Here's the 24 minute-long interview, some lag and and piano playing at the beginning, live recording so sorry it couldn't be better, but there you go.

EDIT: Geh, meant to edit... Sorry for the Double Post...

We might use this on Seganerds, if that is alright with you? Who gets the credit for this?

Just fine by me, sorry for the horrible loud piano music and clicking at the beginning though, and credit as Dusk Golem instead of the Rice, which is a theme thing. XD;

EDIT: The reason for the loud music was thanks to a live piano performance through the very begining, it might be best just to cut that off when they start, like the first four minutes, though they stop for the last 20 minutes of the interview. -_- It was grating on me too, believe me.

Ok awesome, Ill credit Dusk Golem, I won't cut anything off. I'm not 100% itll go up on Seganerds yet as one of the staff went to Summer of Sega himself and I don't know what he got, Although I'm going to make it into a flashy youtube video with trailers and so on with credit to you.

They seemed to be either happy or surprised at the requests for Ristar. I didn't expect them to react at all.

Whoa, I missed alot these past few weeks

*digs around ssmb in a fruitless attempt to catch up*

I really like what I am seeing from this game so far. I also am feeling good to all the comparisons to OutRun that are sprinkled all over the place. I never gave SST much of a second look, but I am really looking forward to this one.

I've come back from SoS'09, and I have to say I was impressed with the demo they had of the game.

The graphics, obviously look great. The frame-rate was a bit choppy in areas with alot of shadows but the guys at the booth said that won't be the case with the final version. The controls were really good, and drifting works really well. Other than that, I don't have much to say about the game itself.
Funnily enough, I ended up being the only person at the event to look at the wrong half of the screen for an extended period of time so I never got out of last place XD (I had the best lap time of the match I was in).

I'll be getting the game when it comes out hopefully.

I love the mindset they have for this game: "Because it'd be cool", and "Because it'd be fun." It's a mindset like this that makes awesome games like this.

I really have faith in the devs on this one, they really sound like they know what'd make a cool Sega Racing game.

Did anybody request Michael Jackson? Because seriously, one of you should have. I'm not too impressed that they felt Sonic Heroes was the most remembered game after Sonic 1 either, surely Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic Adventure or Sonic Adventure 2 would have been the most obvious choices after Sonic 1?... But yeah, I love the "because it'd be cool" mentality, more games need to be built like this.

I think he meant that Heroes was the closest thing to the classic games design wise.

The sneaky git, Sumo Digital guys said no recording of the game. I had a right game trying to stop them with M&S and during the time I staffed All Stars Racing.

I still can't believe I didn't spot that guy you mentioned. I was trying my best to help people out and keep an eye on cameras.

Don't worry, you had your work cut out for you as it was. That and he was stood quite a way back a bit so you probably didn't spot him past the people in the queue. It shows some people were sneaky enough to even get past Steve and Travis. It said on the wall not to film because the code wasn't final, though Travis told me that he really had no idea why people aren't allowed to record it really. Hopefully they wont mind and Mario & Sonic remains safe, though that bit was really secure with its face to the wall and both you and the SEGA guy there so I doubt there'll be anything of that.

I haven't kept track of this topic (so I dont know if its been mentioned prior to this), but when I saw that Sonic could use the emeralds as a power-up, I secretly considered that each character may be able to turn super...

A Super Billy Hatcher.......

When I read that post, I laughed. Every character has a unique "All Star" move. Billy Runs atop a Giant Egg, Samba makes other racers do a congo type thing and Sonic turns Super.

Here's some proper impressions of the demo at Summer of Sonic from me. XD

I played two 2-player games with my friend Edd on both Seaside Hill and the Billy Hatcher level. I think I came 4th on Seaside Hill playing as Sonic and then first on the Billy Hatcher stage when I played again later as Beat. The graphics look really nice and polished and the menu system is lovely. Each car has specific stats, something you can view by pressing 'Square' on the character select screen and you can also view stage stats by pressing the same button on the course select. R2 was to accelerate, L2 was to drift, R1 and L1 for tricks, X was to fire an item and Square was to look back. I also tried shaking the controller while in the air to trick out of sheer Mario Kart Wii habit- Steve noticed and said SixAxis motion will be used like that in the final version.

The weapons were wacky. Boxing Gloves acted as Green Shells so to speak, Rockets Red Shells, the Cones were basically Bananas, Speed Shoes acting as Red Shrooms and the coil was quite original turning the other players screens upside down! Courtesy of some chap sat watching I also learnt if you hold down 'X' if you posses more than one item you'll fire all three at once! I'm unsure about the Allstar moves, I mean I got one as Beat while I was in second place! A tad unfair, but it was bloody cool! He got on his skates and boosted off, allowing players to spray graffiti by pressing 'X' and pointing in the desired direction at other racers. Knuckles glides around when his allstar move is activated and players can tap 'X' to charge up his fist ready for an epic punch towards the ground, taking out any racers around him.

SASR is a bit more forgiving than Mario Kart too, with course fall-outs and item hits only slowing players down for a fraction of time. I felt that hitting a cone only slowed players down half the time a banana does in Mario Kart Wii. It takes a while to get used to the drifting, but it's really fun to use around long corners and you get a boost after each you do. I liked the little 'stall' mechanic they added if you land mid-trick. You can string together trick combos while in the air for a bigger boost when you land, however if you land in the middle of a trick you'll spin out and loose some speed!

I mentioned the good feedback Kotaku had gave them to Travis and he'd read it all right. They go on forums to read all of the feedback of course (I think he mentioned GameFAQ's, a heads up to SOL I guess, who I now realise was actually Steve) and they were pleased with the feedback they've received so far. His views on SASR when compared to Mario Kart were much like mine really, Mario Kart spawned a genre and they're simply diving into the same waters as that. I said if people do keep comparing it to Mario Kart then they should acknowledge it's Mario Kart on a 360 and PS3, something he laughed at and said it would be a good marketing line. XD

I noticed some errors in the game though, but seeing as though this is just a beta build there's bound to be some! Eggman's animations seemed to spazz out after he won a race. He'd jump out of his car and do his winning pose from Superstar Tennis, but kinda twitch around a bit in mid-animation. The game would hang a few times too, most likely because of un-optimised code and you could certainly tell, on two player at least, the race wasn't running at 60fps. They were using what I assume was place holder art too, the Sonic and Knuckles arts were taken directly from Sonic 06 I believe.

The two major questions I asked Travis whilst playing, actually, it was more telling him then asking now I think about it. XD I said it'd be a cool idea to include Xbox Avatars and Nintendo Mii's in their respected versions and he nodded saying 'Yes, that would be awesome' with a look on his face as if to say they've already considered it. He did the same when I mentioned adding Axel from Crazy Taxi in it, though I know he couldn't tell me even if they had already done that. He said half the characters have been announced so far and there's four out of the twelve still to be revealed that'll really surprise SEGA fans apparently. Wonder who they can be!

12 sounds like a good number of characters. I really enjoyed the game and the temporary upside down screen item is awesome. Good to hear they are working on Sixaxis motion for the mid-air tricks, I was hoping they'd do that.

I think he said 12 was half, so that's 24 characters in all! XD How many where in SEGA Superstars Tennis, I can't remember... Regardless, it's a heck of a lot of racers if they're all individuals and not clone characters like in SST.

Sounds great! I love the ideas for the items. I was a bit worried about original ideas, but what you've described so far sounds promising.

Also, did the game feel/look any faster than the E3 build?
