TSS COMMUNITY RELEASE: The Sonic Stadium Music Adventure 2012

Right now, I have a few things to say about this....sweet piece of remixing pie.

First, "Submerged Scurry...for Aquarium Park" by KatamariParadox/NekoSolace.....I freaking love it. One of my favorite remixes on the whole album. Aquarium Park is one of my favorite levels (musically and aesthetically), especially the act she remixed. I feel her work is a little bit underrated, but there ya go.

Next, Rexy's contributions didn't disappoint at all, and it one one my personal highlights of the ablum. Remixing mostly levels that I usually never hear get remixed. "Chaos Intervention", "Tactile Snowfall", "Find the Computer Room!" and "Flicky's Night Out" are part of that group of best work she has done.

EAR didn't disappoint either; now I may not like Ocean Base in Sonic Advance 3, by God his 'Assault on the Ocean Base' was catchy, fast-paced and edgy. The beat gave it that sense of urgency that I like. Plus 'Barbara is a Wicked Bomber'......

One word: EPIC. Seriously, Sonic Rush is a soundtrack that barely has tracks that's not Back 2 Back getting that much remixing love (from what I gathered). Speaking of...

"Wrapped in Black ~ Gregzilla Mix" is, by far, one of the strongest entries personally on the whole album. Amazing work there. There's nothing more I can say, it's that good.

For now, one last thing; The Symphonic Games' "A Starry Night at the Disco" and NekoSolace's "House With a Vengenace" are two of my favorite techno/dance remixes on the album.

I have more to say, but college classes are calling me.

HEY CoN! I'm listening to "Up and Dawn" and it's so good! IDK, it's giving me a major SRB2 vibe, actually. xD

Oh man, thanks! It's FiG's favorite track of mine, too XD;

I'm pretty sure the SRB2-ness was prolly unintentional, but hey, if it sounds like good music, I'm game.

Also, this should be a pretty good time to say this. For everyone who already checked my tracks (and everyone who didn't), it's Glimmer Grove, not Cove. That was just a mistake on Viz's part. Fas, I'm expecting you to fix it for YouTube.

Also what was the track artwork for again? They ended up unused, to my knowledge...

Can I be the first one to say I didn't really like this one? No offense meant to any of you.

It just didn't feel as grand as I expect songs to be, not to mention most of it is techno, and when it is something like rock, it's usually too much at once. The only songs I really liked were the softer ones. This really feels like it's quantity over quality.

You can think of me as the asshole raining on the parade all you want.

Not just you. Admittedly I skimmed through the album as I've not really got the time to listen to 140+ songs right now, but there wasn't a lot that made me stop and think "oh wow, that was actually really good".

Of course, my opinion may change after I've had a chance to sit down and digest it fully. but on an initial impression I think the Community Album from last year was just better. It was more diverse, tighter, the way the tracks were organised was better...Taking nothing away from the guys who contributed, because there is a lot of music there. It just feels like every song that was submitted got accepted.

I'll try and use the rest of this week to listen to the album properly, and if my opinion is changed I'll let you know :) Congrats on the launch all the same, though.

I am genuinely enjoying this album so far. Granted, I am still on Act 1, but I am extremely surprised and pleased at the amount of polishing this album feels.

Maybe the remastering has something to do with it, but as much as you can put a bowtie on a pile of dung, it won't make it stink any less.

I already PM'd this to someone whose track has really impressed me, and I plan to PM some more, but basically: I got a keyboard recently and I have been trying to learn to play the guitar. You guys inspire me. I want to learn more and maybe, maybe one day I will have the hono(u)r of contributing to a project. I still have a LONG, LONG, LONG way to go before I can consider myself acceptable to be a part of a project of such magnitude.

Thank you. Everyone, thank you.

Gotta echo the quantity over quality sentiment from earlier. I already expressed this even before the project was done, and I am expressing this again. The tracks aren't bad but I feel people spread themselves too thin and in many cases aren't as memorable because of it compared to a lot of tracks that were made last year. I'd say the ratio of strong tracks to weak tracks is about the same as last year because of it, even though a lot of people have considerably upped their game since last year. The quality of the tracks in my opinion could be a lot better. There are some cases too where I feel the mixes to be lacking, coming across either very flat or tinny - favouring a lot of treble over bass it seems to me. Though that I think is just a personal preference but in some cases it works against the songs.

HOWEVER this isn't me trying to be an awful party pooper because of it. I am so far on Disc 5 and I have a few standout tracks already. I won't name all of them, but Jace's Crater remix so far has been my favourite as I am a total PSO fanboy and to hear someone tackle that track on here was great. All in all its still a great effort and I am glad people had fun doing it which really is all that matters in the end. I just was expecting I guess a huge leap forward compared to last year I guess.

I will listen through to the rest of the album though, I still have half of it to go through! Who knows maybe the second half will knock my socks off.

Okay, I just finished listening to the WHOLE thing. Even though what I said in my first post in this topic still applies, I am just much more amazed and appreciative of everyone's hard work after taking the time to listen to all 143 tracks. Even my niece and nephews enjoyed what they heard, as they recognized the music as being "Sonic music" and even some of the games the original tracks came from. They were even dancing to some of the tracks on occasion as I played the music. smile.png

A nice assortment of tracks actually gave me feelings of nostalgia, like the tracks pertaining to Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, for example. I haven't heard any of that game's music in over 19 years, so it was nice to be reminded of music that I heard many years ago, all with a twist.

I'm not the one usually to listen to a whole album of any kind, as I'll either jump around listening to random tracks or just start simply skipping ones that I don't like or sound good to me after listening to it for a few seconds. But that didn't happen at all with this album so the fact that I sat here for a total of 8 hours and listened to each and every track from beginning to end says a lot about how much I personally enjoyed this album.

I really didn't get the notion of quantity over quality with this album, and it being an issue personally, although I understand other members' stand on it. If anything, as I see it, the massive number of tracks allow multiple opportunites for the artists to share several of their works. The only problem that I see with having so many tracks is that is hard to boil down which ones are my favorite, especially when I found all of them good enough at least to listen to in its entirety. I'll have to listen to this album again to see if I find some favorites among the rest.

I feel as if I should thank and congratulate everyone again for making this wonderful album. I truly hope that this will continue to be a project that the SSMB community will continue to engage in for many years to come. smile.png

 OH STOP IT YOU <3333

I'm also surprised to see my Wrapped in Black mix on some people's favorites.  I was kinda nervous that that one wasn't up to snuff, but I guess it worked out!

Alright, time to get into my favorites. I just skimmed through again to find the ones that stood out to me.  Keep in mind that there was a crapload of awesome tunes, so don't feel bad if your song isn't on here.  These are in no particular order:

Deep Perplexity ...for Lost Labyrinth - by mikeblastdude - A simple yet effective upgrade to the original.  An awesome bassline and some great buildup really make this one pop.

Tactile Snowfall ...for White Acropolis - by Rexy - A super-smooth remix of White Acropolis that seamlessly blends in some His World for an extra layer of cool.  Plus I'm a sucker for some piano.

Unstability ...for Exterior Crater - by MasterJace - Not really sure how to express my opinion on this one, the chords just sound really.... other-worldly, I guess would be the best way to put it.  Just all-around sexy synth work.

Scarlet Red Rose [Original] - by TrickyWolfy - DAMN, this sounds awesome.  Beautiful and intense at once.  One of the many great originals on the album.

Empyrean Station ...for Flying Battery - by General Offensive - A really interesting take on Flying Battery.  The lower tempo and distinct main synth instruments make it an exciting take on the tune.

Blackout at the Carnival ...for Carnival Night - by BlitzChris - Like I said, I'm a sucker for piano.  I don't know how you managed to take such a silly song and make it into something so somber and beautiful, but you did it.  Great music box intro, too.

Depth Cove Suite [Original] - by The Symphonic Games - This song just really clicks with me for some reason.  Something about it sounds very reminiscent of soundtracks from the mid-90s, which always strikes a chord with me.

Desperate Battle in Robotnik's Void of Emptiness ...for Final Fight - by Dizcrybe - The psychadelic....nesss.....of the original is amplified in this awesome take on the 3D Blast final boss theme.  Definitely fitting for the scene.

Maybe in Distance, But Never at Heart ...for Casinopolis - by VizardJeffhog - HNNNNGGGGGGHH.  A beautiful take on an underrated gem from my favorite soundtrack ever.  Did I mention I like piano?

Metal Mettle ...for Collision Chaos - by sonicsneakers - Ultra-relaxing.  Just puts me in a great mood listening to it.

Underwater Maze Escape ...for Lost Labyrinth - by General Offensive feat. Joshua Taipale - Ooh, Lost Labyrinth is on a roll!  This one has some absolutely kickass guitar work.  Definitely head-bang worthy.

Heroes In The Sky ...for Sky Fortress - My main complaint for the Sonic 4 Episode 2 soundtrack was that the songs were hindered by the crappy instrumentation, even when the compositions were good.  This remix fixed that for Sky Fortress.  Great instruments and an adrenaline-pumping percussion track.

Barbara is a Wicked Bomber ...for Unknown - by EAR - EAR proves once again that he is a master of sampling, and everything else about it is great as well.  Hideki Naganuma would be proud.

But if I had to pick one song over all the rest (and that is not easy), it would have to go toooooooooooo:

The Mystic Park ...for Aquarium Park & Mystic Mansion - by TrickyWolfy - Oh my good golly garsh, this one amazes me.  It takes two of my favorite Sonic tracks - two that I would never in a million years would have thought to combine - and meshes them wonderfully.  Great choices of synths and a fantastically creative arrangement of two already-wonderful tunes.

For that, and for all of her other songs that each bring something awesome to the table, TrickyWolfy wins the coveted Gregzilla's Musician of the Year Award Which I Totally Did Not Make Up Just Now To Sound Important.

I don't like to toot my own horn, but if I were to choose which one of my own remixes was my fave, I'd go with Hot Head Reef.  I personally think that's the best remix I've done, so that'll be the one I try to top in the future.

Congrats to everyone who was a part of this amazing collaboration.  Each and every one of you contributed something special.  Can't wait to do it again!

It's finally out! :D Everyone did a phenominal job. I can't even begin to try to choose favorites because I think everyone brought their A-game and really gave it their all. I WILL say, however, that as terrific as last year's album was, this album shows miles of improvement. My only regret is that I could have contributed more :/

Oh, to clarify since I didn't list them out right last time, my fave Act 1 tracks were:

The 90's Rave Scene As You Truly Imagined It ...for Sky Fortress - Dizcrybe

Tactile Snowfall …for White Acropolis - Rexy

First of Many Final Showdowns ...for Final Zone - Marvin Valentin feat. Joshua Taipale

Interlude ~ When Star Meets Pac ...for Shooting Ristar [feat. Pac-Man V.S.] - Can of Nothing

Just finished Act 2 now, faves from this disc would be:

Unstability ...for Exterior Crater - MasterJace

Another PSO fan here so this was such a nice surprise and SUCH a good mix of one of my fave tracks in the game no less.  Brilliant.  Totally gave it a new feel while still being totally recognisable.

Scarlet Red Rose [Original] - TrickyWolfy

I'm not really sure what element of Sonic inspired this track but it's gorgeous anyway.

Assault on the Ocean Base -  EAR

Just a totally cool update of an already fave tune from Advance 3.

Showdown in the Sky [Original] - Mr Badger

This was fairly simple and to the point but I dunno, I just really liked it.  Feels like it'd make a cool Sonic vs Metal Sonic tune.

Empyrean Station ...for Flying Battery - General Offensive

Oh wow this was great.  Snappleman's Flying Battery mix from Project Chaos has been usurped for me!

Interlude ~ Synthetic Paradise ...for Tropical Resort - KatamariParadox/Joshua Taipale

Just a lovely little relaxing mix.  Would make a cool hub theme or something.

My only criticism that remains is that just now and then there are tracks that have bad-Youtube-upload cut-off syndrome at the end.  The Tropical Resort Interlude mentioned above is an example.  The track ends before the final note has completely faded out and it sounds really jarring to hear, especially on a project that appears so well put together as this one.  How did stuff like that get through without anyone saying it sounds bad?

Like I dunno if the idea is the next track was supposed to come in right away there but... you guys presented this as discs and made individual cover artwork for each one so figured the interludes would be designed as if its possible for someone to stop listening there.

EDIT: Just listened to it allowing the next track to come straight in as if I was listening to the whole project in one go and uhh... no it still sounds jarring lol.

Is there a reason I'm not featured on the website? I sent everything I was supposed to, and didn't get any messages saying otherwise. I even got the download early, like the others who took part. So I assume it was a mistake. Maybe...

This is a bit of a warning to those who participated in this year's album about a YouTube user going by the handle GenerationsSonic. Normally I wouldn't want to give this kid attention, childish matter, really, but seeing that he's starting to harass one of our members in wake of the album's release (railing on her and one of her tunes no less), I might as well give you a heads-up just in case.

I had a bit of a kerfuffle with him back in January - he found a comment of mine praising the music featured in a

before swiftly deleting his reply, then kept railing on me via PM for having reported a thread of his on the SEGA forum. I retorted, told him how it is, and then blocked him.

The complete exchange is spoilered for size.

You reported my thread at the SEGA Forums when it had nothing to do with you.
Didn't you mother ever taught you to keep out of other peoples business? Sadly no i see, you must think you're hot shit well My thread was not aimed at you so why come out of no where acting all user viligante?
Re.:
Oh, where to begin!

So, I apparently reported a thread on the SEGA Forum... When exactly was this? I haven't exactly been to the SEGA Forum much in months, hardly contributed to the site for a while, and I don't recall even exploring the forum recently. If you're pissed at me for reporting your thread from so long ago, you must have some sort of problem. You wait for months and then this comes up? That's just pathetic.

Either way, if I did report it, then your thread must've been pretty fucking awful. Besides, how exactly am I at fault for reporting a thread in an Internet forum of all places? It's not exactly a private affair if you make it public anyway, since a forum is meant to draw discussion from contributing members, not within a private inner circle in some chat log.
When you make a thread, it's everyone's business, not just yours. You post something on a forum, it becomes public, so your argument was null and void from the get-go.
'sides, since the mods locked it (at least by judging from your douchebag tendencies towards me), they must've agreed that it was a fucking awful thread to begin with. Didn't your mother ever teach you that, if you don't want people involved in your business, just keep it to yourself by not making it in the first place?

Not exactly hot shit now, are you? You should've thought this through a bit better instead of throwing a tantrum like some selfish brat.

So, you had no business coming out of nowhere acting all pompous and hurt since you were just acting like a fucking moron to begin with... or maybe you really are one - your acting is pretty convincing! Ten outta ten! You had me there!

Sweet dreams, Man of Much Butthurt,

-VizardJeffhog

Not my brightest moment, but I can't deny that felt good.

So, after having dealt a rather satisfying burn and a block, I thought that'd be the end of it. He didn't make an effort to contact me again afterwards, so I just went on as usual.

However, with the album being released and our names making rounds, seems like he's stirring the pot again and got started on TrickyWolfy and her Sonic Lullaby tune. Shelbi doesn't get it.

Im very pissed off at you first off your Sonic Lullaby was complete crap and here's why .. What it does sound like is Preschool Children's go to sleep music if your other tracks are just like that Sonic Lullaby garbage I'll puke and I'm pissed off that you support the discrimination against people with disabilities I'm so pissed I just can't focus on youtube alot but that Sonic Lullaby torture you did was uncool And i just can't understand why you feel comfy of working with somebody who hates American for being American, Were you just money hungry is that why you had to do it? He hates Americans but he uses Americans he associates with as pwns including his own American fans that he tricks like you since you're one of his pwns ... I am a member of the group that retaliated against his racism towards us and discrimination against people with disabilities It is founded by one of his victims and he has autism He has tried to get your boss to confess to his racism whenever those sites interview him next time but he refused because he doesn't want his American Fans to turn against him...... We insulted your boss and said alot of mean things about him on his fb page for his wrongful doings so he hasn't confessed to his actions and it wasn't his personal FB page but we did PM him on his page our insults and mean stuff about him up until he got fed up with it and fixed it where any message from users not on his friendslist gets sent to the other folder.... Then he closed down his FB page (Not the personal one) when he saw our ugly messages and rude insults about him and revealing his true colors so he panicked and closed down that page, I'm sure you've heard about this after all you are his Pwn.... The mean things we said about him are facts.... And he don't want the truth about him being exposed so he fixed his PM system and closed his FB page down to keep anyone else from knowing the true colors of the scum that he is.... And we are not stopping until he confesses and explains himself.....

And as for you if you are a rich girl then don't you think you have plenty of money? or do ya want your boss Naka to shit you some more and more and more?

And I don't get it either.

Seeing that Shelbi and I have been contacted by this same individual for whatever reason, neither one of us can deny the possibility of him doing the same for you guys, sending garbage and misplaced hate for whatever reason, so we figured it'd be best to let you know. Just give him a block and you should be fine.

"I'm pissed off that you support the discrimination against people with disabilities"... uh, WHAT?!

Let it be known that I have Asperger Syndrome myself, and have been aware of my condition since I was a teenager. But I didn't want to let it get me down, even though right now this condition has stopped me from doing everything I wanted to do when I was 10 - have my own place, develop a family, even doing long-distance travel alone... that sort of thing. I was greatful for the support I had to help me get through my education; sure, I still had to work hard to get the grades, but they were there to help me get over the obstacles associated with my condition.

Having said that, it's one thing to hate on someone out of personal taste, but it's another to bring discrimination against race/disabilities into this. Disability discrimination, believe it or not, is a major berserk button of mine all due to my past experiences, and I refuse to see anyone who's had the misfortune of being handicapped in some form or another get ridiculed for something they themselves can never control.

And let me add this other piece of food for thought - if Vizard hates America, or disability/ethnic minorities in general, how come he's working just fine with a whole BUNCH of them on this album?

Man, is When Star Meets Pac all that good? I personally hate it, made it within a day with 2 midis. Huh.

Also here's another vote for Scarlet Red Rose. It's... er, for the lack of a better word - beautiful. I... Yeah. Really looking forward to her SSMA13 stuff!

EDIT: Darnit bold and italics don't work on iPhone

If a user is acting like that on YouTube just report him, very simple. End of discussion. Back to the Album.

You don't need to tell us Rexy. We already know you and Vizard are good people.

Still, it's pretty sad that somebody would try to sour all our achievements by pointlessly spreading hate. And considering how much he wrote, he must have a lot of time on his hands. I also don't know how things work at the Sega Forums, but I always thought reporting a topic was anonymous. Unless you mention it directly in the thread.

Anyway, I know I'm jumping the gun here, but I can't help but think about the next album. I always think a sequel should surpass the original in every possible way. I think we did that with 2012, compared to 2011.

But how the heck can we possibly top the amazing 2012 Album?? O_O

So I got the freaking 1.1-gigabyte album downloaded today.

Umm... How do I put this. Well, there's no nice way to say that but... I just wanna say...

This whole Music Adventure thing is... It's just... FREAKING AWESOME SHIFT!

I asked myself, why does everyone like it? I should see for myself, I started with the Prelude... And that's when I started falling... And falling... in love with your music people! I tried some of the tracks just randomly to get some overview or something, made me start wondering if any of you guys actually started making a living out of their music, or do you prefer it as a hobby? Anyway, out of the few ones I just listened to, Hedgehog's Ashes is the best (so far), it's only VERY suitable for the Volcano Valley!

It's not like wOrm's music is my favorite yet, since I'll need to try every soundtrack carefully to decide, but this Ashes thing is truly a freaking masterpiece.

So way to go everyone, thank you for the great music, you've got the job well done, and I wish all of you all the best luck, whether with your careers, future releases, or anything you're looking forward to!

Anything's possible if you try real hard, as cheesy as that may sound. xD
