Before we start talking about the game, let's have a test for who have not heard of it. If you only thing you knew about this game was the title and this image what would you think this game was about?

If you said advertising Skittles, you are correct.

Darkened Skye is a 2002 third-person action-adventure shooter video game for the PC and Nintendo GameCube, devolved by Boston Animation. In this game you play as Skye who finds a Skittle a source of magic and now must bring the rainbow back to the land of Lynlora.

The gameplay is like an average action game, go into dungeon, solve puzzles, avoid hazards, that kind of stuff. You can also use combinations of Skittles to cast spells.

So other then the odd premise what did me and other people bought who it generally think of this game, average. Okay graphics, okay gameplay, okay story and bad controls, this game is just okay. The one thing it does very well is humor, lampshade various things such why a Skittle that been in a monster belly doesn't look disgusting and frequently breaking the fourth wall.

So Darkened Skye is an average game with a strange premise.

What are your thoughts of this game?

I remember reading about this game ages and ages ago. By the time I finally ran into it on a Gamestop's dirt-cheap GCN games shelf, I'd completely forgotten whether it was supposed to actually be any good or not and decided not to bother with it (and, y'know, I was a little more interested in the copy of the Gamecube version of Twilight Princess I'd also found).

Having seen a couple of gameplay videos since... yeah, even for basically pocket change, I'm not too torn up that I missed my shot at owning it. It seems like a nifty oddity, and certainly better than it has any business being, but it still looks pretty cruddy.

From the cover, the game looks like it's about a girl who explores caves with a torch.
