Keeping In Touch with Western Sonic Team! We Shall Call It, Red Button Entertainment Forums!

So, a thought has arisen considering that Sonic Boom will be western-handled and controlled. Since Sonic Boom is to be a completely different Sonic franchise from the the franchise Sonic Team is piloting, could this mean that a whole new SEGA Forums-esque forums site will be constructed for us to communicate with the devs, teams, writers, etc oft the show, games , and books?

Imagine, directly speaking on a level language field with the higher-ups! You can thank, commune, confront, advise and all that jazz with them FINALLY!tumblr_m7cmk8Jee21r9w3pqo1_500.gif

Discuss.

If it's even half like the Sega forums... good god no.

And since when do we ever get to advise on anything? The Sega forums really serve no purpose except to let angry people vent and think that they're actually making a difference.

To put it into perspective.

Random website which primary focus is on childrens toys got invited to Booms announcement, even though there were no toys actually on show.

Not one Sonic fansite was even aware it was happening.

And considering the utter lack of communication from Segas own PR agency that we've been subscribed to for the last year, there's nothing to discuss at all.

Let's not forget though, that these are actually western devs though. Even they do just get a sub-section of the SEGA Forums, they might be more inclined to actually pop in on the discussions and listen to us.

Western devs in general don't have an obligation to talk directly with the fans and rarely do just like Japanese devs, Sumo are a notable exception usually. What makes you think Big Red Button will be any different?

I think they actually be more willing, considering their enthusiasm. I was also referring to the writers of the games and the show as well.

So basically, from what you said in the OP and with this... you want us to be able to advise and influence development of the show and game?

That is never going to happen.

Not really. I was fancying the notion of the dev team and company having better communication with the fanbase.

There's an easy way to get people to listen to you.

Money. Whether through purchase (or lack thereof) of games, or through purchasing of shares in a company. Consider this: if every time we bought a Sonic game for 50 dollars, we put 30 dollars towards SEGA stock (and this is using the current price, so it probably would be even cheaper given Sammy wasn't involved back then), SEGA would be collectively owned by its fans. Now, how it would be run, I do not know, but I always thought that was interesting trivia.

As for forums - while it's a noble idea, it sadly won't work. While some companies do listen to fans, they won't do anything drastic or major without the input of higher ups, who are where they are because they had connections and very likely a good amount of cash.

Probably not. SEGA Forums will just have a Sonic Boom subsection.

It already has one. To be honest, I really don't think the SEGA Forums are that good anymore. Half the time, I'm not even serious over there. I'm serious here, because the discussions are more serious and are far less prone to breaking out into an argument or a derailment. Especially in the console sub forum.

So a forum like the SEGA forums? It would be just as bad as the SEGA forums.

Let's also not forget that forums work a lot like celestial bodies. If they're big they can make a lot of difference with their gravitational pull, but they tend to irrelevant if they don't quite meet that amount.

I predict Red Button's forums likely would be fairly dead overall; you need people to keep and get people. It's just one of those social media rules.

Forums don't really work, the Sega Forums...and hell even this site, are a testament to that.

The best way to speak to the developers is with money, if they feel their product didn't do well they'll improve it based on the criticisms they've received, and hopefully do some lurking on other sites as well

Not necessarily, depends on the moderation and the crowds it gathers, I think a possibly problem with the Sega forums is that it gathered a bit of a messy crowd in it's formative moments; possibly due to lack of moderation or simple luck, and now it's kind of stuck like that, as a lot of the current crowd there aren't so much douchbags as asinine and mods can't really do much about that.

  • 3 weeks later...

I'm certainly going to try my best to show up in all the major forums and engage as much as I can with the fan base. I certainly won't be able to respond to everything, but I'll definitely try my best.

Well that's a good thing to hear Mr. Frost! And we're all looking forward to Sonic Boom!
