After Super Mario Land 2: The Six Golden Coins Nintendo decided to make Wario the star of the next Super Mario Land game.

Posted Image
In 1994 we got the third game in the Super Mario Land series but it was called Wario Land and the Mario Land name was only in the sub-title.

In Wario Land the story was that you were trying to get enough money to buy a castle better then Mario's. In his quest Wario went up against the Brown Sugar Pirates led by Captain Syrup.

The game played like a Mario game somewhat but Wario controls differenly then Mario. Wario's like a tank. He's really tough and if an enemy touchs him it will flip over onto it's back . The only enemies that Wario had to worry about were the enemies that had a weapon or spikes or some kind of projectile attack.

Wario had his own version of the Mario power ups.
A Garlic Pot would turn small Wario into normal Wario and turn normal Wario into Bull Wario.
A Bull Pot would turn you into Bull Wario who has a ground pound attack and can use the horns in his helmet to stick to the ceiling.
A Jet Pot turns Wario into Jet Wario who can glide through the levels for a short time.
And the Dragon Pot turns Wario into Dragon Wario who can shoot fire out of his helmet.

The next Wario Land game came out for the failed system called the Virtual Boy. It plays like the first Wario Land game. In this game Wario's trying to get the treasure in the Awazon River. This is the only good game for the Virtual Boy.

Wario Land 2 came out for the Game Boy in 1998 and the Game Boy Color in 1999.
Captain Syrup and her gang steal Wario's treasure, and Wario chases them to get it back.

In this game Wario can't die. If he gets hit he just loses coins, and if he has no coins you still can't die.
In Wario Land 2 Wario gets powers when he's attacked by certain enemies. For example if Wario is set on fire he becomes Fire Wario.

Wario Land 2 has a lot of different story paths and endings, and every level has a treasure mini-game and the end of every level has a picture panel mini-game. You need to collect all the treasures and pieces of the picture panel to unlock the real last level.

Wario Land 3 came out in 2000. In this game Wario gets trapped inside a music box world. He meets a mysterious figure who tells Wario that he'll return him to his own world if he can get the five music boxs needed to restore his power.

Wario Land 3 plays a lot like Wario Land 2. Again Wario can't die, and again certain enemies can transform him.

Wario Land 4 came out in 2001.In this game Wario has health and can die but there are no lives. And again certain enemies can transform Wario.

In this game Wario goes to the Golden Pyramid to look for the treasure. In every level you need to find the Jewel Pieces and Keyzer(a ghost like creature who has a key for a nose). At the end of every level there is a switch that you need to hit to open the portal that will let you leave the level. You only have a certain amount of time to get to the portal. If time runs out you lose coins, and if you lose all your coins you die.

The newest Wario Land game came out in 2008. It's called Wario Land Shake It. In this game Wario enters the Shake Dimension to get the Bottomless Coin Sack. Captain Syrup also returns in this game.

In this game Wario again has health and certain enemies can transform him. At the end of most levels there is a Merfle Barrel that has a Merfle inside. Freeing the Merfle will cause a countdown timer to start and just like Wario Land 4 you have to get back to the start of the level.

So what does everyone think about the Wario Land series? And what are your favorite Wario Land games? For me my favorite is the first one.

Would uprep, but out of likes.

I, sadly, have not played Wario Lands 1 and 3. I need to get ROMS soon. I think my favorite Wario Land is probably 4, but Shake It!/5 was really amazing, if not extremely difficult. WarioWorld and the WarioWare Inc. series are also amazing. Everything Wario does is amazing. -gush- I would absolutely LOVE to see a sequel to WarioWorld on the WiiU. I would ruin my panties.

I love his personality. He's one of the few Nintendo characters who gives exactly zero fucks about anyone but himself (save a few cases). He saves the princess, decides she isn't hot enough, tosses her over his shoulder, then proceeds to get money. Wario is LITERALLY the definition of "Fuck Bitches, Get Money".

GOD I LOVE THIS CHARACTER AND THESE GAMES

This thread is unintentionally hilarious.

Wario Land 1 is a fun game, but very slow paced. Wario Land 2 is the peak of the series, I think, before things got far too complicated in Land 3. The fourth game is also good, and probably the second best; I just wish there was a bit more variety to the objectives in the game.

"Shake It!" was a pretty big disappointment. Far, far, far too easy, and completely unmemorable. I rented the game and beat it within a handful of days, and I do not remember a single thing about it other than that the animation was good, and Captain Syrup had an item shop. A complete waste of time and money for all involved, in my opinion.

I'm sure many people don't find the game as boring as I do. Hell, my favorite platforming series is DKC, and a lot of people say those games bores them.

I haven't played any Wario games, since I'm not a fan of Wario.
So, this doesn't interest me. I might play Super Mario Land 3, that has Wario playable and not Mario (Why is it called SML3?) :/

Wario Land 4 is the only one I've played (it was in the 3DS Ambassador thing).

It's fun. Wario feels powerful, and he's got a good variety of moves (both inherent and through transformations) leading to some nice puzzle-platforming. He's also surprisingly fast, which meshes well with the gimmick of running back to the start of the level before the timer runs out. The levels are creative and each one feels distinct in both gimmicks and theme. And it's nice sometimes to just do away with good and evil and fight monsters purely for personal gain.

The worst I can say about it is that there's some fiddly issues with picking up things which leads to it feeling pretty clumsy at times, especially in tight spaces, but it's not a particularly huge concern; it's a very good game overall.

I don't play a game to 100% completion unless it actually interests me. I practically fell asleep completing the main campaign. Unless the extra end-game content produces gold bricks that I can sell for cash money and buy a more entertaining game, I could care less.

Making a boring game more challenging doesn't make it any more fun. It just becomes even more tedious.

I've only played 4 and Shake It!

4 is a very fun game. Not the most memorable, but it's a good time. I liked the mix of puzzles and platforming in comparison to Mario's pure platforming. Also, the first boss was creepy as hell, which is hilarious.

Shake It! had beautiful animation, but I didn't find the gameplay as fun. It seemed kinda bland compared to 4.

The best thing to come out of Shake It! was this:

Shake it, indeed.

Wario's never engaged me from a character standpoint, so I don't really care about him.

I own 6 Golden Coins though (not played since I'd need to get out my old GBA for it), and I own and have played Wario Land 4. It was...okay, but I wouldn't say that it was memorable, or that interesting in the long run.

Wario Land 3 was baby's first Metroidvania for me. I don't recall thinking much of it at the time (I mean, I liked it okay, but it didn't exactly blow my mind), but in hindsight I've come to realize that it's been a major influence on my taste in games, and a pretty great play in and of itself. I mean, it's certainly aged a lot better than most of the other games on the GB/C.

Wario Land 4 is also a lot of fun, and probably a better game overall than 3, although I can't really directly compare them since I haven't played either in a pretty long while. I've never touched the first or second, though (or even Six Golden Coins, weirdly), and while I've had my eye on Shake It! for a while, I haven't gotten around to picking it up yet.

I certainly enjoyed Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 for being a different beast to the previous two entries in the Super Mario Land series, as well as the unique power-ups that we have yet to see again in a Wario game. I want those hats back so I can fry enemies with a dragon on my head, dammit! The only downside is that, having played it again on the 3DS VC recently, it doesn't feel like it's really aged well. Wario feels very stiff and clunky, not only in comparison to Mario in the other games, but also to himself in the later Wario Land games.

Wario Land 2 is arguably the best in the series. The whole invincible Wario concept is one that works and adds a new layer of depth to the game as you're no longer just trying not to die, you have to work out specific ways of getting round things otherwise you'll just keep getting knocked back. Definitely one of the finest Game Boy Color games and, in contrast to Wario Land, it has stood the test of time on the 3DS VC as far as I'm concerned.

I can't remember Wario Land 3 all too well, though I'm fairly sure it was a weaker experience than Wario Land 2. Still very good, mind, just somehow lacking. I'll have to wait until Nintendo inevitably release that on the 3DS VC too before I can fully judge it once again.

Wario Land 4 is probably my favourite of the series. It was one hell of a debut for the greedy anti-hero on the Game Boy Advance with tight controls and a very cool art style. The mission objectives may have been a bit repetitive but I sure had a great time with this game and it's one that I can happily go back to at any time for a quick playthrough.

Finally, Wario Land: The Shake Dimension (thank god Nintendo changed that stupid "Shake It!" subtitle for Europe :P). It was a bit like Wario Land 4 in a way - the mission objectives were a bit repetitive (again basically a case of "get to the end and then run like hell back to the start") and the art style was gorgeous (we need a Wario anime and we need it NOW!)... however, the gameplay did feel like it was missing something. All the ingredients were there for an epic new Wario Land game but for some reason that magic just didn't sparkle as much as it usually does. It's still a good game in my view and one that I'm sure I'd play again, but by no means the highlight of the series.

Now, we wait until Wario Land 5... actually, come to think of it, where does the Virtual Boy Wario Land fit into all this? Or the Gamecube's Wario World for that matter? Do we consider them standalone titles or a part of the Wario Land series? They're not a separate franchise like WarioWare but... oh, whatever.
