Is it just me, or is there something profoundly tragic about that?

USA beat Columbia in Women's football and it looks like Great Britain (who just scored another goal) is going to win their match against Cameroon with the current score being 3-0.

Edit: Great Britain wins 3-0.

I'm looking forward to the Michael Phelps vs Ryan Lochte swimming match. Phelps barely qualified for the finals too and it would have been an embarrassment if he hadn't.

That was my favorite song during the opening ceremony! I'm so glad someone uploaded it!

Ryan Lochte wins the Men's 400m Individual Medley in swimming and Michael Phelps gets in 4th place.

Right, day one summary.

The first gold medal of the 2012 Olympics went to China's Yi Siling, in the women's 10m air rifle event. Of the 12 finals today, China have medalled in 6 of them, inclding two golds in the pool.

The road race was a huge disappointment for the Brits, after so much hype for Mark Cavendish the leading pack bolted early and caught him off-guard. That gold went to Kazakhstan.

As Kevin said, Loche claimed his first gold, watched by Michelle Obama, with Phelps coming fourth. I don't think anyone expected Phelps not to at least medal, so who knows how he'll respond.

Tensest moment I've seen today is the Men's Team Archery final. I literally only saw the final two shots. The last guy for Italy needed to score a bullseye to win the Gold. He made it, by milimetres, incredible.

And, as for random moments, I just saw a women's table tennis 2nd round match, between some Dane and some Pole who had lost one of her forearms (I didn't even notice for 30 minutes). It went to the final game, and was 9-9, damn close and great entertainment. The Pole won, by the way.

Day One over...bring on Day 2!

Great day for USA women's teams. Soccer (football), basketball, and volleyball all won their matches today. I haven't watched the phelps and loche race, but like most people I'm surprised by the news.

Medal count so far is China in first with 6 and Italy and USA tied with 5.

Italy has been very impressive today. First they narrowly beat USA in Men's Archery, then they end up winning all 3 medals in the Women's Individual Foil in Fencing. Well done, Italy!

Well, two days into this thing and I'm already staying up until at least 1 every night. With 8 channels of Olympicy goodness, there's just so much to watch! Currently got it on the Gymnastics - probably my favourite event of the whole games. The women can do some fancy flips, and the guys aren't that bad either... ;)
So far we're about 8th on the tally. Just got one gold medal so far in the swimming. Ah well, early days. I expect many more to come!
Also, Mark Cavendish is a whiny bitch.

So theres an investigation going on as it turned out some random woman ended up walking with the Indian team during the opening ceremony.

That woman in red? She's not an athlete, nor is she a member of the Indian team, aparently she was in the opening ceremony, but shouldn't have been there at that time.

To be fair Chibi, there are a lot of elements to road racing, and if the peloton decided to hang back then there's nothing the GB team could've done. Whether or not that was on purpose, who knows.

Wow! That was great 100m relay Swimming match! France won it right in the end! I also can't believe Senegal beat Uruguay in Men's Football today as well.

Currently watching the Great Britian vs UAE. Great Britain scored a great goal just a few moments ago.

Edit: Great Britain wins it 3-1.

Edit: Holy shit! Honduras beats Spain in Men's football! What an upset!

First 2 medals for Team GB in Silver and Bronze in Womens Cycling and 400m Freestyle(?)

Congrats to to Team GB Mens and Womens football (the Womens team certainly look like a force to be reckoned with). Oh and Womens Hockey 4-0 against the japanese was a respectful score.

Not a bad day overall.

The Women's 53kg Group A Weightlifting was a tad disorganized: they totally fucked up the graphics, both on the TV feed, and even on the screens in the venue. They were displaying the wrong weights, calling out the wrong contestant and getting one to attempt a second lift twice (possibly even having loaded an incorrect weight for one of them).

Actually, thinking about it, there was a Polish lifter who's probably at her last ever Olympics. They fucked the display for her first two lifts, messed her about by calling her out and then sending her away while they try and fix it, called her up for her third and final try, gave her the wrong timer, then after all that they admit they might have given her an incorrect weight on one lift. So they give her a fourth go, call her up for it, make her wait for ages, then send her away again saying she won't get the fourth after all.

The fuck? :(

So the Olympic committee have been very strict considering the sales of any merchandise that have anything to do capitalizing the games. So far these have been out of bounds:

The Olympic Symbol (the five interlocking rings)
The Olympic Motto (Citius Altius Fortius’ / ‘Faster Higher Stronger’)
Olympic (s)
London
Games
Summer
Two thousand and twelve
2012
Twenty Twelve
Medals
Gold
Silver
Bronze

And people have decided to get creative to promote merchandise:

Love it, really gets me in an Olympic mood.

I've got a question for you all... after all the fuss that people made about it, and all the defending the organisers did... has anyone seen this image at all during the olympics? I don't think I saw it once during the ceremony, I've not seen it in any venues or even on tv feeds. Got the mens atheletics on right now, and I can't see it there either...

The image? Oh... this one...

Spoiler

Anyone seen that at any venue? Yes it's on the merch, but at the actual games itself? Nope not seen it... I have however seen that "London 2012" text logo all over the place and at every venue. You'll know it when you see it, it's written on everything that they use.

Posted Image

Who else thinks they're finally admitted that the logo was shit and have subsituted it for this much better one?
