The Order: 1886 (PS4) "M'Lord! The House of internet cries foul delay!"

This game was announced at E3 last year and so far has been kinda quiet, very few gameplay details, let alone plot details. Other than you play as part of a group of Knights who fight half men half monster creatures.

Edit: Trailer

A trailer was recently announced for February 18th... however... theres been a leak

And we have a few gifs too.

more at VG leaks.

What says you SSMB? It's not really doing it for me at the moment, though it is a small leak and maybe the trailer will do a better job at showing off the game.

Yeah, I can't say the game excites me like InFamous does. It has a cool concept but it all kinda just dreadfully... bores me. And from the looks of it, it seems to be another "shoot, sneak, takedown" gritty AAA title but set in the olden days. Meh.

I wasn't really interested to begin with but this basically sums up my thoughts too. Though I will admit that visually it does look pretty good.

Graphically, and artistically looks incredible. Not a whole lot will be able to match that for quality.

Gameplay....nothing has made a hard sell. Need to see more, but too early to say really. I will just say, that being a TPS, and having a cover mechanic, doesn't necessarily mean that this game is just another "Gritty realistic shooter".

This is probably the best looking PS4 game to date...but I hope that it doesn't suffer like Killzone: Shadow Fall did (amazing graphics, lackluster gameplay and story).

The setting is very intriguing and the graphics are awfully pretty, but the gameplay reminds me a lot of GoW. In other words yet another nitty gritty TPS. =/ Maybe the trailer will show us more though.

Was a pretty big fan of it when I saw it announced. I like the whole steampunk early london feely they got going on or whatever, and I coulda swore those were werewolf things in the original trailer (though haven't seen it since then tbh). Thing is that there's hardly been much more than that so it kinda fell off my radar other than the occasional times where I get asked which PS4 games do I want to get when I eventually get one.

I do hope it's pretty great and original though, but idk. Those gifs make it look awfully like every other cover based one player shooter with a splash of stealth in the world. If the only thing interesting it offers are some gimmicky crazy guns, then I'll be pretty disappointed.

Order looks fine. Nothing wrong with standard TPS gameplay, not every game needs to do something different - there's been many instances where introducing gimmicks for the sake of standing out turned out to be a bad move.

The atmosphere is ace and it looks stunning so I'll have to endure those dreadful, horrible, tried and true gameplay mechanics.  Woe is me.

I mean, what would I play this year if I skipped every game without groundbreaking, genre shattering innovations? Other than Bayonetta of course.

I know. It's like some people expect a game's gameplay to be half as interesting as the rest of the package.

Wasn't Dob's point here to be sarcastic?

Unless you're also being sarcastic.....

Either way, I'm pretty sure 99% of all the games out there just utilise iterations of long-standing gameplay conventions. Most of the time, of their own direct predecessors. Hence, people complaining about lack of "innovation", is something that annoys me.

After seeing the gameplay trailer...yeahhh I'm still not entirely convinced. <=/ It looks so cool and I love anything Steampunk or Victorian related but the gameplay just looks like every other game I've played since 2009. I'm surer there's more to it since this is just a trailer of the beginning of the game but I'm not buying a PS4 for this. Yet.

One can put their own stamp on a given genre without necessarily revolutionizing it, e.g. Donkey Kong Country, Mass Effect, Mega Man, etc. It's when developers take gameplay for granted and don't even try to put their own spin to it that it becomes a detriment to the game, as with the X-COM first-person shooter or EA's Walking Dead or what-have-you. There are often different takes on a gameply style, or indeed different genres altogether, that would elevate a game, but the developer needs to reach outside its comfort zone, and such a thing is hard to do in the AAA world.

No game will ever be truly original, but then developers don't even steal from the ideas that would elevate their game. Little touches made Donkey Kong memorable as its own game apart from Mario, but most studios wouldn't even go that far.

Sorry if that's messy, trying to hurry to lunch

Unlike art direction, setting or graphics, we can't really say how interesting the gameplay is or isn't until playing the final game for a few hours.

I don't know, it seems silly to me being down on the whole package for being too "standard" when we recently had Bioshock Infinite, Last of Us or Journey to name a few. Absolutely fantastic games that didn't need to reinvent the wheel to provide great experiences.

I remember I thought The Last of Us looked like "just another cover shooter" back at E3 2012. Really glad I gave the game a chance regardless, because otherwise I would have missed out on one of the greatest games I've ever played.

Quality in a cover shooter comes from the intensity of the gameplay, the polish of the controls, and the variety in level design. Having only seen this trailer, it at least looks like the first two things seem to be good here. Everything looks like really heavy and powerful; lots of recoil, spraying discouraged, etc. I like that. The fight with the guy looked pretty intense as well, though I want to see how much of that is controllable. An overuse of QTE's is not something I'm fond of.

Overall though, I'm excited. The game looks like it could be a lot of fun and I'm already in love with the setting. Bums me out when people say "looks like just another nitty gritty TPS" as if that's all there is to it. The way I see it that argument is as baffling as writing off Mario 3D World for being "ugh just another cartoony platformer". If you don't like a genre just say you don't like the genre. You don't have to pretend everything in it is mediocre and samey. :/

  • 3 months later...

3 minutes of ACTUAL GAMEPLAY this time. Minimal cutscenes and no QTEs on site.

The video is laggy because it was captured from a Twitch stream. Don't worry, the game doesn't run at 5fps.

Seems like a standard Gears Of War TPS type deal with a cool artstyle. Not automatically a bad thing because I like GOW, but a bit disappointing nonetheless.

Shinobi is apparently trustworthy. It's still just a rumor, though.

If it's true, I can't say I'm angry. Delays suck, but at this point I'm used to them. I'm not strongly hyped for this game, even though I'll eventually get it when I have a PS4.

If it is true it kind of sucks for PS4 owners, I guess. Currently Sony doesn't really have much announced for the end of this year. Wonder what they'll announce at E3.

I see they've decided to give me something to give my wife for Valentine's Day. Nothing says "I love you" quite like a violent romp through the streets of an alternate universe' 19th Century London.

PS4? More like G(ames) D(elayed) 4 (Months)

Seriously why do so many PS4 games get delayed.

And yet another delayed PS4 game. Surprise surprise! =/

Seriously, they better announce some good stuff at E3 because otherwise Christmas 2014 is going to be full of third parties and hardly any exclusives.

DelayStation 4

Bummer. I was looking forward to this one. Hopefully it benefits from it as much as DriveClub did.

If the game ain't ready then the game ain't ready. I don't want another Battlefield 4 fiasco pls.

For what it's worth, Drive Club's delay massively benefited the product itself. I remember the Eurogamer preview specifically saying that the E3 showing in 2013 was mediocre at best, and flat out bad at worst - right before saying that the updated build he played last week was absolutely brilliant.

It's not like there's nothing coming out on PS4 in that time frame anyway, even if the major titles aren't exclusive.

Well, looks like I'm not missing out on too much of the NextGen games then.
