Ooh snazzy.

Is this Arc's "next-gen fighting game"? I remember them saying they wanted to do something for 8th Gen systems, but I was expecting a new IP (not that I'm complaining)

The visuals are awesome x-x is that 3D models made to look like sprites? Because if it is colour me impressed, it works.

I'm....I'm actually really interested in this. I haven't played a GG game ever since I dropped the series just before the Wii game came out. Just...wow. But the question is...now that times have changed a bit...do you think they'll attempt to modernize the series by bringing in an English dub?

Considering the dub treatment both Blazblue and P4A got (fully english story mode and fights) I can't see why they wouldn't. Although I'm probably going to leave my voices in Japanese for old times sake ~<3

Honestly hard to say- from the sounds of it Their next gen fighte rwas going to be either a.) a new IP, b.) a tag game, or c.) both. Or it could just be this!

That and GG already has been dubbed in Overture.

And then just like that, everyone jumped off the CP hype train.

The graphics are amazing! Usually I hate when fighting games use dull 3D models after having a history of nice sprites, but with this I honestly can't say I mind, they look so much like high quality sprites that it seems like a real tribute to fighting games even. (incidentally I still think I'd be sad if KoF started using models, but maybe that's cause I can't imagine a model style that properly imitates KoF's sprite style)

I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this; I hope this visual style is used someday for BlazBlue too.

It's funny you say that- the latest few KOF games have basically had traced 3D models used as bases for the sprites- which is one step away from doing this except without the rad as fuck 2D cel shading filter.

I can see this being used in blazblue for sure... maybe in BBxGG. I'm just baffled that it looks so much better than their last shot at this style

I thought it may have been something like that, it does look a little rotoscoped in the way it's animated, even if it's not from real people.

I think that even knowing that, without the sprite style it'd just look like unimaginative 3D models as opposed to really cool nicely animated sprites.

I think that's what I like about Xrd, the models don't even move like conventional models, they're animated precisely to give them a sprite feel. If that makes sense.

Definitely. They've kept the same sort of hitstop and speed of the animation as if the game was playing in 2D. They've also managed to 3Dify the very distinct sword trail effects and bring them across perfectly. I like that they've taken some restraint  in their animation to maintain the great feel of the old games.

Fuck I'm so hyped. I can't even deal

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowub.png

I've waited far too long for this. Milia my dear,, you look mighty fine!

May I say that I love that Western stage their fighting at, with the remains of the Statue of Liberty in some kind of Museum, reminds me of Sol's stage in the original Guilty Gear.

Well if Eddie/Zato-1 and Millia are hear, you can bet Venom isn't far off, same said about Slayer, being the connection all 4 share.

Sol got buff over the years, and his sword looks a little different too.

But that stage I love the most, I was always kinda pissed they never had an American theme stage in the XX games.

In fact the whole assassin group of characters were my character. Slayer is a complete badass.

Dat detail. I'm loving the updated Fuuenken design.

When I first saw it I was kind of down on it looking even more like a giant lighter but I kind of like it now. Even if it's now completely impossible to use like a normal sword the blade being on the rear kind of actually makes sense with Sol's fighting style

Yes, there aren't enough hands in the world to hold all of my hype.

Okay, the style is absolutely incredible. The cel-shading is near-perfect, and the game itself looks brilliant (even if the Unreal engine logo made me cringe when I saw it).

But... Honestly, the limited-frame animation style, while it's a neat replication of how 2D fighters are usually animated, it just feels off knowing it's in 3D, because it just makes the animation feel incredibly "stiff", just doesn't flow very well. I dunno, I'm not a hardcore fighting game fan, so it's probably just me being more open-minded and feeling that the potential for really great, smooth-looking animation is just wasted.
