Yeah! Mario & Sonic in Russia! :333

A new Mario And Sonic At The Winter Olympics game has been announced for Wii U. It will be based on the forthcoming Winter Olympics which will take place in Sochi, Russia in 2014.

Honestly this kind of annoys me that they're doing this again. It was cool the first couple times, but are they just going to keep doing it over and over?

 

In any case they NEED to add new characters this time. I'd kill to see Rouge and Jet actually playable this time around!

Is it bad that I'm a little excited for this? The Mario & Sonic games have always been fun mini-game collections, and the Dream Events are consistently great. I had a feeling that they were going to make another one. The series hasn't missed a year since it was introduced.

I would have been more disappointed if they didn't announce Lost World right afterwards. It's a staple I guess.. and the events are slowly looking better, but the visuals look meh.

 

Why can't they just make an adventure game? Sob.

This is actually good news... for Nintendo.

 

Sales for the Wii U will go up because it'll probably be released around Christmas so all the little kids will want it and us too.

Honestly, I understand that not everyone likes the franchise, but I honestly can't wait to play this.

 

In my opinion, while the games can always do a little more, I felt that they have been getting better and better with each entry in terms of gameplay. (And each time, leaning more into the dream aspect of the series, instead of dumping the character into the more realistic events.)

 

I like what I've seen with this. And that the events seem to combine with each other now. Plus, dual figure skating!

 

One thing I really want them to do is to bring back the festival mode from the preivous Winter Games, because that was one thing that made the third game feel a little empty for me. Also, more playable characters, and online.

 

Seriously, online. Allows players to set up a lobby and organize the mini-games in any way they want, with how many they want. Basically with how courses are chosen in Mario Kart Wii and 7. If it ends up as simple as that, I wouldn't mind at all!

Man, I hope the Dream Events for this game will be awesome. I mean, I love playing the normal events a lot, but as far as I'm concerned, the Dream Events are when the games are at their most awesome.

Funny thing is I haven't gotten one yet, but I do want to get one. Maybe this will be it. And yes, they DEFINITELY need to add new characters this time. Considering the rivals from past games, Rouge is pretty much guaranteed to be in. If they only add two each, Jet is the better fit, but Omega is a Power type, whereas Jet would either be Balanced/Speed and Rouge would be Balanced/Power.

 

If they only add four new characters and want to keep the balance of each team's character types balancing the opposing team's out, they'd need a Sonic Power and All-Around. Rouge and Jet seem to be the more likely choices, except they wouldn't fit the archetypes unless they decide to make Rouge power (she fits All-Around better). If they don't make Rouge a power type, then its probably more likely that the characters will be Rouge and Omega. Which kinda sucks, I'd like to see Jet playable outside of a Riders game for once (well, other than as a bonus character in Black Knight's multiplayer; I don't really count that one).

 

 

For the Mario side I foresee Diddy and Birdo, Birdo being Skill and Diddy Speed.

 

 

That's assuming they add new characters, of course (which they really should). It'd be epic if they add more than four, but its highly, highly doubtful they will.

I said it for London 2012, and I'll say it again now for Sochi 2014... pleeeeeeeeeeeeease add Rosalina as a playable character! She deserves more attention dammit!

admittedly that race does look awesome, but what other new characters will there be other than bowser Jr.

On another note, imagine an Eggman and Amy team up XD or better yet Eggman and bowser

Nope, this looks to be Wii U exclusive at the moment.

 

And you didn't miss much by not getting the London ones. The 3DS version had an interesting little story mode, but that was about it. Nothing as good as the Adventure Tours from Winter Olympics DS.

That sounds like a deliberate move on Nintendo's part of shift Wii U sales. Is this game really a system seller though?
