I feel like the answer should be obvious but can anyone tell me what the fanfic descriptor "shipping" means? I'm sorry, I just can't think of what it means!

Also, Derpy toy confirmed!

Shipping refers to stories about the romantic relationships between characters.

Okay, gotcha.

...

why is it called 'shipping' though?

Can this not be a Comic-Con exclusive thing though?

According to EqD comments the comic con exclusive ponies end up being sold at Hasbro's website once the convention is over, so even if you don't attend you can still grab one of these.

I'm actually considering getting one, wonder how much will it cost to send me one to Argentina - Middle of nowhere (no city in a 50 kilometer radius)?

EDIT:

I believe it comes from the term "ship" which is short for "relationship"

Not sure if the people who brought up the term knew some fans would be playing Battleship at some point in the future. Posted Image

EDIT 2:

VEDJ presents a crazy yet plausible (considering the internet) opinion...

This merits some research...

I think it originated in Pokemon. A bunch of anime Pokemon fans liked to pair Jesse and James together, so they called it the Rocketship as a play on words. It escalated from there.

At least, that's what I've heard of the origin of the term. Feel free to correct me if I've fucked up.

You see that's what bugs me. I really really want one, but I'm always late to the party in a manner of speaking and I probably won't be able to get one because of such.

I might just kill for ono... Did I mention I wanted one really bad?

It actually originates from the X-Files fandom. "Shippers" were people who wanted to see Mulder and Scully hook up, and "Noromos" were people who didn't.

Pokémon probably popularized the term, though.

Speaking of shipping, this article just popped up on EqD. Sort of a fandom study.

You know, the fact that the Derpy toy has no name on the box just reminds me of how silly I think this Derpy controversy is, considering, well...

This. :U I think this is way more offensive, yet I don't remember a huge fuss about it. ...but I was also really tiny when this episode aired originally.

That being said, it's cool to see that they made a toy of her! That's a pretty huge feat, given that the fanbase basically crated her in a sense.

Is Queen Chrysalis really an Alicorn though? It looks to me like all Changelings have wings and horns. Clearly she's the most powerful but how powerful is she had she not absorbed Cadence and SA's love? She seemed surprised that she was actually able to overpower Celestia...just what are those things anyways? They look pretty insectlike...

Different generation of moms nowadays. The Soccer Mom personality seems to be in these days and Bunny is BLATANTLY retarded. I am so happy to see a real official Derpy toy that actually looks really good too...I will get it one way or another

Also, fake and gaben but imagine if this monstrosity were true xD

Slow poking hard here.

I just finished Season 2. It was fun. Didn't have the same charm as the first season, but it was good, I'd watch it again sometime. My only complaint is it seemed to be catering to one side of the fanbase and not the other. The last episode was great though. Felt like a Disney movie and it was a good way to end the season.

Spoiler

I'm not really up to scratch with everything going on in this thread, been out of synch with the fandom lately.
So apologies if this post seems out of place.

Just dropped in once more to give my thoughts on this season.

I never really saw what the problem was with catering to the fans, honestly... This seems to be what most fans didn't like about this season... If anything, this was probably the reason I enjoyed this season more than the first. I personally had more problems with the "Depending on the Writer" problem some of the situations and characters had (Especially Rainbow Dash.)

Maybe I'm just spoiled by other shows/games/whatever that cater to their fanbases... *Shrugs*

Still, glad to hear you liked it. Yes, some bronies/fans can be obnoxious, but really pretty much every fanbase has its idiots to balance out with the levelheaded fans.
