Obviously we've seen that Robotnik will be returning as the classic villain, but as the show progresses in 2014, or even the game which is still unfinished (and I know has already established at least one new villain), who else would you like to see be a villain with a large impact on the show/game. For me, I really wanna see a Metal Sonic comeback!! I mean they've even remade games to include the character for the new and old sonic players alike. Though there are many new options, as a classic sonic fan, I would like to see some classic characters….

Seems like they're trying to steer away from the classics (promoting to the newer generation of fans) so if Metal Sonic (or anyone really) returns he'll most likely have some kind of drastic make over (take the character from the concept art board that looks like Marine.. huge change if it turns out to be her)

Well, while not strictly the same character, look at Silver/Mecha/Metal Sonic they were pretty drastic (although, since, Silver and Mecha have been all but dropped, so Metal may as well be an upgrade.), or it could be something as small as Metal to Neo Metal.

Metal Sonic has a fairly solid fanbase as a villain, if I'm not mistaken. Heck, I've noticed a lot of folks who dislike Shadow are partly motivated by feeling he kind of took Metal's place as the "evil twin" in some aspects.

Since Boom is meant to appeal to both old and new (from what I can see, otherwise I think they'd have canned everyone but Sonic in Underground fashion), I think some version of Metal Sonic is practically a given. He's one of the more recognizable cast members, after all.

This opens up a lot of questions. Do we assume that Sonic, Tails, Amy, Knuckles and Eggman are stranded/trapped on this island? I.e can they not just leave at any time, and if they can leave, why don't they? How easy is it for other characters to access the area where they are based?

If they did bring in Metal Sonic - which would be cool, but unlikely - it would probably be for just one episode. Would be nice to see cameos from Shadow and Silver, not that they're evil.

Hmm. Metal Sonic might well be in this, but perhaps not in the way we currently know him. Also he might not be called Metal Sonic, judging by the trailer; maybe Metal Sonic is The Lacerator 3000?! :D

Also what's with that Boom! Shadow recolouring job in the OP? Yeesh. :/

Having this thing without Metal Sonic sounds unbelievable.

I'm pretty sure Metal Sonic would appear somehow.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Metal show up at some point. Maybe in an episode of the show, maybe in a later game in the Boomverse. Probably not in this game, though; they've got enough to worry about setting up without having to throw an evil twin into the mix right away.

You do realize that this is only a Nintendo exclusive right

For now.

If SEGA really wants this brand to take off, I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up porting Boom to other consoles at some point.

While console exclusiveness is often permanent, that's not always the case. I wouldn't be surprised if SEGA and Nintendo's contract allows for Boom to stay exclusive only for a year or two. Which would probably allow it to be released multiplatform shortly before any sequel.

Kinda doubt that, while sequels would be exempt, this game is going to be staying on this platform, especialy considering all the optimization, and gamepad integration, at this point porting it would proably highly effect the stability of the product, and alter the game, proably for the worse

This point being the key words. Of course it won't happen soon, given the whole contract they've surely got.

However. If they're changing the game around for a 3DS release, they would logically be able to do the same for PS4 and XBO versions.  I see only great things from the designer choices so far, so can imagine SEGA America would get the right people for other ports.

Boom is meant to reinvigorate the franchise. I don't think SEGA's staying with Nintendo forever, so it stands to reason that if this does well they're going to eventually want to port it elsewhere. Especially in time for a sequel so as to introduce the non-Nintendo gamers to the brand.

It would just be completely bizarre to mark this as a re-invigoration of the brand, and then shut out most of the gaming market.

Transformed still gets loads of love and has enormously expanded its reach. I see no reason Boom wouldn't do the same if it sells well (on 3DS, anyway; failure on the Wii U is practically a given).

Um, if you are comparing it to transformed, it sold best on wii-u ya know, and if sonic boom is a solid game that is properly advertised(and a daily half hour ad of a tv show WILL help), not only will it sell, but so will a good chunk of wii-us

Plurality isn't a majority, though. Even if 40% of a game's sales are on Wii U, 20% on Playstation, 20% on Xbox, and 20% on PC, it would be a bad idea to make a sequel Wii U-exclusive; that kills 60% of the original market.

The costs of raw multiplatform aren't that much. If an indie game can do it for a few thousand, I see no reason a company with millions of dollars to back a project can't. Especially when it's been established said project is alright with mixing things up between versions rather than making carbon copies.

The fact is they're leaving out a huge market keeping this Nintendo-exclusive.

I think a REALLY bad move would be leaving this off the PS4, in particular. This looks to be in the same vein as the Sony platformers despite its Sonic roots, and as Sony has no shortage of Jak and Ratchet fans... well, it seems like a missed opportunity. The Crash and Jak fanbases would probably go absolutely nuts to see what's probably going to be the closest they'll ever get to a genuine Crash or Jak title, in particular.

Doubtful.

But I can are see future Boom games being multiplatform.

That would seem kind of a bad move, though, since half the gamers aren't going to have played the first one.

If they really want this to be broad, they need to go multiplatform.

In fact, I really hope SEGA America plans on making this multiplatform after a brief period. It seems like a poor sales move to limit what's supposed to be a game changer to just one brand of consoles.

Which is why I hope they do more or less what I mentioned: it says Nintendo-exclusive for two years or so, and then come the time for a sequel... it gets ported to the other platforms. That way it can either be bundled with Boom 2, or Sony and Microsoft gamers can introduce themselves to the brand in general.

I mean, this game is being made by a team that would know the Sony demographic best. It's just strange to not have it at least be on PlayStation as well.

As I stated, highly doubtful given the exclusivity deal. Not like it would really hurt Boom anyway, since the games likely won't be too directly connected via story from what we've heard.

That depends on how long the deal lasts, though. If the deal was made for five years and most likely signed in 2012, it would expire in 2017. Which would be three years from Boom 1's release date... and thus be perfectly in line with any sequel.

The whole point of this deal is to promote Wii U sales. If the Wii U's sales haven't gotten better by that point, well...

It just seems like a bad move to make a permanent exclusive when a sequel is planned that will most likely be multiplatform. It was annoying as heck to have to buy a bajillion consoles to follow the Kingdom Hearts franchise, for example. In terms of Boom, I just think a lot of Xbox/Playstation players won't care for the franchise if they didn't play the Wii U version first.

The power of playing the original should not be understated. I don't think it's a coincidence Sonic 2 is the best selling Sonic game, and Sonic 1 came bundled with Genesis. Everyone had a chance to play it... and so wanted more. Theoretically the same idea applies to a multiplatform title.

A lot of people have to pick and choose consoles. It really pays to be as inclusive as possible of alternate markets if you're not first or second party.

Then again, we don't even know if there will be more? Than just this Boom game. Still, might as well at least key the Wii U hold on to its exclusives lest the situation become dire enough.

If this game does well in sales or reviews, I'm pretty sure there will be more Sonic Boom games but it would be the better idea to make it multiplatform for future sequels.

My thoughts exactly, Soni.

Which is why I think this first game should eventually go multiplatform. It will help people be more interested in the sequel.

Let's also remember that consoles aren't cheap, and that we're in a recession. People do have to pick and choose consoles... and thus, it makes sense to have a game be on more than one console unless you're the actual console maker.

The opportunities of being multiplatform outweigh the costs in most cases. Otherwise every game would be an exclusive.

I don't agree particularly. The game doesn't need to be made multiplatform to ensure the success of future Boom games and interest and can just as easily be kept alive with the show and other merchandise at hand.

No need to snatch yet another exclusive from Nintendo like Ubisoft did.

Given that the Wii U's low install base is a widely accepted fact now, I think it would be well within the developers' rights to claim that it "sold well for the console."  Or even simply that it reviewed well.  Or, if it neither reviews well or sells well, that they're listening to criticism as they move forward for future games.  It's not like they're ditching Sonic Team just because Lost World sold and reviewed poorly, so I imagine Boom will be granted similar license to fail if Sega's really committed to it.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Boom or a version of Boom ends up going multiplatform a few years down the line.  But equally I think they'd be perfectly able to just make the sequel multiplatform anyway (listening to the fans/critics, etc.).

I just hope that one day I will be able to play this game without having to buy such an underpowered system.

I'm happy that sega is profiting due to having a deal with nintendo but i really want to see a next gen sonic game as soon as possible.
