Sounds like things are going great! I'm looking forward to hearing about the successful result of these meetups. A weekly meetup sounds awesome! WSS recently hit the 30 mark for attendees and we should have an exciting announcement next week!

I'm happy to see Weston Super Sonic has 26 going, 10 Maybes, and I presume several who are not yet listed on Facebook! It sounds like this event is going to be wonderful, Rurifuu; once it has established itself, I can only imagine next year's being even more awesome. :D

We are also planning on hosting the first ever fan-run international, Sonic the Hedgehog convention in the United States. Seeing that Sonic Revolution will be geographically based in the Pacific Coast region, our thoughts were that we could not leave the Mountain region uncovered and ignored for the sake of all things blue and speedy, right?

As a minor nitpick, Sonic Boom West technically has that position (as far as we know; if there's one thing this work has taught me it's that there's Sonic groups under every crack in the street).

That being said, I'm happy to see Sonic Utah's efforts prospering and am really looking forward to seeing how the meetup and con turn out. :)

Sonic Revolution has plans to eventually expand into multiple conventions similar to Comic Con; since the core staff are from SoCal, however, it is starting out there and will spread given time. We are happy to see Sonic Utah taking the initiative, however!

The Super Sonic international convention is being postponed and rescheduled for Spring 2015! Some of you may be asking "why" and some reasons which come to mind are (1) we do not want to compete with Sonic Revolution and (2) we will have even more time to get things together to make this an even more fun convention for everyone. Our hope is everyone would be understanding and helpful in this regard and we look forward to your support as we take all the necessary measures to take this event from a "cool" status to "a way past cool" one.

Please keep in mind that just because this event is on the chronological backburner that doesn't mean it still won't happen because of fans like you, even now, becoming involved! Check out the Facebook page ( https://www.facebook.com/events/241493572669415/ ) and keep an eye out for our upcoming webpage. Together, to paraphrase the blue blur's own words, we make up a planet as cool and as blue as him! Only together we will make this fan convention an absolute success and a moment to be remembered for years to come!

I feel so slow; conventions everywhere yet a few peeps of mine are just now planning our second meeting. We're tossing Georgia Tech, Andretti Kart Racing, and Six Flags back and forth, although I think Andretti's edging things out. It's half arcade and half indoor racing, so it seems appropriate for a Sonic group to meet up at.

So everyone was right in guessing Tails was what the blurred image was. No one seemed to guess exactly what the rest of the image was, however! Well here it is; the first Sonic Revolution events calendar, courtesy of Shayne "SonicRemix" Edwards! We're looking to have one of these for every month, so stay tuned!

(I'm also inquiring whether non-Revolution staff members would be free to submit entries for the calendars; I think it would do wonders to help build the community spirit, somewhat like the banner submission practice here at SSMB does)

Bear in mind "convention" in the Sonic Revolution sense of the word means a) a rented out venue and cool.png structured activities, so don't feel left out; I don't think any of us are organising our own Comic-Cons just yet. xD

I hope you'll keep me posted on the Sonic Georgia meet as it develops; I think it'll be even better than the last one now that each of these groups is gaining steam. With Sonic Georgia hovering around 15 or so members, I'd say you're pretty golden for meetups in the Atlanta area! That TailsChannel's owner is also resident to Georgia will help enormously with promotional efforts, I think. smile.png

Actually one of the originating ideas of Revolution was that America's too big for just one convention; we'd be more than supportive of multiple conventions across the United States. We don't feel Boom alone is adequate; one in every region would be ideal. Though it'd ultimately be up to each region when to try and have its own; we're going to look into perfecting the California convention before trying to really get involved in other parts of the country.

This was a main reason I was so supportive of the meetup initiative in particular, with the "Operation Springyard" idea in particular. It would allow for the grassroots building up of Sonic communities, which could then pool their manpower and resources to work towards a convention (i.e. the northeastern meetup chapters would work together to throw a con). It allows those in other states to have something fun while most of our efforts are focused on the West Coast (though we more than encourage other fans to work on their own cons without us, however!).

It is a good point to say that maybe the Sonic Revolution official title could be shared among regional conventions as it picks up speed. I am of the opinion that perhaps having the featured convention shared between states, or passing the torch so to speak, could promote the cause further. I seem to use Head-Fi a lot as an example of a convention system, but that's because the site's system has a long track record of having actually worked very well, being very coordinated and streamlined.

Tying it into here, Head-Fi happens to move their feature international convention, CanJam, across the country so everyone has a chance to have it near home and, up until now, everyone has been impressed and satisfied. It is true, of course, that we don't have a thousand headphone manufacturers rallying to support us with such an event, instead being consigned to one and only one franchise within a single company, but maybe this is something to think about. Most notably, Summer of Sonic also has changed host cities a couple of times through its lifecycle. Of course, you guys are in charge and are the ones calling the shots but an idea such as this could help gather more interest later on and increase overall appeal.

It is the long-term goal for the "Sonic Revolution" moniker to eventually become somewhat like a brand name for similar cons all across the United States, yes. It would be like the way the Comic Con name is used: a SoCal Revolution, a New York Revolution, etc.

As a movement advocating for fan empowerment, however, we do not push for the name to be used; it is merely the name we plan on using for cons we are most directly involved with. The team as it stands is working on the SoCal con with long-term plans to expand elsewhere (with the help of the locals, of course). Each con and meetup has its own rules and guidelines, after all, and it's up to each events' organisers what they desire to brand their particular event. Use of "Revolution" for cons and "Sonic ___" for meetup groups, I think, does help demonstrate unity.

Perhaps the answer I was in search of and, gladly, thank you for the timely one. There is a plenty of reason in attaching and relating the Sonic Revolution "moniker" to any of the conventions which are solely under the authoritative overseeing of Sonic Revolution and not those having any form of involvement from the team. As you allude, the conventions over which the Sonic Revolution team has tighter, more direct involvement would be the most probable candidates of carrying that moniker, although, by the tone of the answer, that is still currently undetermined. In short, the most I can gather from this response is that the exact answer is "no, not yet, but we will tell you later" as to the exact details of how and by whom the Sonic Revolution moniker name will be used. That is, whether it is to be used more universally or more specifically and annually will be said at a later date. In other words, at this moment, it is enough to say and be content in knowing that any event used in tandem with "Sonic Revolution" or "Sonic (POLITICAL OR GEOGRAPHICAL BOUNDARY)" is there for strengthening the cause and applies to conventions and meetups, respectively.

It’s Sanicday, which means it’s time to report all the good news!

Sonic Wisconsin has announced its meetup at this year’s Daishocon on November 22nd. It will be in the hotel lobby at 1 PM; it will be easy to see the group, as the host, Dan, will be wearing his Sonic suit from this year’s Sonic Boom contest. More details!

New York Sonic Team will be throwing an event at Regal Cinema Union Square, though the time is not specified. The team will be meeting up to watch Bad Grandpa. More details!

As always, we keep a list of Sonic fan events here. If you find or know of an event we don’t have listed, feel free to shoot me a PM, or an e-mail at ogilviemaurice@yahoo.com. (I suggest you copy/paste that address. tongue.png) It’s my job to give these events as much exposure as possible!

There's word of a meetup forming at PAX East, but no formal event's been planned yet. I'll report info as I get it!

That's a shame, TCB, but maybe next time! They seem to have pretty regular meetups.

New York Sonic Team was a group I stumbled across only recently by coincidence; the fact it and Sonic San Diego existed prior to Revolution getting aggressive about meetup formation makes me ponder how many other groups are out there, just waiting to be found...

The group is somewhat peculiar among them all, however. New York Sonic Team's actual FB group requires one be a roleplayer to join; new members are interviewed by their admin and assigned a character. I was given a waiver due to my work with Revolution. That said, however, you don't need to be a member of the group to attend their events, just a Sonic fan. So to recap: group is for roleplayers, but events are for every Sonic fan. Odd distinction, but that's how it is. XD

I really need to work on sniffing out more of these groups if they exist...

Further details about the upcoming SonicLondon meet :

eposter_zps60fd58a7.png

This one's been titled the Sonic London Winter Party. It will be held on the 30th November between 13:30 - 17:00 at Meltdown London, an eSports (aka gaming) bar in North London (UK). The owners have kindly agreed to let us use their Xbox 360, so expect some Sonic Transformed/Sega Superstars Tennis action!

There will be an Art Corner, kindly hosted by Andrew Hamblin, with pens and paper for guests to use. An art contest will take place based around the new game Sonic Lost World.

There will also be a Handheld Corner, with an emphasis on the 3DS Sonic Lost World multiplayer. Don't worry if you don't own a copy of the game, because myself and SonicYoda will both be hosting VS matches via 3DS Download Play. The meet will also be a great place to trade cards with fellow Sonic Lost World players if you -do- own the game, as well as missions.
Other multiplayer games will also be played, such as Mario Kart 7, Sonic Transformed etc.

To check out venue details, keep up to date with developments and RSVP please see here : https://www.facebook.com/events/1412673555626472/

Forgot to update regarding Weston Super Sonic on here. Now you have reminded me, I shall do it here!

We have a new competition at the event!

allstarracinglowres.jpg

Sonic and Sega All Star Racing Transformed! The slightly lower budget version.

Witness the amazing realistic 3D graphics of this awesome event, two rivals pitted against each other, in the most terrifying and slightly wobbly course of all time! No water graphics, no flying or boat sections of the course, just raw speed and skills are needed for this race!

No weapons either, unless someone angrily throws and apple at the course!

There is a low budget video on the facebook page of the event, but due to its cheesiness and poor lighting, I feel this video is just too awesome to link on the forums!

For those who watch the video, I am sorry for such a bad video!

With Weston Super Sonic only a month away and the Sonic California meetup just a week after that (don't worry Revolution is still happening, I just can't give any details, sorry!), I bring more news.

Sonic Globalka (or “Global Meeting”) has been a multi-day event held in Russia since 2005, predating Summer of Sonic and demonstrating that even a vast country like Russia is no obstacle to fans getting together for a few days to celebrate their favorite ‘hog.

Courtesy of SkyLlama, I was informed today that Globalka has been discontinued. A respectful moment of silence for the end of the world’s first Sonic con…

But, let’s not be too quick to be saddened! The team behind Globalka are hosting a new con in Summer 2014, called SuperSonicCon. Organised by Sonic CIS, Sonic SCANF, and Sonic and All Characters, this event will be more in the Summer of Sonic style, with a large venue and many activities taking place in a single day.

The event is to be held in Moscow, and will feature tournaments and competitions, complete with several awards. Details are scarce but they will be relayed as they come. If you’ve been wanting to practice your Russian or visit Russia in general, this event will just make that trip seem all the more worthwhile!

If anybody happens to be around, an Oklahoma Sonic meet-up would be fantastic!

Sonic Oklahoma fortunately exists! It's one of the smaller groups, but that's why getting the word out about this stuff is important; as it stands the larger chapters are having results the most at the moment, but as word spreads that will hopefully change. smile.png

Oh, more news!

While I'm here, Sonic Revolution has debated making a character for a mascot. The basic outline is that it would be a Sonic/Shadow fangirl named "Remi the Revolutionary." If you have any thoughts to share or wish to vote yes or no on the idea, don't hesitate to stop by the poll in our Facebook group.

I myself have reservations on the idea that it could be divisive and polarising for the movement (in addition, I think our focus is narrow enough Sonic himself can suit our mascot needs), but I'm just one person. Here's some concept art:

This isn't officialised yet, which is why we want to make sure everyone makes themselves heard!

Awesome, I had no idea!  Well, this should make things a lot easier. :)

Voted on the SR facebook page. I like the idea of a mascot, I like the concept art as well. Would look dashing in blue. ^-^

One reason a mascot was proposed was legal issues, though I think we technically have those no matter what we do given we make use of “Sonic” in our name and base our event around the same franchise.

Another was possible merchandise sales, but I’ve heard from several people they wouldn’t be particular interested in owning pieces of merch with Remi on it.

My main concern with a mascot is that it could be very polarizing for the fanbase. And indeed, the poll shows just that, being 50/50 on average. I’ve heard from some folks that it strikes them as an officialised fancharacter rather than a mascot, and in the Sonic fandom, that’s not a good quality to be. As we need to maintain the support of the wider fanbase to grow and be successful, I’m worried how various news sites, potential affiliates, etc. might view the adoption of a mascot. One fan who's worked in business relations even told us that there's a possibility this could make us look like a joke to potential partners.

As a final note, I just don’t think one is necessary; Summer of Sonic, Sonic London, etc. do not have mascots. A mascot is primarily used to represent a brand or organization, and that’s why I think Sonic himself more or less already fills the role; it’s Sonic Revolution and not Remi Revolution, after all. Were we a group with a broader focus, as is the case with most conventions, we’d have plenty of reason to have one, but the way I see it, Sonic suits us just fine. In fact, there was talk of stylizing Sonic and using him as a mascot before the idea of an original one came up.

Although the idea of trying to raise money through merchandise sales, I think you are probably right about there being issues of using a fan character to represent it. The designs are great, but probably not suitable to represent it. I know there are many people that hate fan characters all together and like you said, there's going to be people that aren't interested in anything without the official characters on.

You could always try a human character wearing clothes similar to one of the official characters. That might work better.

And now I should probably update Weston Super Sonic!

Latest News:

We currently have half our maximum capacity, so there's still plenty of room for people to join in if they want. All sign ups must be done on our facebook page before the 9th January, so I have time to add you to the list, as well as to produce all of the Weston Super Sonic goodies! (Yes, they aren't much, but there will be freebies!) Please visit https://www.facebook.com/events/643917318974940 for all the latest news and to sign up.

Freebies:

As this is the first convention, we don't have much of a budget. But I am determined that everyone will go home with something as a reminder of the day. So I reveal to you the Weston Super Sonic 2014 badge!

badgereduced.jpg

As well as a badge, there will also be cake! You don't have to have cake, but it's there if you would like to celebrate Weston Super Sonic (and my birthday in a week's time!)

Games Tournament:

Currently I have confirmed the game and console list as follows:

Shadow The Hedgehog (GameCube)
Sonic The Fighters (GameCube)
Sonic R (GameCube)
Sonic Riders (GameCube)
Sonic Heroes (GameCube)
Sonic Adventure 2: Battle (GameCube)

Sonic and Sega All Star Racing Transformed (PS3)

Sonic and Sega All Star Racing (Xbox 360)
Sega Superstar Tennis (Xbox 360)
Sonic the Hedgehog '06 (Xbox 360)
Sonic Riders Zero Gravity (PS2)
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (Xbox 360)
Sonic The Hedgehog 3 (Xbox 360)

(Note: currently all GameCube games will be on the Wii, but using GameCube controllers).

We're hoping to announce a few more games, but we're currently testing the remaining games. We're hoping to add Wii titles, but need to test the sensor bar with the projector.

As for the Green Hill Zone run, it has been confirmed to be run on the Xbox 360.

We still have a poll open on the facebook page for a second zone run (if we have time). If you have a zone from a particular game you'd like to play, please vote as soon as possible).

Other News:

We are hoping to add a few other things to the event. We're still looking for people who are interested in submitting videos to the event to slot in during gameplay breaks. Please drop me a line if you have something you'd like to submit.

We are also planning on a raffle to raise money for the Burnham on Sea Rainbows. What the prize will be is not yet confirmed, but I am planning on getting something fun (and obviously Sonic related). So please help support this cause on the day.

We also have a camcorder! So we're planning on getting some footage of the day so everyone gets a chance to either see what we do or reflect on what will hopefully be a great day!

That's all for now. Hopefully we'll have one last update before the event. Hope to see you there!

Updated the title to reflect Rurifuu’s post up above.

As for the other goodies. I have been informed that there is a monthly Sonic fan meetup at Packrat Comics in Hilliard, Ohio (Website). The next meetup is on Saturday, January 4th. There’s no scheduled start and end times, but the store is open 11 AM to 7 PM local time. The address is 3864 Lattimer Street in Hilliard, Ohio; zip code 43026. This was relayed to me by members of Sonic Ohio!

Sonic Revolution, meanwhile, is planning to hold a fundraiser involving the sale of t-shirts. Fans are welcome to submit possible designs for the shirt. The rules are as follows:

The shirts must advertise the Convention AND the website http://www.sonic-revolution.net. You can also change the shirt’s color as part of the design (solid color only please!)

Entries should be submitted to sonicremix@sonic-revolution.net.

The contest ends on January 10th! The winner will have the design used in Sonic Revolution’s t-shirt fundraiser!

While I'm here, I will say that Mike Pollock attended one of the meetups in New York that was organised by New York Sonic Team (this organisation was founded prior to Sonic Revolution and is separate from Sonic New York); sadly by the time more folks showed up he had to leave. So, if a meetup ever gets going in the NYC area, it's not farfetched Mike may surprise you all with a visit!

I have a smaller update for everyone regarding WSS.

We finally have a website up and running!

http://westonsupersonic.wix.com/weston-super-sonic

The website basically gives the basic information regarding the events of the day, all packaged together one one place. It even has a map to help everyone find the venue. I'll be updating with photos and video after the event. As I would like to make this an annual event, I'm going to try and keep it updated, even between events.

As well as having a collection tin for anyone wishing to support the event, we will also be doing a charity raffle on the day. It will be similar to the 'guess the name of the bear' fundraisers, but instead is called 'Where's Sonic?' and you have to guess which zone Sonic is hiding. The prize? One of the very adorable and soft Sega Prize Europe Sonic plushies!

The charity it is raising money for is the Burnham On Sea Rainbows. I volunteer every week with this unit and know without more funding, the unit risks being shut down. The unit is a fantastic place for girls between 5 and 7 to learn new skills, make new friends and experience new things. Any girl from any background can become a Rainbow, which is why they need additional support with funding, so even those that cannot afford the normal costs can be included.

I want to be able to raise funds to help get the unit new equipment or to put towards one of the many big Rainbow events, which are usually too expensive for us to afford at the moment. Only a small amount needs to be raised to make a big difference!

So if anyone can help support this fundraiser on the day, it would be fantastic!
