This topic will be a bit different from the norm I think. This topic is merely for speculation and hypotheticals, nothing more... nothing less, just have fun with it.

Okay, where I'm trying to get at is.... What one game developer, team, or whatever... do you feel will do best in today's video game market if they were to release their own console and go first party and why? (No SEGA please, we get enough of that already)

Who do I personally think will fair well if they were to enter the console market? I personally feel Capcom would. Let us assume that the whole DLC fiascoes and cancelling everything Megaman wasn't existent... I feel they have a wide array of interesting IP's to move a console. They have Megaman, who is that classic, easily memorable character that's popularity compares to that of Mario and Sonic and gamers new and old would recognize. They have plenty of IP's that appeal to the mature audience with games such as Resident Evil, Dead Rising, Lost Planet, famous in Japan Monster Hunter, Devil May Cry, and much more that could carry the console.

I just feel that, despite their more recent "business practices," if that wasn't the case, they could release a console and carry it pretty far and I feel it would compete well against Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft's recent/future consoles.

So... who do you feel will fair relatively well in today's day and age of the console war if they were to release their own and why? (handhelds count too)

Discuss!

If not for their recent anti-consumer garbage I'd probably buy a Capcom console as well.

As for my own pick: Atlus, easily. They're pretty much the only ones who I think would be up for the job (derp. Other than Valve, I mean). They consistently develop the greatest games in the industry internally, and always manage to find great games to publish. I have no doubt that if I had to choose between consoles, I'd go with Atlus.

Another really good pick would be Valve, as I'm sure multiple people are going to mention. They've already got Steam, so a console wouldn't be too hard to get off the ground. I'd honestly say they're the likeliest pick, and that's definitely a good thing.

But but but I really do want to say Sega.

Oh fine then. I second your Capcom idea. While they're current business decisions seem a bit iffy, they have an ass-ton of fantastic IP's that could easily establish themselves on their own console. Megaman, Street Fighter, MvC, Darkstalkers, Resident Evil, Ghosts n' Goblins, Viewtiful Joe, Phoenix Wright, Dead Rising, and probably others that I'm forgetting.

As much as I agree... Atlus doesn't seem to have that "mainstream" grasp on the video game market for a console. What do I mean by that? Despite their games being awesome.. I feel they catch the attention of older gamers/anime fans. I can't see older (40+) and children really getting into what they publish/develop. Can that change overtime? Of course. I hope you get where I'm trying to get at XD Than again... I could be horribly wrong, which I hope I am... cuz Atlus is awesome

I knew someone would bring up Steam sooner or later XD alas... you speak the truth

Valve.

Because having Steam and its ridiculous sales on a Gabecube would be the greatest goddamn thing ever. And my PC is rather bollocks, so it'd be nice if all the games I buy on Steam look nice... I had to cut quite a few corners to get Borderlands up and running at a respectable framerate.

Valve, I suppose. I probably wouldn't/couldn't buy it, but I feel like as long as the bumped up the game output, it'd do pretty well.

Also Capcom sucks soggy dicks.

Well, that's why I said Valve is a much more likely contender. The thing with Atlus is that despite me just really enjoying their games, the best part about them is easily the fact that they're just really good at PR. They listen to their fans, and they know what they want. For that reason, I'd trust that they would dominate E3 with some actual fucking games as opposed to wands, tablets, and Nintendurrland.

Sgea nedd to maek da dreemcast 2 wit sanik avencha tree and beet the others consols liek nintenderp cuz seag dos wat nintendont!!!

I would go with Valve maybe. I'd love to have a Gabensphere 360 (see what I did there? Eh?) that you can download from Steam on because I will never have a computer that can run Steam. Physical release would be great too.

What everyone else said, a Steam-powered Valve console. They just seem to "get" the gaming industry and it would be awesome to have Steam games on a GabeBox 360. Maybe throw in some physical releases as well.

A Capcom console could do well. I would pick it up day one just for the fact it would be the only place to play Resident Evil games alone.

In terms of Valve, It would be interesting to see how they would do a console. Having Steam could give them a good advantage but of course they would lose pretty much all of the games due the console not running Windows or Mac OS. I think Sony should be looking into doing some sort of deal with them what with them incorporating Steamworks and cross platform play into the PS3 versions of Portal 2 and CS:GO. If the PS4 could have some sort of Steamworks incorporated into the system itself, that could make it stand out from Xbox 720 and Wii U.

Would an Activision console do well? I mean it would have an absolutely killer app in Call of Duty but then again CoD going single platform would probably kill a lot of sales. :S

If Capcom made a console, all we'd get is Resident Evil games and fighting game rereleases.

I agree with everyone saying Valve.

Uh... no? Capcom has plenty of IP's they could and WOULD use if they were to release a console. To say they would only release RE and fighting games is kind of a ignorant statement.

They have...

Resident Evil
Street Fighter
Megaman
Lost Planet
Devil May Cry
Viewtiful Joe
Okami
Bionic Commando
Strider
Ghost and Goblins
Final Fight
Monster Hunter
Breath of Fire
Phoenix Wright
Power Stone
Dark Stalkers
Dino Crisis
Onimusha

and much more. Yeah, I know that a lot of these properties haven't been used in a while or haven't been "relevant" for a while but the potential is there.

I agree. Though I doubt it would happen, a Steam console would be nice. Also your avatar is hypnotizing.
