Hopeful Expectations on the next Sonic Game on PS4/XB1

This is not something regarding to another Sonic Adventure 3 or some similar crap. This is gonna be talkin' about possible expectations about the future of Sonic Games in the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The deal with SEGA and Nintendo is not as a great idea and despite the good sales of Sonic Lost World in Europe, it did poorly in America thanks to reviews and also the lack of support for the Wii U. I feel that if SLW was in the PS4, it could have done a bit more better, however it's too late.

Now PS4 and XB1 players are missing a lot of Sonic since Sonic Team is focusing on the Wii U even thought PS4 is winning and XB1 is gaining some speed. SEGA has up to one game planned for both PS4 and XB1 with another game only for those in Japan but it's not enough. We had a rumor on the next Sonic game which turned out to be false, and now, we don't even know what's gonna happen with it now. However, in my perspective, I hope to see some of the following (Shown below) that may happenen in the next Sonic Game:

  1. Hedgehog Engine to be more improved and ready for Next-Gen Consoles: Although it's ready for Wii U, WHERE'S PS4 AND XB1? On the PS3 and XB1, it took 3 years to develop this. On today's 8th-Gen consoles, well, it could be there, however it could be under development. The only things that may be included should be improved and in addition, there could be 4K grapics but it's unknown if that happen. In rare cases, expect the next Sonic game to even run at 60 fps (but the best one goes to PS4 since in a comparison video with Battlefield 4, PS4 runs the best at 60 fps than XB1 where it consentally drops).
  2. The PS4/XB1 Controllers and how it effects the gameplay: PS4's Dualshock 4 if Lost World is published on the PS4 will be similar to those of an Wii U version except the PS4 version has a few minor changes. That's ok. However, the XB1 has some good improvements but not a lot to talk about. PS4 will be perfect for Wisps as well.
  3. Beyond Sonic Boom. In my perspective, I can't tell if another Sonic game to be on PS4 and XB1 after the Deal. It's unknown if it another Sonic Game is announced, it must be after the publishing date of Sonic Boom game. Of course, it'll be at around the Fall, mostly at October or November but we'll have to see.

This is expectations but not on the other views. Although the PS4 is now in Japan but the XB1 is coming there by September 2014, I hope such things will come out to be true before we get the full story about the next Sonic game. Thoughts?

Slight problem with your theory by the way, sonic lost world released 2 months before PS4 and the XBONE, and most of those owners are waiting for major or solid titles, not release window experiments, and a multiplatform release of lost world would have both weakened it and cost sega more because, A nintendo footed part of the bill, B 3 system development takes even more time and effort, and its easier to miss bugs, not to mention individual optimization would have resulted in a varied results C) with even more exposure, the reception of lost world would have been even MORE divided, and could have gone very bad

Given the fact that the "next" Sonic title is being developed by Big Red Button rather than Sonic Team, and that the Holidays will be coming up AND that Sonic Team have the technology of the PS4/XBone to work with... the next Sonic Team developed title could be biiiiiiiig. I'm excited for whatever may come next.

In the meantime, Sonic Boom hype. Woot woot.

I think until we hear any news on whether the Nintendo partnership is being extended, it's a bit difficult to speculate on any Sonic game for XBone/PS4. :(

I think it's a safe bet this partnership is ending with Boom. Sochi doesn't seem to have done well critically, Lost World flopped in sales AND reviews, and while it's looking like Boom will be good... it makes little sense to keep a true rebirth of the brand limited to one console.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the Xbox One/PS4 title either way. The moment I see "Sonic Team," I tell myself I'm playing the lottery, not a game. For a while it had seemed to me like they could make games that were widely-praised once again, but then Lost World happened and I've reverted to being skeptical of their work.

I just hope Boom games and All Star games will give them enough of a window in future years so they can put a lot of dev time in on each Sonic game. Three years or so.

I would just like to see the amount of love and effort that went into Unleashed again. Watching Clement's LP really makes me think about the aesthetics of it, the music, the little extras like Sonic and Chip in Chun Nan... the more i think about it, the more I think Lost World is a very odd direction to go in; in comparison it's over-simplistic. I hope that the games from now on aren't as plasticy-looking as Lost World, at least... the game play I can't really comment on.

SLW looks great... In motion. 1080P, 60FPS (IIRC) suits the gameplay and art style well. But yeah, its Unleashed's little nuances that make it my favourite Sonic game (and the music... graphics... gameplay.... story... werehog was fine...)

Yeah I think SLW looks nice too... but in comparison to how Unleashed's locations.... *shrug* I think there's a massive difference, personally.

What I like about the Boom sneaky peeks is how detailed the environments look. :3

I think it's because SLW was made by the Sonic Colours team. Obviously the next one is going to be made by the team who made Sonic Generations which is the same team who did Sonic Unleashed (half of it is anyway).

So this means that we'll finally get our epic Sonic Unleashed game once again, since it's not a short n' sweet Anniversary game like last time. Bigger story, better graphics and great level design. And NO annoying gimmicks! This is what I'm hoping for, but we probably won't see anything until early 2015.

Or we'll have another Sonic '06-esque crash and burn. Remember that shit was nicknamed "Sonic Next-Gen" *shudders*

Hopefully we get a Sonic game next year for the next gen consoles. I predict Sonic will be successful on the PS4/Xbox One and I will purchase Sonic games for the PS4 when I get one.

What I would like to see for the PS4/ Xb1 game is:

A good storyline that is worth paying attention with no potholes unlike the poor 06 plot, I'd like a storyline like in  SA1, SA2, Unleashed.

Great Gameplay with good controls with no frustrating loading times, glitches and bugs.

100 rings= 1 life.

Special stages like in Sonic 4, which were good.

Good voice acting Shadow and Amy, in particular both need better VAs or improvement from Kirk Thornton and Cindy Robinson

Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Shadow as playable characters.

Appearances from other characters such as the Chaotix, Silver, Blaze, Cream, Omega, Rouge etc.

Excellent level design.

You guys do realize there would be a wii-u version

Yep. Considering the Jazwares leak showed a game for ALL three consoles. I think Wii U owners ain't missing out on a future Sonic game for the whole gen this time.

MY question is, what could they do? Will the 2015 game (assuming it's by Sumo), make it for Wii U and then up-port it? For the likely 2016 game by Sonic Team, will they do the same? OR pull an Unleashed but better where the Gens team makes the actual game on PS4 and Xbox One, BUT this time the Lost World team does a AAA Wii U version, like if Colors was instead Gens Wii for instance. Rather than like Unleashed Wii where it was a B/C teir version by the Riders developers (O-TWO and Xeen, with daytime design work by Dimps).

That would be amazing to see actually.

How about a Sega Allstars adventure game crossover? Or a fighting game.

I hope Colors Tean and Gens Team fuse toether to make.. "Sonic Team!" If thats possible of course. I feel if they work together they'd be feelin good with themselves.

Also I hope the control of the Adventure series makes a return. I know I'm a broken record but I mean the CONTROL. not the genre whatever... with at the very least Tails and Knuckles playable. And a big adventure. Please. Most of us already iterated that we want a bigger adventure. Please Sonic Team D:

Since SLW showed how the Wii U version of future Sonic Games are, it kind of gives a slice on how the future of Sonic games on 8th-Gen consoles should be. For the PS4 and XB1, we don't know but a portion of how development is done can give us an example.

I'm not saying there IS going to be a Wii U version, but I imagine a truly multiplat game wouldn't be quite as hard to implement as it was last gen, yes there IS a power gap but it certainly isn't as big as last gen. I could see them developing it on the Wii U for like 720/900p at 30fps and then up-porting it to Xbone/PS4 with 1020p/I at 60fps. I mean I can't see a reason to remove an entire chunk of the fan base when it is fairly easy to cater to everyone unlike last gen when it would have been almost impossible to do the same.

Of course I'm most likely wrong and Wii U owners will be left without 75% of the main canon for this gen :P

Nah, I think Sonic team has come to the realization that smooth and solid gameplay and framerate is better than simply overloading detail with little control, I think they will find the right balance on the next title, making something that works smoothly on all of them

Yea. it could be but I'm guessing that SEGA and Sonic Team was not as ready for the PS4 and XB1 that they didn't know abut those Consoles before they ever hit the shelves or even becamed revaled. I should belive that they could be thinking about those consoles, looking on the specs on it, and testing the Hedgehog engine before they're ready to work on the next Sonic Game.

If it was only on the PS4 (or even that and the Xbone), it would add to my list of reasons to want a PS4.

Yes please! I know the Racing games are successful, but a fighting game or beat em up would be cool as hell. Maybe add a story mode too, though I think that would work best with the beat em up.

This is completely wrong.

They knew about them and were ready for them long before any public announcements.

This. All of this.

Unleashed had a sense of passion about it that unfortunately games since have failed to match. If Sonic Team would ever create a game with the same amount of care and love as Unleashed... it could very well be glorious.

If Nintendo hadn't gone for the three game exclusivity Lost World could have been on PS4/Xbone. Lost World started on a PC dev kit first I believe before being changed to Wii U
