    • Welcome To Your New-Look SSMB!   07/11/15

Hello! You might have noticed that this place has changed a little bit since you last saw it. Welcome to the Sonic Stadium Message Board - 2015 Edition! The moderators, Bmn and myself have been working really hard these last few weeks to make sure the upgrade from IPB 3 to IPB4 was as seamless as possible, whilst also taking the opportunity to update the look and feel of The Sonic Stadium in a modern way. So there are a whole bunch of technical things that have changed, as well as cosmetic changes that relate to how the forum works. You'll see your username above the main content area: click that and a dropdown menu will appear containing most of the options you need to work your profile. Next to your username are a bunch of quick icons that take you to Notifications and Direct Messages. In the blue bar underneath the header, you'll see an 'SSMB' link on the far right (next to the search button), hover your mouse over that and you'll see different sections of the forum, like Calendar and Forum Staff pages etc. Posting replies is simpler than ever, and a lot of the bugs that have been prevalent in the forum this past year have been squashed. (Needless to say though, that if you're seeing anything that's a bit wonky, do post in the Member Feedback/Bug Reports forum, as it will help us troubleshoot stuff!) The cosmetic changes are part and parcel of a wider initiative by myself to reinvent The Sonic Stadium in 2015. Did you know that this plucky little website will be 15 years old in October? It's been through an awful lot, and with the changing habits of forum goers and website readers alike I've been spending a lot of time trying to figure out the best way to present the site (and forum) in a way that makes sense for everyone in today's era. That's why you see a chop-and-change of some of the forum listings on the homepage - SSMB has been re-organised so that discussion is at the top of the list, and the more popular forums are front and center so you can access them much more easily. Needless to say, SSMB's butterfly change into this current form is a prelude to what will soon happen on The Sonic Stadium itself, later this year - a lot more housecleaning is needed on the main site yet, before I can fully unleash the revamped design. Either way, I hope you like this new look and functionality, and are looking forward to what's coming soon! As this is brand new forum software, there will naturally be some elements that haven't crossed over to this new SSMB immediately - namely Badges. We are working hard to get these back, don't worry. They're not lost forever! We're working on a way of getting them back to you.  Stay tuned on that front! You can comment on this news in the topics situated in the Announcements forum, here.

So, looks like Knuckles has a new voice actor. Okay... I really liked his current game VA but I suppose they needed a voice to fit with his new buff figure.

Nah, the whole entire voice cast for the games is returning. Travis Willingham has got serious range as an actor,so I expect they're making him come up with a different voice instead of impersonating Dan Green this time around, so he can better suit Knuckle's new design. With that said, there's hope Cindy Robinson will do a vastly different take on Amy. She's such a talented voice actress, it's just such a shame she keeps using that grating falsetto voice for Amy. I think everyone is going to get a chance to do much more with their characters, so there's room for improvement that's being shown so far.

Has this been confirmed? I know we heard from Smith and Pollock, but I don't remember anything else.

Well, we can obviously tell Kate Higgins is back, and I'm pretty sure Mike Pollock confirmed Travis and Cindy were returning. Usually, when you say the current game cast is coming back, that kind of includes Travis and Cindy as well. :P

No he doesn't. Travis Willingham has been the voice of Knux since Free Riders.

Oh, really? I hadn't noticed. (That's what I get for not paying attention to Knuckles' VA) That's good. I love how he voiced Knuckles. It's a shame Knuckles got such little screen time in Generations and Lost World.

I agree. I looked her up and I'm impressed at how much voice work she's done and how well it is compared to Amy Rose. Although if I were to guess, I'd say it's SEGA's fault for her performance, as they probably told her to make a Minnie Mouse-esque voice.

Well, I like/will get used to almost everything about this show: redesigns, sure; funny writing, fine; new plot, okay then. But there's only one thing I don't like: Sonic's running animation.

To me, it doesn't look like he's running fast -- he's moving through the environment at a good speed, sure, but it looks like he's holding his arms behind him out of choice rather than them being pinned back. I don't really know how to explain it, but it seems like his body is unaffected by the massive air resistance he should be facing. I don't know, maybe I'm looking at it wrong.

I know there are some people here who actually work in animation, so if they (or anyone else for that matter) could explain how wrong I am to me, I'd appreciate it.

--

Also, not a fan of the knees and elbows at all. It makes the running look a lot weirder.

It's his longer legs that are probably doing that for you. It looks like he is bending down to tie his shoes while his legs are so long it's difficult to make the illusion they created before where his legs were short enough to fool you into accepting his awkward running position. But because his legs are longer, to make his pose less awkward, they'd probably have to increase the size of his body (or shrink his legs.) And because these environments are going to be more cramped, action scenes may not look at fast because they can't run through them that fast.

Sonic's running position was always sort of diagonal but this looks like a WAAAAAAAAAA-luigi L.

It's a whole lot of things that break your illusion.

We just need a comic of Sonic trying to tie his shoe wraps with his long legs getting in the way somehow and use that as an argument to not like the long legs.

Yeah, this is Cubot's voice actor's website. Apparently he's in the show, which means Orbot's probably in it too.

This pleases me as it disproves the rumor that Shadow/Rouge would be lazy assistants to Eggman and also shows that characters other than the classics will be coming back.

Although, personally, I think that Wally made a mistake; he probably wasn't supposed to say that he was doing the voice of Cubot just yet since so far they've only shown off the classic characters.

Personally I never liked Cubot that much but I LOVE Orbot's sass.

It just wouldn't be a Sonic cartoon if Eggman didn't have bumbling sidekicks. I'm always happy to see more of Orbot and Cubot.

I wonder if the reason why Graff and Pontac had to fight to get them included in Lost World is because they were going to be in Boom, and Sonic Team were worried about overlap? That'd be interesting.

I wouldn't be shocked if they DON'T use super sonic. I could be wrong, but other than the comic.... I haven't seen any western dev use that. Super Sonic is like a had to get actor.....

Maybe since the focus of this game is teamwork, they'll give super forms to everyone?

That may actually end up being the case. But… I hope they do a "Epic" Season finale in which the four characters have to find the 7 chaos emeralds. Sonic goes Super or something and it all ends on a cliffhanger involving Shado-*shot*

Of course it would be a 2-parter.

They'll probably pull another Sonic Heroes and just have them shoved into Super Shields.

Now that might actually fit. I hope they'd take steps to avoid making super forms a maguffin.

How would Super Sonic even look like?

I think a lot of people are forgetting that the show is mostly going to be a comedy, with the episodes being 11 minute A & B segments. There probably isn't going to be any real continuity in between episodes, so the possibility of any epic season finales is kinda unlikely. Not that it can't be done, but I have doubts Super Sonic will even show up in this series.

I'm not sure I even wanna imagine what his design would be like here anyway.

Just because it's a comedy doesn't mean it can't have a serious plot or two.

It'd be nice to have at least one.

This is true. Its been done many times.

But honestly, how serious can it get when you have only 11 minutes to play with?

Well, if Adventure time can manage with fifteen, then maybe.

Still not getting my hopes up for anything mind blowing in this first season. Just something good enough to find success.

While that's true, the previous three cartoons were famously made by people who knew nothing about the game series. Despite the new designs, I'm getting a good vibe of the games from this, the inclusion of the game actors and characters like orbot and cubot seemingly being in it suggest to me that there's a good chance the devs have some love for the series.

Hey guess what the show runner for this wrote this.

I'm more confused as to why it was made.  Oh wait, this is an adaptation of the comic from the 1970s?  Weird.  Wait, he's not credited for screenplay and it's an existing story, then what did he write for this?  Oh I guess it's a story along the same lines.

LOVE IT!!! I really like the new designs and the voice acting has improved a lot! I think the animation looks very similar to Transformers Prime and am I the only one who thinks Tails's fail at ejecting is oddly similar to Sonic shorts volume 8 where Eggman's trying to land?

Since this show is aparently taking inspiration from Spongebob in a few areas, you know what character would be the perfect inspiration for Shadow the Hedgehog?

char_15128.jpg

Come on, it's such an insane idea, but if humor is one of this show's focus points, and we're getting episodes like Eggman faking an injury and suing Sonic in court, why not bump up Sonic and Shadow's rivalry to insane "anything you can do I can do better" levels. It's crazy, but if Shadow was like the Squilliam Fancypants of Sonic Boom, that would the best humorous take on Shadow I can think of. :D

You bring up a good point. But seriously? does something like Super sonic really work in a western show with western ideas? I've been thinking hard on this and I dunno if that would really work. The west isn't really known for over powering something over and over. I mean Super man - tho yes he does get more powerful - is normally nerfed so they can write stories. I'm worrying over nothing but it was something I thought about....
