he got me.

Second time I actually go pretty far. After the 4th note that mother-fucker started appearing everywhere, It's like I couldn't turn my head anywhere but forward or else I'd see him. I grabbed the note that was on those weird tall boulders/rocks, turned around, walked about 10 feet before out of nowhere he POPPED up. No warning, no static, just popped up and killed me. Almost made me shit my pants when he showed up. It was something like this

Third time I got up to 4 notes before he got really aggressive. I guess I taking too long because I was walking outside the bath house when he turned me around and got me.

This game is pretty scary at times, but it's really fun. Those who haven't played it yet really should.
