Since I find myself making a lot of topics regarding GOG (mainly sales) figured a general GOG.com thread would be a good idea.

What is GOG?

 

GOG is an on-line store similar to Steam only is specialises in old and indi PC games. Every game sold on GOG is DRM free and often includes a few extras such as a digital copy of the original manual, avatars, artwork and sometimes soundtracks.

 

Why is it so good?

 

GOG offers a money back guarantee on all their games, if it won't work on your system, you get a full refund if their experts can't help you.

 

Also it offers classic and nostalgic games which in their original form may not work correctly in full working order and sometimes they include a few modern features such as improved resolution support and all official patches.

 

Any Offers?

 

GOG typically runs sales every few months with weekly offers and promotions. Sometimes sales are pretty insane such as 75-80% off games.

 

Sometimes the sales are interactive, such as letting the GOG community vote for how long a game remains in a sale for, what game gets a price cut. Makes things a little more interesting than your typical affair.

 

Can I link to steam

 

Nope, this is one of the downsides to GOG, their games do not include steam keys, however, for older games, with the exception of achievements, there are very few additional benefits a steam copy can have.

 

Any free stuff?

 

Just for joining GOG (yes it's free) you get a bunch of free games as a welcome. 

 

Quite often GOG will give away games for free, recently they gave away the original Dungeon Keeper and every single Fallout game.

 

Can I gift games?

 

Yes.

So why is it full of modern games?

 

SILENCE! No one must question the ways of money!

 

Yeah this is one of the main criticisms I have with it, they do still add older games... but modern indi titles are taking over.
