This story is about a pony who owns a porn shop...

...

Yeah...

But it's not a clopfic, not even close to one as far as I've read (Chapter 9), it escapes me why the author wanted to use such a setting (other than call for attention, give us some awkward laughs and have enough freedom to write whatever he wants).

Keep in mind before contaminating your eyes than while this isn't a clopfic the setting is as raunchy as it sounds, you have been warned.

Enter Sly Clop (I thought for a while who names a foal like that, but it's not so implausible as the main pony himself makes it look like), owner of a little porn shop in the darkest corner of Ponyville, things seem to go awful in his life, everything sucks and the closest thing he has to a friend is leaving to pursue his own dreams...

But everything is about to change when a (sort of) mint green unicorn comes to claim the job his friend left.

From this point onward the story becomes a quite sweet shipping story, I guess another reason ElMikkino chose this setting was to give more difficulties to the relationship, there is a lot of prejudice expecting for whoever decides to date the owner of a porn shop... I guess I should give the author credit for making this and not using the more typical (in this fandom) prejudice against homosexuality...

Of course, while the main story is relatively tame, the setting is still a porn shop (and the darkest corners of Ponyville), which means you should expect a lot of raunchy contented being shown (despite the main characters not being in the center of it, it happens around them). The most notable one being the gentlecolts club, which is the scene to quite a few scenes in the story so far.



While all in all it's a good shipfic, there are some problems, the first one is that with the exception of 2 chapters where the mane 6 appear the whole thing is hardly pony related, Mikkino uses characters like Lyra, Dr.Whooves and Bon-Bon in this story but their personalities are so different than the norm that they might as well be OC's (I don't have a problem with this, since background ponies are like our OC's to begin with, but I think some people could).


The second one is about how.... unpony-ish this feels, even considering the setting the whole thing looks like a story that happens to have ponies just to add to the awkwardness. (but that might be just me)

There is also some sort of side story going on with Dash (and I guess Fluttershy) but I'm not liking that one so far... Thankfully it deson't seem like it's going to be brought up often so I can ignore it.



I guess I should probably mention with I keep naming Zach Braff while talking about the fic... Well... I kind of read Sly's dialogue with his voice... Just for the lols. I use his voice for some OC's.... Sometimes, I also think with his voice, mostly while I'm having some intern monologue with that sad piano music playing...

Okay, first negative in this story so far for me... I really can't get behind SSaE's headcanon/Mythology, considering how little ponies know about Luna. Nightmare Moon, Star Swirl (the book he appears in has "obscure" in the title) Dragons (even if it's in a dead tongue you would expect Twi to have found something like that in Dragon Quest) the fact he portrays 3 fillies playing about those topics and having books about draconic lore and songs so accessible really clashes with my vision of the world...

Hell, the whole background of Twilight having 2 friends in Canterlot clashes a bit with canon (otherwise Celly wouldn't have pretty much ordered her to go to make friends in Ponyville, unless she never considered Lyra and Moondancer to be true friends, which I would rather not think about).



Other than that this story is still as powerful as ever, I almost point Nightmare Moon's putting the curse in Lyra and specifically in her as another flaw in my eyes (because, makes you question why she didn't do the same with other ponies) but I'm giving the author the benefit of doubt and expecting this to be explained later, I also can't wait to see what happens if ponies from other places come to Ponyville (read, Luna in Nightmare Night or Cranky after giving up in his search for Matilda, and a long etc.).



And who or what is morning dew?

Chapter 5:

Who's to know how much opportunity we'll have to truly shine in this life?

But so long as we can help it, we must never let ourselves become dull.

I see some people seem to call this "the boring chapters because there is no significant development in Lyra's quest", the author seem to consider them "the chapters where I whore out the fic until people stop loving it"... I call them the best chapters, this one and the third one. Mostly because he makes some incredible analysis about the mane 6, and because we can see how Lyra struggles in a daily basis with the curse, or rather, how she lives with it (since it's not a constant struggle, sometimes she even takes advantage of it).

And unlike the AJ one (which was more like a lovely piece about how the earth pony would pretty much become a sister for Lyra when the unicorn needed her), this one was depressing... Yeah I think that's the right word (my English is not that good if you haven't noticed yet)... Here we see Rarity fighting against an industry that opposes to everything she believes and... Fails... She can't succeed against it, she keeps doing her best and receives nothing.

And that made me tear up, it saddens me to see somepony like her not managing to impress Silver Seams and how the whole ordeal consumed her as the days went, how she is victim of her very own curse. I spend a lot of time channeling Lyra in this episode, watching how everything unfolds and even trying to do something but no matter what happened it wasn't enough to fully resolve the situation and how awful she felt about this... At the end she manages to cheer Rarity up but her problems are still there, her struggle to shine against that all consuming monster known as the fashion industry is still going, she still lives in a town where most ponies don't know her (and even if somehow they remember that dress, this isn't the victory the fashion pony yearned for).

It's so... Bittersweet... But I'm willing to say it falls more in the bitter side, since all what Rarity gained from this ordeal was the chance to make a dress of hers (truly of hers) for another pony, and maybe a bit of peace of mind, which we don't even know if it shall last because she is going to forget about this. (and I'm not sure how will she react if she ever sees a stranger wearing the sweater she made with so much effort for somepony).



But enough of the positives (so saying the fic is depressing is a positive?), let's get with things that I didn't like... First of all, I've already mentioned in chapter 4 how I couldn't get behind SSaE's headcanon in some of his previous episodes, so I'm going to center in this one...

Rarity changing her name is something I actually thought to be possible, even that her true name is related to jewelry... The part I just can't understand is how her whole family has a tradition of jewel enchanting and the like, while I can understand that Rarity could inherit some talents SSaE0s make it sound like every pony in her family followed this, which can't be true because of her mother (though that's debatable) and most importantly Sweetie Belle (who doesn't have anything related to jewelry and while she could have changed her name her talent for singing and the fact that unlike Rarity she doesn't even know what she wants in life sort of clashes with this story).

(BTW I loved that sort of brick joke with the great great grandmother)



But other than that... This was (and still is) a beautiful story, one that moved me like few others could...



ps: Oh, I almost forgot, I'm still (I mentioned this first on EqD) curious about Morning Dew, can't wait to see what that's all about.

My Little Alicorn: (Sequel!)

Completely unnecesary sequel?

Who cares, this fic is awesome.

This second story seems to be about prince Douche and his path to redemption...

There is not a lot to talk about right now, but it seems like Shinning Armor is going to play a part in this, as a weird kind of well intentioned villain.

Also, for all the times I compare this with VST, it's funny how polarizing both Luna's are regarding Douche.

The Third Generation:

I'm not sure what to think about the cosmic horror out of nowhere, I'm not sure if this was only done to incapacitate Celly for the future (there is still Luna but with one active sister she is probably going to be busy with kingdom duties from now on).

That and it seems like RD is getting discorded just by looking at Discord's statue, so far I don't get her logic (she is getting angry against the ponies who imprisoned him)... But I hope this gets explained later...



Oh yeah, and I'm liking one of the theories I've read about Star Catcher being the one Douche and Cadence come from.

Of Steam Gears and Wings:

Eh...

So... Douche went and made a pretty stupid decision from a strategical point of view... Or any other POV that isn't related to a madman or a complete idiot.

Basically, he got enough evidence to prove that the mane 6 are conspiring against him and instead of using his political power to get what he wants he pretty much went all out and started an extermination campaign against anything related to the elements...

Ugh.

The story is still great, but Douche is quite an idiot (I'm not sure why I'm surprised about this, I guess I expected a better villain... Well... Let's hope Bunnyhelm can fill that role).

In Her Majesty's Royal Service:

Still at an introduction... But now we got some magical Smartphones (which are likely to backfire somehow, Gray Mane made them)

It was a fun chapter, but I hope to see this adventure actually starting in the next episode.

And I guess that's it (there was another fic, but I don' t think it's worth talking about considering how it got canned 1/4 through the story)! Next week we will talk about BBBFF, (not) a zombie fic, some backstory to the elements, some Twilight/Fluttershy action (it's not shipping BTW) and a hat that let's you see through the past.

Hmmm, I still have yet to read My Little Alicorn. It's a long story right? If that's the case I have plenty of time this summer. Of course, I'll start with this sequel after I finish the first story.
